Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s choice for Defense secretary, on Tuesday emerged largely unscathed from an at times blistering confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee. Democratic lawmakers on the panel took aim at Hegseth’s lack of experience leading an agency as large and complex as the Pentagon, claims related to his treatment of women and excessive drinking, and his past comments on the role of women in the military. Multiple Democrats also expressed concerns that an FBI background check on Hegseth, an Army veteran, left out crucial details about major allegations levied against him. The report was viewed by the panel’s top two members on Friday.

It doesn't take a lot of skill to run the DOD. Remember Austin went into the hospital and no one missed him.

The hysterical questioning by the female Senators relating to women in combat roles and their refusal to accept any response from Hegseth was very annoying and expected. The personal attacks by the Democrats, when many of them were guilty of the exact same things (or worse) was hypocritical. When Senator Mullins called them out I wanted to jump up and applaud. I wish there were a banner captioning what Hegseth was really thinking when some of the Democrat questions were asked and really wanted to say to them.

This event needs a lot of coverage because it has the potential to be helpful in military recruiting. All the services are finding it impossible to meet their recruiting needs under the current woke leadership.

They made fools of themselves. Isn't there a huge slush fund for members of Congress to pay off sex scandals? How many of them have ever run a business? As a matter of fact, how many of them have had a job other than being in Congress. AOC was a bartender in NY. Chuck Schumer has never held a job. The list goes on and on. I am ashamed of our Congresswomen. They make the harridans on the View look normal.

I watched the whole thing and just felt sorry for Hegseth having to listen to all that bilge--especially Gillibrand, Hirono, Kaine and Duckworth. They'd "ask" a loaded question and then interrupt his answer--and answer it themselves for him. Utter trash. They had their talking points and ran with them. Confirmation hearing? I think not. Democrat theatre. Go Pete!

If they are so interested in how we defend ourselves, where have they been over the past four years? Our military is in horrible shape. They can't get decent recruits because of the political interference with their mission. The armed forces is not a T Ball game where everybody gets a chance. I have a relative who is a trainer in the Coast Guard and 10 years ago the minimum IQ for a recruit was 100. Now, it is 80. That is Border Line Impaired and these folks will be supporting the electronics on our ships that patrol our waters. Someone needs to ask those nasty people trying to tear down Hegseth why they have been asleep at the switch and let this happen?

I'm still laughing over Hegseth's response to Lieawatha. Concerning the personal questions the dems asked him ~ I have to wonder how many of his male questioners had to make use of a certain slush fund. Inquiring minds.....

The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel will go into effect in less than 24 hours, said Qatar’s foreign ministry on Saturday. In a post on X, Qatar’s foreign minister Majid al-Ansari, said the ceasefire will start at 8:30 a.m. (0630 GMT) Sunday. He advised people to exercise caution when the agreement goes into effect and wait for directions from officials. Early Saturday morning, Israel’s Cabinet approved the deal for a ceasefire in Gaza that would release dozens of hostages and pause the 15-month war with Hamas, bringing the sides a step closer to ending their deadliest and most destructive fighting ever.

The Israeli security cabinet has officially approved the long-awaited cease-fire deal with Hamas, putting a pause to the fighting in Gaza and allowing for the release of dozens of hostages held captive by the terrorist group for 15 months. The 11 voting members of the security cabinet approved the deal with a simple majority vote, the Prime Minister’s Office said. The full, 33-member Israeli cabinet will meet to approve the agreement at 3:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m. ET). Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet and the Israeli government accepted the peace agreement after negotiators for the Jewish state and Hamas signed off on the deal.

We start this discussion with a note of thanks to the ridiculous democrats and republicans for using the questioning session for AG nominee Pam Bondi, to out themselves on the issue of FISA-702, the unconstitutional surveillance of American citizens. While many will not see it, the timing here is not coincidental. At the behest of President Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson has removed House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) Chairman Mike Turner from his position. Mike Turner is no longer Chairman of HPSCI. This is a big loss for the Deep State. Remember also, that President Trump had previously announced an intelligence advisory board headed by Devin Nunes

The cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas is meant to be a first step, and we don’t know what happens next, or the promises that were made behind the scenes. It is possible that President-elect Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed on this move merely as a tactical prelude to a set of far-reaching measures that will yet transform the Middle East. And, most importantly, the idea of dozens of Israelis — including toddlers — returning home after more than a year in purgatory is enough to dull even the most hawkish observer’s concerns.

Reuters quotes Netanyahu’s office saying “Hamas reneges on parts of the agreement reached with the mediators and Israel in an effort to extort last minute concessions. The Israeli cabinet will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement.”

Independence Day, observed annually on July 4, is a national holiday that honors the ratification of the Declaration of Independence. This pivotal document marked the founding of the United States of America and its liberation from British tyranny and oppression. In the mid-1990s, a song with the same title was awarded Country Music Song of the Year. Performed by Martina McBride, it celebrates a woman’s liberation from her abusive husband. What are the commonalities? Oppression and abuse. Is anyone else sensing a strong stench of these in America, what used to be a shining city on a hill?

During the California leg of a year-long journey across America, I devoted a day to visiting two presidential libraries within a short distance of each other. I started that morning at the Richard Nixon Presidential Museum and Library and a few hours later proceeded to that of Ronald Reagan. Some months earlier I had also stopped at the Harry Truman Library and Museum in Missouri. Every president is actively encouraged to plan and construct an official repository of his documents from his time in office. The resulting library is more than the collection of the paperwork generated during his tenure, however.

Envy is an ugly thing -- one of the seven deadly sins. One reason for this success: The United States innovates while Europe regulates. Instead of fixing their economies, the European Union bureaucrats want to kneecap America's tech success stories with lawsuits and regulatory barbed wire fences to keep American firms from competing on a level playing field. Europeans have long been dripping with jealousy that American firms dominate the tech sector -- cellphones, search engines, social media platforms, artificial intelligence and robotics. Our "magnificent seven" tech companies -- including Google, Nvidia, Apple and Amazon -- saw massive stocks market gains in 2024. Meanwhile, Europe has flatlined.

Although his presidency and his legacy have been thoroughly repudiated—whether it be through the polls, which show he’s one of the lowest-rates presidents of all time, or at the ballot box where his hand-picked successor Kamala Harris was brutalized in the November elections—his tenure has been thoroughly tainted by an astounding record of failure. Inflation has killed the dreams of regular folks as just paying for groceries has become a traumatic experience; young people have no hope of buying a home or living the American Dream—considering the crushing interest rates and noxious cost of living. Meanwhile, wars rage on the international stage.
