President-elect Donald Trump honored former President Jimmy Carter upon hearing of his death at age 100, graciously remembering him as a man who did his best “to improve the lives of all Americans.” The president-elect honored the now-deceased former president in a post on his Truth Social account Sunday. “I just heard of the news about the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Those of us who have been fortunate to have served as President understand this is a very exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History,” Trump wrote. My husband was a Vietnam Vet, when Carter proclaimed the draft dodgers could come back to the U.S. without charges (we heard it on car radio) my husband hit the gas and I thought we were gonna die. I never could forget that day or that Carter did that. What an insult to all the Vietnam Vets.

I most certainly owe a debt of gratitude to Jimmy Carter. His terrible administration made us like a third world nation. As a democrat, I voted for him, but after a few years of misery, I proudly registered as a republican and voted for Ronald Reagan, who soundly defeated Carter. I have not voted for a democrat since that time. Thank you, Jimmy.

"Andante con ping pong" was Bob Tyrrell's apt description of Carter's odd speaking cadence. SNL's first Not Ready for Prime Time crew gently made fun of Carter--Dan Aykrord did a funny impression of Carter--having him say, "I have worn women's clothing. And I look good in them." But his Secret Service detail, who knew him intimately, utterly despised him, and considered him a phony, disrespectful and dismissing of his Secret Service detail. Inadvertently, due to incompetence, Carter guided America to Reagan. Voters had had enough, too.

Alternate headline: Palestinian Authority Official Bucks History in Sensing Wind Direction. The PA has long suffered from leadership that obstinately refuses to recognize reality, all the way back to its PLO roots. Has that begun to change with Benjamin Netanyahu's reshaping of the region and Donald Trump's return to the White House? Fatah general secretary Mohammad Hamdan may have vested interests in talking down Hamas, but it doesn't mean he's not right. Hamdan tells the New York Post that he expects Trump to crush Hamas, but not directly. Trump will take down Iran, which will put a stake through the heart of Fatah's bitter enemy.

LUMA said in a statement that the fault appeared to be an underground cable and that it was working with partners to restart the island's power network. As what’s left of the Biden administration winds down, I’d like to offer an end-of-days reminder: Joe Biden wasn’t just a terrible president. His Attorney General Merrick Garland was an equally terrible leader of the Department of Justice. Garland, you may recall, was nominated for the Supreme Court by President Barack Obama to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died suddenly a few months before the 2016 election. Republicans sat on Garland’s nomination, maintaining that the seat should be filled by a new president. We were told that this was hideously unfair and partisan, especially because, as the Obama administration

Trump’s first term faced significant challenges from a lack of loyalty and discipline within his ranks. Some of his appointees seemed more focused on securing lucrative book deals filled with sensational claims, while others leaked information at every opportunity. Additionally, some personnel choices were puzzling and likely hindered his ability to govern as effectively as possible. However, it seems the new Trump transition is already taking steps to address these past missteps, setting a more disciplined tone, which is likely going to mean a far more effective and efficient administration this time around. And that’s thanks to Susie Wiles, Trump’s incoming White House chief of staff.

The 2024 election marked a significant shift in political dynamics. Democrats, who have long had an advantage on social issues, continued to double down on the most radical of positions, ceding the advantage to Republicans and allowing them to go on the offensive rather than being defensive. For example, the Trump campaign managed to successively use Kamala’s radical positions on gender against her, telling voters, "Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you." It’s no secret that Democrats now have to reassess their agenda if they want to win back mainstream voters, particularly working-class Americans. These voters, who make up the majority of the electorate, have increasingly become alienated

The heated debate over H-1B visa workers obscures the far greater inflows of other foreign workers into the white-collar jobs needed by American college graduates. The federal government issues about 130,000 new H-1B visas each year — plus another 650,000 visas or work permits to other white-collar migrants each year. Many of these non-immigrant workers are allowed to stay for five, six, or seven years. The multi-year visas create a resident population of at least 1.5 million white-collar workers. That growing population is almost twenty times larger than the H-1B program’s inflow of 85,000 new foreign workers every year that the media is focusing on.

Democrats are boasting that Jimmy Carter's death could overshadow Donald Trump's upcoming inauguration due to a long upheld tradition. Standard protocol states that all flags should be flown at half mast at federal buildings for 30 days following the death of a former president. Carter, the 39th U.S. President, died at 100 years old on Sunday afternoon, almost two years after entering hospice care and just 22 days before Trump's inauguration on January 20. Outspoken MAGA critics and Democrat voters have quipped that the half mast flags during such a pivotal moment are Carter's parting gift to Trump after their longstanding feud.
