Puerto Rico suffered the latest in a string of widespread power outages Tuesday that has left 1.3 million customers, some 80% of the entire island, in the dark. More than 1 million energy customers were without power across the U.S. territory since 5:30 a.m. due to an infrastructure problem at a power plant on the island's southern coast, energy company LUMA said in an update on X. LUMA said in a statement that the fault appeared to be an underground cable and that it was working with partners to restart the island's power network. "LUMA will be restoring power to customers in phases. We’ve already begun the process of reenergizing some customers

When I lived in PR many years ago, the power company along with water and phone were run by the government. It looks like they either changed the name or privatized it. In either case, it has issues.

We are going on a Cruise next month and one of the stops is Puerto Rico. I'm wondering if it's Safe, or has enough to see, to get off the Ship! A lot of the stops in the Caribbean we have seen many times, so we just stay on the Ship and play cards with our Travel Companions!

I have the impression- after the near-total blackout they had a few years ago due to a hurricane- that the whole PR power system was held together with spit, duct tape and a bit of baling wire here and there. I recall that there was a bunch of money allocated to improve the system.... I wonder if they are actually improving the system or if the money disappeared down the usual 'Rat holes. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Their dysfunctional leaders have been stealing the funding for reworking their tired, old power grid which was damaged by several hurricanes and never properly repaired. This shouldn't be surprising. Cut PR loose, make it independent and stop letting them come to the USA.

Authorities are investigating a Tesla Cybertruck explosion on Wednesday outside the Trump Las Vegas hotel in Nevada as a possible act of terror, law enforcement officials said. Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told reporters that investigators were looking into any possible connections to the deadly attack in New Orleans earlier Wednesday but had not yet discovered any. The driver of the Cybertruck pulled into the valet area of the hotel and the vehicle exploded, according to an official. The driver was killed and, so far, is the only fatality from the incident. Seven bystanders had minor injuries, authorities said.

While initial reports regarding the explosion of a Tesla cybertruck in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, Wednesday morning left open the possibility that the incident was a malfunction with the vehicle itself, it appears we can now rule that out. Not only have officials confirmed they're investigating the incident as a possible act of terror, but Elon Musk has confirmed his team's diagnostics indicate all systems on the truck checked out prior to the explosion, and it appears the explosion was caused by fireworks and/or a bomb. We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb

As what’s left of the Biden administration winds down, I’d like to offer an end-of-days reminder: Joe Biden wasn’t just a terrible president. His Attorney General Merrick Garland was an equally terrible leader of the Department of Justice. Garland, you may recall, was nominated for the Supreme Court by President Barack Obama to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died suddenly a few months before the 2016 election. Republicans sat on Garland’s nomination, maintaining that the seat should be filled by a new president. We were told that this was hideously unfair and partisan, especially because, as the Obama administration

Trump’s first term faced significant challenges from a lack of loyalty and discipline within his ranks. Some of his appointees seemed more focused on securing lucrative book deals filled with sensational claims, while others leaked information at every opportunity. Additionally, some personnel choices were puzzling and likely hindered his ability to govern as effectively as possible. However, it seems the new Trump transition is already taking steps to address these past missteps, setting a more disciplined tone, which is likely going to mean a far more effective and efficient administration this time around. And that’s thanks to Susie Wiles, Trump’s incoming White House chief of staff.

More pure idiocy from green pushers spread by the complicit media, via Yahoo News: Climate change is making plants less nutritious − that could already be hurting animals that are grazers More than one-third of all animals on Earth, from beetles to cows to elephants, depend on plant-based diets. Plants are a low-calorie food source, so it can be challenging for animals to consume enough energy to meet their needs. Now climate change is reducing the nutritional value of some foods that plant eaters rely on. Human activities are increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide levels and raising global temperatures. As a result, many plants are growing faster across ecosystems worldwide.
