On January 29th, 2025, the United States suffered its first hull loss of a passenger airliner since the Colgan crash of 2009. Tragically, 67 people appear to have perished after a mid-air collision between a CRJ-700 regional jet operated by PSA (contracted by American Airlines) and a military UH-60 Blackhawk. The CRJ was flying a circling approach to runway 33 at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), which sits directly across the river from the nation's Capitol. In layman's terms, they were flying down the Potomac with the end of the approach being a low-altitude left turn onto short final to land

This reader has eyes open for embedded Democrats wreaking havoc simply to discredit the new administration. My week started with reporting to a government building in the hinterland at 7 a.m. and every street light in the parking lot was turned off. I have no doubt that The Resistance is real.

That said, will we ever be told the identities, qualifications, and experience of the specific air traffic controllers who were on duty at the Reagan Tower who were responsible for ensuring that the involved commercial airliner and the military helicopter maintained the appropriate separation to keep from colliding?

So these total liars imply that a hiring freeze two days ago caused an accident? Do they imagine that a person hired two days ago would be magically up to speed and popped into that position to save the day on their second day at work?
Stupid, ridiculous lies.

From what I've gathered, it has been a long standing policy for the army helicopters to move across the river at that point. This was a training verification mission. The air traffic controllers gave the the copter crew orders to fly behind the passenger plane and confirmed they had visual.
It's possible, the copter had visual on another passenger plane a short distance away, and flew right into the plane they were supposed to avoid.
Two questions in my mind, was how experienced (and lacking in DEI) was the copter crew? And WHY is the military flying at night across the paths of civilian aircraft during landing?
This reminds me of Flight 800 up along Manhattan. They still won't admit it, but I'm fairly certain our US Navy shot that 747 down. They were testing sea to air missile close to civilian flight paths - probably to see if the missiles could differentiate between a target and civilian airlines - whoops! It was close to a Clinton election, so cya.

Keep this in mind, everything...EVERYTHING that happens in this country (or the world) that is not good, will be blamed on President Trump by the totally useless media and the Rats. It's all they know how to do.

I remember the last crash at DCA in 1982. This was a couple of years after I quit flying full-time, but I still had a set of Jeppesen approach plates for this airport and I dug out the one for runway 33. I was amazed that anyone would try to fly that approach at night or in really bad weather. It looked dangerous. I’m surprised that 43 years later, they haven’t figured out a better way to do it.
That being said, my first thought was “the helicopter caused it.”

Maybe I am naive, but I thought the air traffic controller would be yelling "collision imminent - abort landing"!

From the recorded air traffic controller message to the helicopter, the controller asked if the pilot of the copter could see the aircraft. The copter pilot responded he could see the aircraft. An airline pilot explained that what the copter pilot was probably looking at was another aircraft which was taking off and thought that the controller was referring to that plane, and not the plane he eventually flew into. I'm guessing since this was a training mission for the copter pilot, he probably had night vision wear on which several former military pilots who commented on tv stated reduces the vision of the pilot to a certain extent.

I think #9 has the correct info. The helo is reported to have been flying under Visual Flight Rules, which the short version is "see and avoid", like driving a car. But, if the helo pilot was advised of traffic, and "saw it" but it was the wrong aircraft that he was avoiding, he perhaps didn't see the aircraft that he was supposed to be avoiding.
Again. ADS-B is supposed to provide pilot instructions to climb or descend as required to avoid collision. Guaranteed the airliner had it, but I am unsure if the military aircraft are required to comply with the FAA regulations on ADS-B installation and use.

The people in the Tower and in the cockpits of the aircraft probably had those jobs before January 20th. So, what has this accident got to do with the current President? The rabid Democrats can't quit can they?

Which explains why PDJT just laid responsibility for this event at the feet of the Delaware Doofus and Pete Buttguy. The libtard media wet their onesies over it, but, sadly for them, the truth hurts.

Blancolirio posted a video early this morning, which is unusually quick for him. In a nutshell, the ceiling for the corridor that the helicopter was flying is 200 feet. The collision occurred at just below 400. The Army has apparently been doing that and other routes for quite a while. The wisdom of their use and design can be debated, but that was the probable cause. Other holes in the Swiss cheese lined up as well - the helo pilot saw traffic, but was it a different aircraft or lights on the urban backdrop. And, I gather, the helo crew was communicating with the tower on a military frequency that ATC can hear but not commercial aircraft. I’ll wait to read the preliminary report before I attribute much to those things.
I live in Wichita and we’re all heartbroken. One thing we can all agree on.

It takes 1 whole year of training for a person to qualify as an Air Traffic Controller. The left is showing their hate for PRESIDENT Trump and the Americans who have common sense. Everyday the left comes out with some stinking lie or false claim against President Trump and his cabinet picks. This time, they are using the deaths of 67 innocent people to show the world just how nasty they are. It's sad!
