If you have to be somewhere you don’t want to be — like, say, the inauguration of Donald Trump — you may as well make it known you’re not down with the program. At least, that’s what it seems Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson did. Yesterday, during the inauguration, while Mark Zuckerberg was yucking it up with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez and Elon Musk simply could not hold himself back from throwing a thumbs-up to the camera, Justice Jackson sat quietly. With her judicial robes, she wore a collar and a pair of earrings made up of cowrie

I did not know, but I can see why, cowrie shells represent women. Worse that pink pussy hats.
It's the other side of the cowrie shells that is usually the prettiest.

It looked like the witch doctor made her a bullet proof vest.
I recall a story I read years ago, in a news publication published in Africa, about a man who went to the witch doctor to make him bullet proof. After preparing the concoction, the man drank it, and asked the witch doctor to run a test. The test was run, the customer died, and what happened next I do not know. True story from the news. (I wonder if it was a lifetime warranty.)

Cowrie shells were typically used as currency and trade in Africa, so I get that she wanted to wear something highlighting her heritage but it struck me as odd that shed want to wear it as a Supreme Court judge. Was she trying to say she was bought and sold to the USSC??? How deficient in logic was she?!
And if she wanted to say yet an umpteenth thing about muh peepuhl slaves, well...honey those cowries only meant something to other Africans (who were the ones who captured and enslaved your people first). Once they left the shores, cowries were about as valuable as pebbles to everyone else.

The House should impeach her for bias and not faithfully administering her oath. Sure it wouldn't amount to anything but it would put the m out political Chief Just-Us, Roberts, on noticed that everyone can see the Supreme Joke is a Joke! Everyone could see its about the politics, not not the law. At a minimum, it would force Roberts and the other 4 liberals on the court to do a better job hiding their bias.

What - no kente cloth to wear? I am second generation born American - grandparents emigrated from Germany. If I wore some dirndl to such an event - people would openly laugh at me. But being an American of African descent and in this country (I know not by choice so leave then) and with family ties going back much more than me, she's allowed to wear her ancestry.

I disagree with the writer. Justice Brown would never where these beads/shells, whatever, as a sign of womanhood. Remember, she said she is incapable of defining what a woman is since she is not a biologist.
Man, how the United States Supreme Court has fallen.

strange that a women who does not know what a women is wears a necklace defending women.
Biden put her on the court for her political views. When the justices sit together at the SOU address, they are not allowed to applaud or stand or show any of their likes or dislike's of the speech. they are suppose to be impartial. no opinions shown by aby member of the court. By wearing her shells she was blatantly showing her disapproval of President Trump and over 75 million Americans that voted for him.
contrary to beliefs, Supreme Court Justices can be impeached. Brown Jackson, along with Roberts, should be impeached. ONLY Constitutional lawyers should be on the court.

I noticed the same thing #32 noticed. Jackson marched through the room like she was about to whip someone with her belt. Every time the camera panned to her and the other Justices, she looked like she wasn't quite there. I understand she is pretty mouthy on the Court, but I bet she doesn't make any sense. Right, #40.
The Vikings were not owners of slaves, but buyers and sellers. They were good at capturing them all over northwestern Europe and selling them wherever. There was a big market in Constantinople.
Saint Patrick of Ireland was a slave. That's how he got to Ireland.

Well, hopefully she is better at resisting than she is at the law because she is grossly incompetent at that. She took an oath to support the Constitution but all her rulings show she has no respect for it and doesn't understand it. To Leftists, the law is what THEY say it is. It is transient based on who, what, and when. Therefore, it is chaos, the absence of any meaningful foundation to build a civilization on.

author doesn't have enough "Pull" to get a quote from the Justice herself, certainly not about something as pedestrian as "Fashion".
Thus she "speculates"....and offers three or more possibilities about exactly WHAT statement "might" be being made.
She also did a piece about "Trumps new hairstyle", saying it looked as if it is coifed by a toddler....Oh, do try to remember, "Her" pronouns are "They/Them".
She used to work for the NYT, both they and her current employer have a link to take you to "Their" prior articles(meaning HER prior articles)

FTA: historians “speculate the cowries may have been brought to America as talismans to resist enslavement.” (Jackson’s ancestors were enslaved.)
This article appears to be - and hopefully is - pure speculation. How sad it would be that a SC Justice can’t see how blessed she is to have risen so far above her ancestral beginnings, to the highest court in the greatest country on earth, and that “quiet resistance” is the reason for wearing cowries over her Supreme Court judicial robes. Cowrie talismans didn’t free her ancestors!
A more positive reason would be in honoring the memory of her ancestors, the fact that she is an American, and celebrating the victories which did free them because of the biblical precepts and principles within America’s Founding Documents.

What does America do when they have an incompetent, politically anti-American Supreme Court judge who is on the bench for life?
