As Canada and Mexico braced for 25% tariffs on Tuesday, and China for another 10%, Honda became one of the first companies to cave – scrapping plans to produce its new Civic in Mexico in favor of Indiana, according to a report.
The Japanese auto giant had initially planned to manufacture the next-generation Civic in Guanajuato, Mexico, starting in November 2027, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Now, Honda plans to manufacture the new Civic in Indiana, starting in May 2028 — churning out around 210,000 vehicles each year, a source told the outlet.

More winning. Jobs flowing BACK across the border under Trump. NAFTA was always a screw job for Americans. As Ross Perot said "That giant sucking sound you hear is all your jobs moving south of the border."
Well, now some are flowing back.

But CNN told me that tariffs don't work.

One day and magic is happening. Mexico's president will come crawling to Washington with sombrero in hand. Trudeau doesn't get it yet.

Toyota build some of their autos in Kentucky. I hope that this tariff will result in the bringing back of more jobs to the USA. Lost jobs lead to lost community.

#4 is correct. My Toyota Van was made in Kentucky and, if I remember correctly, my Camry was built in Tennessee. The VIN (vehicle ID number) will tell you where your vehicle was manufactured. These are just jobs coming back where they belong. The other benefit is the additional jobs, restaurants, houses, rental units and all the businesses supported in the area.

This is what tariffs are supposed to do. It just takes time. The media only reports on the immediate impact of tariffs. Not the results.

Now perhaps someone can persuade Nabisco to move its Oreo production BACK to Chicago and rehire the 600 people it layed off in 2016 when they moved their Oreo production to Mexico. Hey, if you can build a new production line in Mexico, you can build one in Chicago. 600 production jobs at about $25 per hour, times 600 jobs, is $30 million in cash, every year, year in year out, that Nabisco (Mondelez) took out of the Chicago economy when it moved to Mexico for their cheaper labor. Cheap Oreos that your out-of-work neighbor can't afford to buy. TARIFF THEM!!!

Five years ago when I bought a Honda CR-V, my daughter who had a Buick Encore, made the comment that that I had a foreign car and she had an American one. I informed her that her car was built in China and mine was built in Marysville, OH.

Re haughty pres Scheinbaum, who announed her plan to protect the artels from an Ameridan military "invasion", word out of Mexico is that cartel leaders are hunkering down, fearing for themselves and their families lest America actually comes for them. Big sticks do work when wielded by aomeone like Trump who is known to mean business.

Good news!
'Building the cars' is the headline, and the plant employs people, but the plant ASSEMBLES the cars and paints them. Consider how many PARTS go into that ASSEMBLY, and every one of those PARTS is manufactured.... somewhere. Every PART manufacturer in turn generates WEALTH in their community; they employ people, who then buy all the stuff that their family needs- food, clothes, household items, cars, toys, on and on. The PARTS in turn, are made from MATERIALS- metals, plastics, wire, tires, batteries, electronics.... the list goes on and on...... and it ALL ADDS UP!

There is a HUGE Kia plant near LaGrange, GA, the building is about 2 miles long, you can see it on I-85, heading towards Montgomery, AL.
We need more industries to come back to our Country, especially the Pharmaceutical ones. As it is now, China makes most all drugs, medical supplies, masks, gloves, etc used in our Country.

Indiana probably has enough Mexican nationals in-state to fill the anticipated jobs with illegals. By May 2028, we might have a sympathetic democrat back in the WH, eager to give them permanent status, unless Trump works with Congress to pass legislation into law prohibiting such a move.
