Rep. Jan Schakowsky Suggests Women Might
Not Pursue Jobs in Manufacturing Because
“Man” is in the Name (Video)

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) pushed a bizarre explanation for why women might not pursue jobs in manufacturing. Schakowsky made her remarks on Wednesday during a Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade subcommittee hearing entitled “AI in Manufacturing: Securing American Leadership in Manufacturing and the Next Generation of Technologies.” Schakowsky suggested that perhaps the reason fewer women choose a career in manufacturing is that the term has the word “man” in it. Schakowsky stated, “Yesterday, I met with a manufacturing company, but they also are engaged in getting young people more engaged in manufacturing. I asked them, ‘How many of those students that are signing up and want to do this, how many are women?'”

Comments:

What a moron!! Human also has the word "man" in it! How many women have left the human race because of it???!!!

#6 How about "female?" Nope, not that one either. How about "German females?" Oh, dear. Guess that ends sentences like, "Our German women guests all got manicures." So much for manual labor, too. And "manifest destiny?" OMG. Well, let's just cut to the chase. The human race needs to be the "hu-person race." Yeh, that's the ticket. And then "humanity" can be replaced by "all living people." Oh, man, I'm glad I solved the problem.

I am now 71 and retired. But I worked in manufacturing for 15 years - was hired as a plant engineer because I was a qualified woman. It was during the time when manufacturing was trying (having...) to increase female quotas in management. But I did my job (and did it well) until shoe manufacturing was sent overseas. Then I was able to get a job at an engineering firm where I worked until my retirement. Although I did have some problems in the manufacturing world it was mostly because some men back in the day thought I must have "slept" my way into the job. I did not - I held my head high, did the work, rejected the men who thought I was easy, and told them I was a Christian and thought they were too. That usually had them leaving me alone.

The healthcare and social assistance sector is projected to add the largest number of jobs (14,231) followed by professional, scientific, and technical services (4,644). Manufacturing is expected to have the greatest job loss (-6,720). Maybe if there were manufacturing jobs in her district, women would be interested.

Personufacturing sounds like baby making. Womanufacturing sounds like a sleazy doctor doing a vaginoplasty on a man. How about we just use manufacturing to mean "the process of making wares by hand or by machinery especially when carried on systematically with division of labor?" By the way, Jan, Webster agrees.

OP: The "man" in manufacturing is from to the Latin "manus" meaning "hand", as in using them to make things. Is it the idea of hands or the idea of working that's scaring them? And in a related language, Spanish "mano a mano" also does not refer to "man."

When our kids were growing up, my husband and I practiced something called "reality discipline." The term was coined by psychologist Kevin Leman, who posited that children need to experience the "natural consequences" of their behavior. (Snip) Leman's advice came to mind as I watched Elon Musk and the DOGE boys reveal the tsunami of government pork that has sent our federal deficit into a death spiral. All but the most partisan left-wing Americans are asking, "Why is the government spending money on this crap?" One thing no one's talking about, but perhaps we should, is how much we're spending on AIDS/HIV programs.

Democrats, those stalwart champions of democracy who tried to keep Donald Trump off the ballot, have an endlessly malleable understanding of whose view prevails whenever disputes arise between any combination of Congress, the courts, the president and the states. It’s almost as if they decide based not on any fixed principle, but on whose side they take. When Joe Biden was president, he openly defied Supreme Court rulings — and bragged about doing so. Despite the court repeatedly telling him he had no authority to forgive student loans, he kept doing it. “The Supreme Court blocked it,” he said, “but that didn’t stop me.” No complaints from the left.

[Disclaimer: this article is from Politico, so it is quite possibly funded by funds from some government; see Let's Untangle the Inappropriate Financial Deals Between the Federal Gov't., Politico, and Other Outlets – RedState.] Top New York City officials are hitting back against the seizure of $80 million in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, with City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander blasting the revocation as “illegal.”

Longtime vaccine critic Robert F. Kennedy is now the nation’s top health official, after the Senate Thursday voted almost entirely on party lines to confirm him atop a department of nearly 100,000 employees that run 13 agencies. The 52-48 confirmation vote brings to a close a contentious three-month confirmation fight that served as a significant test of the Republican Party’s loyalty to President Trump. Only Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) cast a GOP vote against Kennedy’s confirmation, after previously bucking his party on Trump’s defense secretary and national intelligence director.

What the hell is this? I get why Ohio Democrats are doing this, trying to be cute with the whole ‘regulate our bodies’ narrative that no one cared about in 2024. Abortion and female voters did not save Democrats, who obsess over the weirdest issues that will keep this party in the political wilderness. (Snip) A bill proposed to the Ohio statehouse will make male ejaculation without intent to have a baby, a fineable offense of up to $10,000. The bill has been proposed by State Representatives Anita Somani and Tristan Rader, who wrote it to point out what they see as the absurdity of rules that control women's bodies

Current and former employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) sued Elon Musk and his cost-cutting operation, levying the novel argument that the world’s richest man should have been confirmed by the Senate before wielding such enormous power. The Trump administration, Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have moved in recent weeks to stanch the flow of foreign aid, dismantle the agency responsible for administering it and dismiss thousands of people working for the agency at home and abroad.

We’ve been reading so much about all the rampant waste in the federal government, from USAID to the Education Department to FEMA, that Elon Musk and DOGE continue to uncover at a staggering pace. But sometimes you wonder, who are the beneficiaries of all this fraud and waste—where’s the money going? I mean, besides to terrorists, social justice warriors and the like. Your questions may soon be answered. Grab the popcorn and fluff the couch pillows because Donald Trump told reporters at a briefing in the Oval Office Wednesday afternoon that he plans to name names at a press conference scheduled for Thursday. Responding to a reporter's question, he charged:
