President-elect Trump told The Post Saturday he supports immigration visas for highly skilled workers, appearing to side with Elon Musk in the roiling intra-MAGA debate on the issue.
“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump said by phone, referring to the H-1B program, which permits companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations.
“I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program,” added Trump

March 3,2016:
"Megyn Kelly asked about highly-skilled immigration. The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices such as those that occurred at Disney in Florida when Americans were forced to train their foreign replacements. I will end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions."

I worked in tech for many years.
H1b as intended is not a bad a program. The problem is that's not how it is implemented and executed. The real world version is terrible for Americans and American companies who I have personally witnessed hiring vastly inferior staff with fake resumes who drag down the companies they're a drain on.
If the H1b program was actually functioning as intended I would support it but I'm not holding my breath. Companies who make extensive use of H1b get what they deserve. Cisco's collapse into irrelevance in a field they created and dominated is a great example of what happens to H1b heavy companies.

Why does it seem that President Trump is not better informed on this subject?

previously, we read the position of pdt to be ...the programme is full of fraud; it ought to be re-shaped and eliminated , after so many years of unjust misuses.
we've seen that to be true-for decades.
specifically, fake students in fake schools granting fake credentials for fake jobs. that's fraud.
gratitude is an acquired taste. and, i daresay, if it were not for american generosity and support for innovation, some high rollers would be abandoned to living a hand-to-mouth existence, without achievement. did i say... bill gates?! that can't be right....
we observe the men from doge to be good men, working for the good of the country.
their brief is to expertly study and advise 'w t p' regarding gov't ''waste fraud and abuse''.
it is mystifying to see the disagreement and/or possible cancellation of ms. loomer from x
over 1st a. free speech. to us, she seems a very sincere supporter of mr musk and his platform,
willing to spend for the highest levels of access and quality...a dedicated customer.
truly, the reform-minded innovator tends to be eccentric.
messrs. trump, musk, ramaswamy also would fall into this category.
being irish, we love a good flame-war...apropos of time, place, and manner.
nevertheless, we consider pistols at dawn for mr musk and ms loomer to be 'bad form'.
it is our great hope, wish, and plea that the combatants reconcile, and ms loomer be restored
to the fold of her most favouritist platform-x-.
the battle must rage on.

I'm actually shocked. I thought DJT was dedicated to America first. How do you make MAGA on the backs of imported labor while your own American workers can't begin to work for as little as the foreigners do? DJT believes Americans are making too much money so he now wants to import cheap foreigners. America and Americans are doomed. No wonder the birth rate is so low for real Americans. Donald, thank you so much for showing us the way. You may as well keep all the illegal aliens here cuz you're gonna need them once you've killed us off. You're a helluva guy Don.

It is ILLEGAL immigration I have a problem with and the suggestion that the H-1B visas work against MAGA is someone trying to stir up trouble.

What job on his “properties” require H1B “geniuses”??? Sounds like Trump-the-businessman is taking advantage of the program to import cheap labor.

Today the average entry level salary for IT is 50-75k.
Today the average starter home in the US is 350k.
That is what we sold 2 starter homes for here in Nashville last year and we are a hot market even with higher interest rates. I am sure you can find cheaper and far more expensive but Zillow and Realtor back this up.
Those same starter homes sold 25 years ago for 75-90k, when the average entry level IT worker started out at 40k.
And you wonder why many young people feel hopeless and angry.
Many of these young people know they will never own a home. The globalist want a permanent renter class because renters are more economically vulnerable and home ownership means wealth generation, generational wealth generation many times. But by all means, keep denigrating and discounting our young in favor of non-Americans.

From the Article: "...Steven Mackey jabbed the billionaire’s defense of the program by using the billionaire’s own words against him."
“Stop trying to optimize something that shouldn’t exist,” a line often used by Musk, Mackey wrote. “Let’s optimize H-1B,” he sarcastically added.
Musk fired back: “The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla, and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B.” “Take a big step back and F–K YOURSELF in the face. I (Musk) will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend,” he added, paragraphing (SP) a memorable line from the 2008 comedy “Tropic Thunder.”
America was made strong by H1B and Musk, our budding US statesman, was some kind of South African SAS commando?? From an IT perspective, it was an American (and a Brit working independently) who invented and operationalized packet switching, facilitating data communications in computer networks, paving the way for Internet functionality. Fibre Optic wire was invented and productized by European-Americans, although the name was coined by an Indian. Americans pioneered circuit switching in cellular networks, enabling the Smart Phone revolution, the greatness of which may be questioned but a larger point is that Americans aren't exactly dumb or inherently lazy but I do give a lot of credit to the ingenuity and technical acumen of many of those from India and other Asian countries. I believe Indians invented gun powder, which was copied by China. I don't think the Chinese even invented Kung Fu; again, it has credibly been attributed to an Indian, who taught the fighting skills to Shaolin monks in China. I wish many modern call centers serving American companies and customers didn't rely so heavily on Indian and Chinese workers but between the two, I can understand the Indians better, and most of them appear able to adequately decipher my Texas accent. I hope that this Visa issue gets sorted out in a way that does not hurt Americans, especially as so many of us have been conditioned to believe in the America First concept of governance.

Do most of you not see Help Wanted signs that have been hanging in the windows of thousands of businesses for the past three years? Many Americans decided that they did not want to work during and after COVID and found ways to get the government and their parents to support them. Have you read about the thousands of workers who "worked" from home and decided that they did not want to return to the office. There are two sides to everything.
