A bombshell report has exposed that more than $151 million meant to feed soldiers at 11 of the Army’s largest bases was repurposed for undisclosed uses.
This revelation, first reported by Steve Beynon of Military.com, comes as junior enlisted soldiers struggle to access nutritious food on base, with some being forced to survive on substandard meals.
The funds in question are deducted directly from service members’ Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS), a monthly $460 allotment meant to cover food costs for soldiers living in barracks.

This story makes me sad and mad. The fact that the money is missing seems like more of the corruption the DOGE group is discovering. The refusal of those in charge to reveal where the money went is maddening. But to hear that the missing money is coming out of the pockets of our soldiers is beyond disgraceful. Time for some unrelenting investigations. Take no prisoners.

Enlisted salaries are still not that high. Find out if the repurposed funds went to DEI, abortions, and trans surgeries.

So when did this happen? Let me guess, under the Biden administration? Democrats it’s what they do to the military. They always abuse the military, especially the junior enlisted.

That one always did rattle me. For those of us on separate rats, when we would deploy they would charge us money for MREs. The cost varied depending on what time it was, even though it was the same MRE. I would buy a duffel bag full at breakfast and give them to my guys so they could have them throughout the day and wouldn't have to pay lunch and dinner prices.
The one that irritated me most though was the base gas station prices. They raised them to match off base prices because they said it was unfair competition. Ok, but off base you pay federal and state tax, which is included in the price. ON base there are no taxes. Where is that roughly 35 cents a gallon going, since it isn't going to taxes? I asked an AAFES manager once and he didnt want to talk about it. Made some vague reference to going to base recreational activities, which they also charged us for.

The Army can mess with you in many ways but there were two things they never touched: your food and your pay. There's a systemic problem in that report.

Corruption on applying $$$ to feed soldiers? Tell me it aint so? It's so! Whose in charge of BAS at Army bases? The DFAS (Defense Finance and Accounting Service) is responsible. It is illegal to use BAS $$$ for food for other reasons. So who at DFAS on the Army bases are corrupt? DOGE has not audited DFAS as of the timing of this article. It appears that DFAS should be on DOGE's radar.

When I was in Basic Training, the meals served were very a very small amount of food and it was horrible quality. One morning a Major was standing in at the head of the chow line watching the food being doled out. He would tell the line server to put more on the plate. They ran out of food about half way through the mess service. We all heard that the result of this was an investigation that found that the mess sergeant was selling frozen boxes of meats to a restaurant in town. After the new mess crew was brought in, the food was pretty good and plentiful. Basic Allowance for Subsistance (BAQ) should be paid to the soldiers and a per meal price should be determined. The soldiers would then pay for the meals they ate in the mess facility and be able to eat off post and pay for it if they want and were able to leave post.

You can bet there's corruption going on and it won't be the first time. Remember the scandal involving slot machines in troop clubs in Vietnam and in Europe, or the purchasing criminal activity in post exchanges. Look behind the curtain and I'll bet you'll find dirty contractors, dirty supervisors and some senior people.

NO WAY should our military personnel have to pay for food or shelter.
They should be getting the best food ever, to build up muscle and strength, needed to prepare to fight our enemies.
These Generals have enough weight on themselves, do they eat the toast and lima beans, too? Not.
Obedience really screwed our military royally.

Personally, I hope some or all of the money 'spent elsewhere' was stolen, and can be prove. I'm sure the military has enough ammo to put those involved up against a wall.

Re #14. I had a similar experience in basic. Back then KP was still a thing but they changed the name to something that escapes me. I was pulling a 12 hour shift scrubbing everything in sight and a couple other detail guys came in with concerned looks and saying "what the hell...?" Turns out the NCOIC of the chow hall had these airmen loading 50 lb bags of sugar into his personal car. We ratted him out to out TI when we got back to the barracks. That particular NCO was never seen again.

This is not a scandal. The food is already paid for by the ARMY. NCOs above a certain rank, warrant and commissioned officers have paid a nominal amount toward their meals for at least the last 50 years. The money they pay, or more likely that is deducted from their LES goes back to the ARMY that already paid for the food.

When I was in the ARMY--mid '60's--officers and NCOs on separate rations paid a nominal amount if they ate in the mess hall. Everyone else had their meals furnished as part of their basic support of housing, medical care, basic issue of uniforms and other clothing, etc. After you had been in 6 months or so pay went up to include a clothing allowance which each soldier was responsible for managing. At every meal at least one of the company officers ate mess hall food with the troops, keeping the cooks honest. While not always "pretty-fied", meals were filling and nutritious. My mother was a great cook. Army food often rivaled her work. Other than the mess hall's baked chicken--too many chicken halves in too large a baking pan to be cooked well done--I found the food to be excellent. Other than one or two items, even the C-rations were palatable enough given what they were. Today's MREs sound like gourmet fare.

Not exactly related but when my husband was in Vietnam, they got c-rats left over from WWII. I bet there are still cans of lima beans in the jungle where they were thrown out.
Plus, my dad was on board ship during WWII and couldn't get supplies. They had Spam three meals a day for 6 weeks. He never ate Spam again in his life.

This is the perfect example that should be used in the 2026 campaigns against the Democrats.
They pushed DEI and Pronouns at the expense of our military. They took millions for those type of programs BEFORE taking care of the basic needs of the soldiers.
It's that plain and simple.
No money should have been allocated for anything until the soldiers were fed.

How in the hell does the Army get away with refusing to divulge where this money went? Don’t we have a fresh new Republican DOD Secretary? The head of the Army should be standing in Hegseth’s office right now explaining this.

I am saddened to learn, more and more every day, what a big part amorality plays in our American culture. It is everywhere. I am glad that President Trump and Elon Musk created DOGE. A small group of young people see something wrong and say "That's not right." - with the positive outcome that our country saves money. So important because our country is drowning in debt. Our national debt is Thirty Six Trillion last count (I read a post on Lucianne today that told me - A Trillon is 1000 Billion - Hardly small change.)
Sad how many people are clamoring for DOGE to stop doing what they are doing. Shows how immoral many of our citizens can be. Of course, we know people who never listen to anything other than the legacy media - whose legacy will always be lies - "tell them that USAID is on the up and up, and so on." Then their words are reinforced by the people in Congress who don't ever want to get off the gravy train. And so there is no wrong or right - there is just amorality.

From what we have learned so far in the last month it’s pretty clear the Biden and the leftist and progressive Democrats have been sending a huge amount in the billions of taxpayers dollars to leftist and progressive Democrat aligned non-governmental organizations (NGOS) both inside the USA and abroad to carryout the extreme leftist and progressive Democrat political agenda. Who is to say at this point what percentage of that taxpayers money based upon past Biden family corrupt activities has been corruptly “kicked back” with a wink and a nod to Democrat activists, partisan political organizations, and politicians?

A crew of maintenance people, myself included, came off of the flight line and made it to the chow hall just before closing. We were told that dinner, fried chicken, had run out and we got sandwiches. A few minutes later, when the line shut down, the Japanese cooks and helpers all came out to eat in front of us and they all had fried chicken on their plates.

Wow, this is sad. I ate GREAT when I was in the Army, and never paid a cent, unless I went to the "Pizza Pub" on base or went some place in town. Oh, when I was in the Rangers, we would occasionally miss a meal when on a long patrol, but never more than a day or so. If we got hungry, a helicopter or plane would parachute a pallet of C- rations in to us. Back then, even the Perfumed Prince of the Pentagon understood "an army travels on its stomach", and they made sure we ate well.
