The Department of Veterans Affairs is planning an “aggressive” reorganization that includes cutting 80,000 jobs from the sprawling agency that provides healthcare for retired military members, according to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press.
The VA’s chief of staff, Christopher Syrek, told top level officials at the agency that it had an objective to cut enough employees to return to 2019 staffing levels of just under 400,000.
That would require terminating tens of thousands of employees after the VA expanded during the Biden administration, as well as to cover veterans impacted by burn pits under the 2022 PACT Act.
The memo instructs top-level staff to prepare for an agency-wide reorganization

IF a Veterans Claim sits in a VA hole for over 3 months, they should be automatically APPROVED, and cannot be REVERSED!

I have often wondered why 80 years after the end of World War 2 why the VA doesn’t utilize existing private hospitals. Seems a duplication of services where some veterans could get care closer to home.

#2, they do use existing hospitals. For instance, they use Deborah Heart and Lung Center just outside Fort Dix.

This will encourage the rest of them to do their jobs and treat our vets better.

Have a disabled Vet in the family, seems the Biden administration was sending a lot of illegals to the VA for service who prioritized them over disabled vets - wait time for vets was extremely long.

There's probably at least that many alone in procurement. Many, many moons ago I was in medical sales and covered a couple VA hospitals. The number of people who had to sign off on a po was unbelievable.

I've been waiting for two months for an appointment at the VA. Its proof that my complaint is frivolous because I'm not dead yet.

How are there over 400k people working for any government agency in America? I've read that there are some 2-3 million government workers and contractors. That number has to be higher based on the small cuts (80k/+400k) discussed here.

That would mean more money to go directly to Vets, so yes please.

My best friend in high school was having a meltdown on facebook because I posted a meme about the doge refund checks. She’s a VA nurse and said she can’t sleep at night because she’s scared she will lose her job.
I told her, as a nurse, she would have no trouble finding a new one AND if she’s going her job well she’s not going to get fired. I have little sympathy for federal workers right now.

I remember in 2017 when President Trump fired inept VA workers and the VA did just fine...so bring it on...and let veterans go to private hospitals if they need to...on a personal note:...my darling husband waited for 2 hours at a VA facility to be seen...he was having difficulty breathing...so I fired the help...and took my hubby to a private hospital...which President Trump had approved...but ole Joe and his baloney brigade undid all President Trump's help for the veterans....

What do they have, one employee per retired vet? The one phone call I ever made to the VA, I spoke to a helpful person who was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I know that's not usually the case with the typical government worker.

After their childish and immature performance on Tuesday night during the President's speech, I'd actually start with cutting 215 elected dims from both the US Senate and US House and strip them of their benefits. Except for the Honorable Congresswoman Laura Gillan (D) from Long Island who stood up - alone - with 214 dim zombies surrounding here to honor and applaud 13-year-old DJ Daniel.

#2. My husband is in the VA system (Vietnam). During Trump's first term, he authorized the VA to use outside sources.
