A handful of House Democrats were barred from entering the Department of Education’s DC headquarters Friday, after President Trump talked up plans to bypass Congress and unilaterally close the agency down, returning its power to the states.
Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) and 95 of his fellow partisans had demanded an “urgent meeting” Thursday with acting secretary Denise Carter before taking matters into their own hands Friday — only to be halted by security who “locked” the building doors, a congressional aide told The Post.
Video footage shows an officer informing the lawmakers that their meeting request had not been “accepted”

Mark Takano
"A member of the Democratic Party, Takano became the first gay person of Asian descent in Congress upon taking office"

Mark (bend-over)Tacano-----------------California . Will no one rid of us of these turbulent California egotists?
And 95 of these Congressional leftists including Mad Maxine who has already threatened violence marched off to the offices of the Education Department to threaten the Acting Secretary. Told they have no business purpose there , and that was truth---this trip was only a photo-op. Surprised they didn't bring along Pelousy on her walker.
They will all get their chance to drag her through the confirmation process, why bother to go to the building.

I love the picture of them milling around outside and acting outraged and being denied admittance.

The Department of Education was created by Senate Bill 210, the Department of Education Organization Act, and was signed into public law (96-88) by Jimmy Carter in October, 1979. Given the Constitution's Article 2, Sec 3, "Take Care clause," (...he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States." It has long been accepted that presidents can create, reorganize or abolish any agency of the federal government that was created by various Article 2 executive authority actions; however, abolishing an executive office created by Congress, needs Congressional approval, which should not be a heavy lift, given current congressional majorities. The president could likely get sufficient votes in short order. In 2002, the Department of Education Organization Act was amended, at the urging of Bush 43, who also signed the resulting No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, into public law 107-110 in January, 2002. That legislation was repealed and replaced by the Every Student Succeeds Act, signed into public law (114-95) by (guess who?) Obama in 2015. The original Department of Education Reorganization Act was generally against most conservative thought that ran towards leaving education to the various states. If Trump proceeds unilaterally, he may be opening himself up to impeachment, should the current majorities in Congress shift at the midterms in 2026. The democrats are a bit short on ammo at this time and nothing good can be gained by giving them some re-supply early in his second term. Bringing Congress into the Education Department abolishment debate, would also serve the purpose of spotlighting the GOP senators and representatives who are begging to be vigorously primaried in the lead up to the midterms.

Both DOEs (Education and Energy) are overdue for the ax, for total elimination. They're wastes of taxpayer money that do not improve either learning or the environment. How many billions can be saved by sending all of these bureaucrats back to the private sector? Education should be state controlled--not federally controlled--and the states should compete to determine which ones do the best job educating their students. Excellence should be the goal. That pretty much eliminates the lead-butted, left wing teachers' unions, doesn't it? Break Randi Weingarten's heart. Make HER work from home.

James Brown's wig had the nerve to say about the security guard, "We pay his salary; he works for us." Said in one of the ugliest voices ever. She sounds like poop.

Agree with #5. Education should be left up to the states. The feds can give block grants based on population, but without any strings attached. The states can then tailor the education to individual needs. It's been a long time since schools in the South were segregated (65 years ago) which was part of the Federal monolith rightfully stepping in but that's ancient history. At least we can vote our state reps and school boards out if they are not responsive to the needs of our communities. A look at the declining education in our public schools and anyone can see that changes need to be done.
