Trump Cuts Off EV Charging Gravy Train

President Donald Trump’s recent executive order targeting electric vehicle charging infrastructure funding could have significant implications for Elon Musk’s Tesla, which has benefited from these programs in the past. TechCrunch reports that in direct move against the EV industry, President Donald Trump has signed an executive order declaring that “All agencies shall immediately pause the disbursement of funds” from programs created by the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The order specifically calls for a halt to funding for EV charging stations made available through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program and the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) grant program.

Comments:

Wonderful - wish they'll eliminate more charging stations in shopping center parking lots and replace them with more spaces for the handicapped and elderly.

With $100 B in annual profits, and in having built out the largest and most successful,Ev charging network, the $17 M in fed funds given to Tesla under the unsuccessful,EV program are insignificant

Let's apply the common sense rule here (and everywhere). Are EVs a good option for some people in some cases (such as short, in-town trips)? Yes, they are. So what's wrong with EVs? It's not EVs but the forced mandates to buy EVs and prematurely phase out ICE vehicles. Let the market determine when and how the options are viable. Carry on.

There are lots of things that seem like a good idea, and in fact may be a good idea, but we just can't afford it. At least not at this time. And this includes things that seem to be compassionate for unfortunate people. But we just don't have the money to make life perfect for unfortunate people.

The Tesla is a quality, innovative car. The Lithium batteries suck and the government's failure to build the necessary infrastructure are not Elon's fault.

My question is why are taxpayers being forced to pay for building charging stations? I'm pretty sure when our great-grandparents started driving automobiles taxpayers didn't pay for gas stations to be built.

"Although the program spent $7.5 billion, only eight charging stations were actually constructed." You really have to wonder what was done with all that money. Biden's retirement account? I have no complaints with EVs, as long as they compete on their own merits like all other cars. Government didn't pay to build gas stations. They were built by oil companies to sell their products. Charging infrastructure is a different type of fueling. If charging stations are needed, all the EV companies should pay into a fund to build such stations. Maybe electric companies might chip in too since they are providing the "fuel" and making money doing it. Most simply, get government OUT of business.

In addition to "why are the tax payer funding this", the program was saddled with smorgasbord of lefty strings, requirements and DEI regulations that it was near impossible to actually get a charging station installed. I don't know if Trump can end funding in light of the fact that Congress did pass a bill that was signed into law. But he can eliminate the red tape that prevents the charging stations from being built at a reasonable price. Half of the cost of any federal project is compliance.

U.S. civil rights groups are warning that an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday lays the groundwork for reinstatement of a ban on travelers from predominantly Muslim or Arab countries. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) said the new order relied on the same statutory authority used to justify Trump's 2017 travel ban and offered even "wider latitude to use ideological exclusion to deny visa requests and remove individuals" who had already entered the country. It unveiled a new 24-hour hotline

On that, there is little surprise. Reports have already surfaced indicating Harris has been actively instructing her advisers and allies to keep her political options open.
