$50 to $100 billion a year, that is how much has already been identified by the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency through a review of Treasury payments as likely fraud. This amount is nothing more than identifying how much is paid monthly to recipients who don’t have a Social Security number or other government identification attached to their files.[Snip] It is surprising that the various systems that are in place to ostensibly prevent fraud failed so spectacularly, and it is fair to wonder if some of those in charge of them were part of the steal?

Congress approves actions, but does not implement them, leaving that task to others. In this way, they are never held accountable. I think Elon should audit Congress next, then offer 535 buyouts by 5 pm the same day.

And they wonder why SS is in danger of going broke. Mismanagement and fraud!
Get rid of both and save SS for generations to come. Thank you Elon for exposeing all the ineptness and grift and fraud in all these programs. Now something needs to be done about it, without help from the Dems apparently as they are content with it and probably even the recipient of it.

It's not surprising. No one in DC keeps track of the $$$ spent or to whom the money is disbursed. It's not their money, so they don't care.

Sounds to me that the money is going to none U.S. citizens. In other words, those that did not pay into the system and could be here illegally.

All these Inspector Generals have been doing what exactly all these years? Issue a bunch of reports that no one reads. Granted, they have little authority other than to write reports, but still. Hello Congress?

Why didnt they report this? Cause that is just part of their slush fund. I fully believe that dim-0s have stolen the US treasury into the poor house, with help from rinos.

With an assumption that almost all government benefits are direct deposited, and with a minimum of $50 billion in fraud each year, we are obviously talking about millions of bank accounts. And what about accounts that are linked to fake social security numbers and to dead people?

How can they send a SS check to someone without a SS number? That's crazy.

SSA is the custodian of death stats via the states but will not share info with other govt depts. This is one reason. And, just to correct one myth, SS is not in danger of going bust. It is something like 70% funded but is a convenient red rag to wave come election time to scare the pensioner crowd. The boomer bulge is over and as boomers die out, it self-corrects. CMS is another story. It's the real nasty danger at about 17% funded and the annual overspend now equals the annual debt.

Well what do you know...I finally have an answer...many years ago...after my darling husband passed...I went to the social security office to straighten his file...it turned out he was listed with TWO SS numbers...I quickly corrected the error and have been receiving my husband's hard earned SS payments...thank you my darling hubby....he always took care of me...and still does...I feel sorry for women who never have a sturdy male hand guiding their path.....as God said..."a woman stands under her husband's arm" for protection.....

Let's not lose focus here... It's more that "Dem this" and "Dem that"... It's the _UNIPARTY_ with Repubs grifting right along.
Swamp dwellers all (except for those few whose names represent a who's who of "Nazis", Racists, Misogynists, etc.)
Whatever progress in cleaning up politics might be possible, it will all come to nothing if voters fail to clean house in the 2026 Primaries.

This is likely due to the fact that Congress stopped using General Order all the way back in 2007-2008 fiscal year. Harry Reid decided to use the Continuing Resolution option to avoid having his Democrat Senators from making difficult spending choices.
Each year they push the deadline to pass the budget to the last minute, thus, creating an "emergency" so then they're able to use that CR process.
The CR simply takes whatever they were spending in the last budget, and add to it a certain percentage for Cost of Living, etc...
This is why they are still spending the $1 trillion each year from Obama's famous "shovel ready" jobs program he pushed in the first year of his first term. Essentially adding $16 trillion to the national debt from that one item alone.
Congress stopped having control of the purse under this process but it's also an abuse of the process since they have all the time they need to pass the individual spending bills but have chosen not to.
Republicans tried to return to General Order a few years ago but it bogged down and the Democrats used it
against Republicans which cost them the House Majority.

Let me take a stab at it; maybe it was because most of the recipients WERE Congress critters?

The Government Accounting Office, responsible for auditing our books, is part of the Legislative Branch and therefore Congress is fiscally responsible for any errors or malfeasance and should be taken to tasks for the $50B that has been thrown away. They own this and all of the fiscal crimes that have been committed. They are quick to blame others but when it comes to their doing any actual work the fingers point in other directions.

Tell us again how SS will run out of money in 2032, or whatever year they're pulling out of their backside today, or how people will have to work until they're 70, (after all, people are working longer than ever, right? That's b/c they have to, to make ends meet), or recipients will have to accept less of a payout while working longer. We are currently hearing stories of people who are 150 years old receiving monthly checks, dead people getting paid, drug addicts who can't function are getting paid by SS, non-citizens receiving SS for what - existing? Seems our National Treasury is a free for all to whomever can get their hands on our loot.
