Washington — A federal judge in California ordered six federal agencies to reinstate probationary employees who were fired last month, finding that their terminations by the Office of Personnel Management were unlawful.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco handed down his order in a challenge brought by a group of unions against the Trump administration from the bench. He said that neither OPM nor its Acting Director Charles Ezell had the authority to direct the terminations across agencies.
The order extends relief to fired workers at the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Defense, Energy, Interior and Treasury.

Fine. Have them show up at 8 am tomorrow. Put them at a desk with no phone, no computer,
no cell phone permitted, and work until 5 pm. With an hour for lunch and 2 fifteen minute breaks.

I think the Trump administration handled this very badly. Big cuts should occur, but be based on poor performance or tasks no longer deemed necessary, not wholesale termination of newly hired employees.

Essentially the judge is now stating that no one can manage or be responsible for the employees who happen to be represented by a union working for a Federal agency.
What he also seems to not like is any reduction in a massively bloated government.
When the Schumer shutdown comes along, they will issue a list of essential and non-essential employees.
I'm betting most of the probationary employees didn't respond to the 5 question request of "what did you do last week".

Yes, well we're right in the heart of TDS country here. To quote the elderly 'judge' Alsup: "How could so much of the workforce be amputated, suddenly, overnight?"

All of those federal employees were laid off and guess what: The federal government is still operating and functioning just fine! While the media and Democrats like to report the "Chaos", one needs to look at where the chaos is coming from. That would be from the Democrat resistance to everything that Trump and the Republicans propose and the Democrat, union, NGO, and advocacy organization lawsuits against everything that Trump, Republicans, and DOGE tries to do.

This issue I.e. District judges vs the POTUS has to be resolved by the Supreme Court ASAP. I think there is a 5/4 majority for it.

"District Judges Gone Wild!"
Another Jackass video brought to you by a Supine Court that can't/won't rein in these little would-be emperors in black robes. Utterly ridiculous. Better to let DOGE go through the entire judicial system and start mass terminations there too. They seem to be unaware that the federal government is going to go bankrupt (literally) unless these massive changes are made.

Are we Israel now? Where judges run the country. We have an impotent executive who can be ordered about by any judge du jour. This has gotten out of hand, and the SCOTUS is just as bad as the teeny weenie judges.

Very carefully hidden in the middle of the article is a single line that says "critical employees" were exempted and retained.
If you're not critical why do you have a job? What exactly are those "not critical" employees doing and why are they slurping up my tax dollars?
Notice how all those people have been gone for weeks and nothing bad has happened? That's what happens when you get rid of "not critical" staff. Nothing. Nothing happens. They're dead weight.

I thought "probationary period" meant you could terminate an employee on probation within the probationary period. If it was determined that they were no longer needed, why would there be an objection to letting them go?

The President must spend the money according to Congressional direction, and Executive personnel are determined by the Courts and Congress. Please explain what the Chief Executive CAN DO -- according to the Democrats. I remember Joe Biden ignored the SC on loan forgiveness, the border, or anything else he chose.

So is THIS what the 5 years are going to be? Trump acts and then the judges say no? Why does 1 UNELECTED judge get to trump Trump's decisions? How are these judges QUALIFIED to reject EVERY SINGLE THING?

Unelected federal judges have decided that the primary role of government is to provide employment opportunities to anyone that wants a job. Government is the employer that is funded directly by taxpayers.

So, what's the point of being the president if judges have veto authority over literally every executive action?
Congress could stop this. But they wont.

All the terminated federal employees were hired during the last year or so of the highly partisan Biden Administration, and you can safely bet that the prime qualification for hiring most of them is that they fit within the categories covered by the leftist and progressive Democrat DEI agenda and Democrat identity politics. Clearly it is up to the US Supreme Court to stop all the Democrat nominated federal district judges from trying to stop the elected Republican President of the USA from effectively managing the federal executive agencies.

The employees were HIRED, not APPOINTED. They fall under civil service rules. They cannot just be fired en mass. One way is by a RIF, where structured layoffs ensue. Another is by moving the agency to a location that few employees would want to move to, on their own dime. The Govt owns many buildings that are suitable for this escape from D>C>.

24, they were all in their probationary period. They can all be fired in bulk for any or no reason at all. Just like that.
The civil service rules do not over ride the power of the United States of America as granted by the United States constitution.
