Donald Trump is being lobbied to make Puerto Rico an independent nation and save American taxpayers $617.8 billion, DailyMail.com has learned.
At least two congressional offices are in possession of a seven-page draft 'executive order' on how the U.S. can help the island territory transition to independence.
One individual familiar with the document's origins said at least two members of Congress have a copy of the draft, which DailyMail.com has obtained and reviewed.
A source familiar with the document's existence disclosed that it is also in the possession of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) and potentially

Successive generations of political "leaders" in PR have run the place into the ground economically. Fortunately for the populace, they all had American citizenship and could catch a *domestic* flight from San Juan to anywhere on the mainland and start new lives. Their less fortunate cousins in other Caribbean locales didn't have such an option. If this gets any traction, watch for a burst of out-migration from the island to the mainland before it happens...

What do we get in return for those $617 billion dollars? I know Sun Oil had a small refinery on the southern part of the island decades ago. I sailed there several times. Nothing was there except sugar cane and coconuts, and every building had corrugated roofing, and some didn't even have doors. Dolly's, a local watering hole, had no doors and had chickens running in and out of the place. Plus, the bar wasn't really a bar it was a piece of plywood. Now, it appears by Google Earth that the area has grown quite a bit since I was there.

I read there was a saving, then later that the US would be giving them $36 billion a year for 20 years. If there is a disaster there, the US will still be providing aid. I think we are being hoodwinked on this deal.

Yes. PR as a state would be a SUPER disaster, as a territory it is a moderate disaster. As an independent country, they can be whatever kind of disaster they want, and I will not care because I won't have to PAY FOR IT.

Very corrupt government in Puerto RIco. If this happens it will devolve into another Haiti. Plus, how will all the Dominicans get in the USA as they pose as Puerto RIcans.

News making ploy....send fake EO letters out, then give a copy to the "News Media", done by far left "Independence Activists" associated with the Dems. Other Dems are promoting "Statehood" because it would give them a seat in the House, and Two Senators. Keep in mind PR elected a Repub governor in Nov, casting out the former Dem, and the "Independence" party came in second place, after forming a far left coalition to unify three parties votes, even going so far as to nominate "Fake" candidates then having them drop out, because each party was required by Law to nominate someone seperately

PR currently circles the drain even though it is a territory of the USA. If we cut it loose, communism, authoritarianism and a brand new dictatorship will emerge and make the island go down the drain even faster. Piracy and drug smuggling will become the main industries as tourism will be "cancelled" by the worldwide left. Eventually the USA will have to subdue it militarily to save the innocents who live on the island and are currently trying their level best to live their best lives. It will be very expensive to rescue PR lare if we cut it loose now.

You don't "transition to independence" after sucking on Uncle Sam's wallet for 75 years and being satisfied with a population with 50% employment. I spent a year and a half down there before they asked the US Navy to leave then cried about the lost income from the bases. Puerto Rico would implode immediately.

As I understand it, they get access to all our entitlements, yet pay no Federal taxes. They can't do anything without outside help. Better make it well understood that they will be invaded and put under Martial Law should they ever strike up a deal with China. Better make the same threat to Cuba, Venezuela, and the other sh/*thole countries to our south.
