Puerto Rico’s governor has called on President-elect Donald Trump to respond after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro threatened to invade the U.S. territory.
Governor Jenniffer González-Colón called on Trump’s administration to “swiftly respond and make clear to the Maduro narco-regime that the U.S. will protect American lives and sovereignty and won’t bow down to petty, murderous thugs” in a letter addressed to the president-elect Monday.
González-Colón called Maduro’s threat “an open threat to the United States, our national security and stability in the region.”

I can't imagine a single more stupid thing for Venezuela to do.... so, they might be considering it.
But, FAFO.

Why would Venezuela even want Puerto Rico?
Somebody who sent the letter must have had a nightmare.

A Marxist Hood manages to take over a South American country with promises of utopia. Turns into a brutal dictatorship. Who'd a thunk! Time for a regime change.

Venezuela is already invading the US. They may already be invading Puerto Rico. All of those Venezuelan gang members taking over apartment complexes and communities are part of that invasion. Thanks Joe Biden.

I don’t think that Maduro, the bus driver, knows geography, to be making that threat. It would be like invading Florida. He better do it while Biden is still “president” if he has any chance of getting away with it.

It's time to get out the cigar cutter and smoke Maduro. He would be better with a bullet in him. Get rid of the rest of the communists in the hemisphere.

"The Mouse That Roared" strategy. He wants us to come rebuild Venezuela. He wants all the great toys that Afghanistan got.

Well, our border is closing. He's got to find a place to ship all of the gang members, derelicts and criminals being returned plus it adds a thorn in the side of the US.

Clinton should never have closed down Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, PR but as the US Navy warned him - if you cave into Al Sharpton's protests about using Vieques Island as a bombing range (since the 1930s) then no need to keep NAVSTA RR open. That base pumped a lot of money (and good jobs) into the local economy. It was our only naval base in the Caribbean and close to Central and South America.

As #5 remarked, Venezuela during the Biden-Harris Administration has already been silently invading the USA using masses to illegal aliens, with Biden just the other day helping with that Venezuelan effort by misusing the US Immigration laws by granting Venezuelan illegal aliens a status that would allow them to remain in the USA over the length of Trump’s upcoming term in office. For sure once Trump is inaugurated, Venezuela will quickly change its tune about invading Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico shouldn't worry about Maduro. He won't be around much longer.

Typically, one needs a navy big enough to land something bigger than a beach party before threatening the world's second largest nuclear navy. The US coast guard can easily defeat the Venezuela navy.

Sounds like a good plan to me!
Then we could crush him and help the duly elected Government take their rightful office.

Obviously, Maduro has never been to Puerto Rico. The first thing that will happen is they will get caught in a traffic jam.

"The liberty of Puerto Rico is pending, and we will achieve it with Brazilian troops,” he [Maduro] added.
Now wait a minute, everyone. He is going to invade PR with the help of Brazil. They might kick soccer balls at our troops. We should be afraid of these very serious threats.

Go ahead, make Trump's day - it will be the last thing Maduro ever does. BTW - Venezuela will be liberated by Trump shortly after Maduro assumes room temperature.

This is bluster. Maduro knows what would happen to him if he invades a US territory. Brazilian troops? Seriously.

Yeah...yeah...huff and puff...com'on Maduro...give US your best shot...WE're ready for you...and WE will protect Puerto Rico because they are Americans...so are you hoping for a call from President Trump to make yourself look important to the world press....or shall WE call it fake new.....all the gesturing and chest beating is getting boring....or were you hoping for an invitation to the inaugural proceedings.......don't think so....

In October 1983 there was a man in Grenada named Maurice Bishop who was put in as PM by Fidel Castro. Ronald Raegan didn't like that. Instead of sending Bishop a diplomatic note Raegan instead sent the 82nd Airborne Division to settle the issue. Maurice Bishop's left wing government fell. Surprise! Surprise! It's long overdue for the U.S. to settle the abomination that is Venezuela. I hope Trump will find the correct pretext to right this issue. We have tolerated a Marxist Venezuela for far too long.
