Former Special Counsel Jack Smith received $140,000 in pro bono legal services from high-profile DC firm Covington and Burling last month, shortly before he resigned from the Justice Department.
The legal services were labeled as a ‘gift’ on Jack Smith’s financial disclosure obtained by Politico.
The reason for the legal services was not immediately clear. However, it was previously reported that Jack Smith’s prosecutors sought legal counsel from high-powered DC law firms as Trump’s new DOJ was set to take over.
It was previously reported that Jack Smith’s investigators were fielding calls with lawyers in DC.

So Jack gets paid by a law firm because he sought their legal counsel?
"Rolling Stone also reported that Jack Smith’s prosecutors are afraid they will go bankrupt and are inquiring about taking steps to protect their family’s assets."
They spent over $50 million of our tax dollars going after President Trump. The nerve.

OK, so what are the taxes on such a "gift"?

Better make sure that crooked SOB pays taxes on that $140,000. 140,000 X 35% = $49,000.

Now Jack Smith's rabid wolf pack prosecutors are worried that they might be bankrupt if Trump went after them. Isn't that exactly what they did to, or tried to do, in order to get a guilty plea from everyone they went after during the Trump years? No matter how small or petty the charge the defendants were hounded relentlessly until many had no choice but to plead guilty to something just to get Smith's feral prosecutors to stop destroying them and their family. These prosecutors deserve everything that Trump may send their way.

The "gift" was legal services. The taxes are on the "gifter," not the recipient.

Nothing this idiot does surprises me....I'm sure there is more on his accounts to compensate for the time and taxpayer's money he spent chasing his tail...WE paid for the court time...with 10% going to the big guys....and I'm sure there are more than one Jack taking in the dough....10% of 50 million is a big number to the lawyers....how did they bill America after each session....it was very lucrative and bought some nice perks...

Former Special Counsel Jack Smith can use this little stipend to fund his upcoming tour in the road company "Mephistopheles: Fauci or Faustus."

Smith seeks legal advice, and the law firm pays him? For everyone else, the money flows the opposite way. As for "gift", hasn't Trump been persecuted for years for labeling payments to his attorney for Stormy Daniels "legal services"? Does everybody on the federal payroll receive both their salary ---- and compensation for work they are doing, while already on the government payroll --- double pay, like Fauci? For taxability of gifts, you can give someone $19,000 in 2025 without the recipient paying taxes on it. The $140,000, less $19,000, is taxable, and better appear on Smith's tax return --- and he had better get a 1099 from the law firm that paid it. Also, labeling something a "gift" does not make it a gift, which it does not appear here.

Geez people. The gift was the value of the 'pro bono' legal services that benefited Jack Smith in his questions about legal counsel. I seriously doubt Jackie Boy received a check.

Smith didn't receive any money and he doesn't owe any taxes. If the services are a taxable gift, the law firm owes the tax. It's called gift tax.

In Hack Jack Smith's world this smells like BRIBERY. Time to prosecute his sorry Azz for that and any other crime we can dream up or twist the law to fit. We wouldn't want to give him special treatment, he'd sue us for that!
