FAA embroiled in lawsuit alleging it turned
away 1,000 applicants based on race —
that contributed to staffing woes

The Federal Aviation Administration was hit with a class action lawsuit last year alleging it had denied 1,000 would-be air traffic controllers jobs because of diversity hiring targets — as it was revealed staffing levels were “not normal” at the time of this week’s deadly midair collision. Complaints about the FAA’s hiring policies resurfaced after the American Airlines passenger plane and a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, killing 67 people in the country’s deadliest aviation disaster in almost a quarter century. Details of the litigation reemerged, too, as Andrew Brigida — the lead plaintiff in the suit — suggested the federal aviation agency’s obsession with diversity hiring

Comments:

Remember when Social Security was the 'Third Rail' of politics? Now it's diversity hiring.

Well, well well... FTA: The crux of the lawsuit is that the FAA, under the Obama administration, dropped a skill-based system for hiring controllers and replaced it with a “biographical assessment” in an alleged bid to boost the number of minority job applicants.

I recall reports of this happening at the time. Part of what's missing from the discussion of the possible effect of DEI on this incident is NOT the potential of an unqualified person(s) being in the tower; rather, it is that many applicants who were possibly very qualified (at least a THOUSAND according to this one suit) were not hired. The positions sat VACANT, endangering passengers. More needs to be said about that.

Let’s face facts. DEI was essentially the EEO quotas dressed up to look like something new. When you turn away 1,000 qualified applicants and cannot find enough applicants even meeting lower standards, it is a recipe for disaster. The DEI program in this case should be named DIE.

Rep. AOC's comments were part of a 90-minute-long conversation with fans on Instagram. What really launched New York's most prominent socialist into a flurry of dizzying projection are Musk's ongoing efforts to clean up an out-of-control bureaucracy through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team. Two employees of the authority that manages Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were arrested over their alleged involvement in leaking surveillance footage of last week’s deadly midair aircraft collision to CNN. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) staffers are accused of making an unauthorized copy of records and are facing charges of computer trespass, the agency said Monday. The legal trouble is tied to the chilling video obtained by CNN last week that offered a horrifying new vantage point in the crash over the Potomac River, ABC News reported. The Wednesday night collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines passenger jet killed all 67 people on both aircraft.

Interim D.C. U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. has made a bold move, dismissing about 30 federal prosecutors involved in the Capitol riot cases. This decision, announced on Friday, signals a significant housecleaning of the top prosecutor's office in Washington, D.C., as Martin gears up to purge partisans who weaponized the Justice Department against Joe Biden’s political enemies, including Trump, pro-life activists, and others. But he’s also taken another bold step, effectively launching an investigation into Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer over comments he made back in March 2020 during a #MyRightMyDecision rally outside the Supreme Court. During the rally, Schumer blatantly threatened Trump-appointed Supreme Court Justices
