President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon is sending shockwaves through the ivory towers of American higher education. For years, university presidents and chancellors have enjoyed a largely unchecked reign, overseeing bloated bureaucracies, skyrocketing tuition, and ideological indoctrination masquerading as scholarship. McMahon's appointment and President-Elect Trump’s comments about reforming higher education signals the arrival of long-overdue accountability that I and many others in higher academia have been praying for.
McMahon is the former head of the Small Business Administration.

I thought we were getting rid of the DOE.

FTA:
"At the same time, employers are increasingly skeptical of the value of a college degree, as many graduates lack the basic skills necessary to succeed in the workforce. Universities, flush with government funding and subsidized student loans, have shifted their focus away from education toward administrative expansion, luxury amenities, and ideological conformity."
A succinct statement of this serious problem. Rotten communists running these institutions as leftist, hate-America brainwashing centers, and turning out incompetents. This must change.

Well it's not as simple as just ending the DOE. Who now will hold the wallet for any largesse paid to the universities.

Too bad Townhall couldn't have picked a picture of her that didn't look like there was food or drool hanging from her mouth. Deliberate? Had it been MSM I'd have no doubt. Perhaps just rushed editing. And yeah, I know it's her earring.

There is a long list of problems with American universities, the worst of which is the replacement of valuable knowledge and skills with indoctrination and social nonsense. American students need to have priority in both admissions and scholarship at a reasonable cost. Some of these schools put more money into sports teams than they do in education. Some students do not have the capacity to learn so they make up basket-weaving level classes to enable them to receive a degree. We are all paying for it.

It's going to be a tough time for so-called educators, and even tougher for their students.

Limit the percentage of funds spent on college and university administration budgets to around 3 percent. Schools need educators, not DEI indoctrination departments. Stop public loans and grants to private universities with endowments.

Tenured professors will just lie low for four years and continue their radical indoctrination when the coast is clear. This problem has been festering since the 1970s. Two generations of "graduates" have come out of the oven half-baked.

You want to increase the value of an education? Increase funding for 'workforce development' programs in 2-year schools. Diesel mechanics. corrosion engineering. computer programming. Residential and commercial electrician training. Process technology. Even paralegal training. And more. These are in-demand jobs. A 20-year old kid with a 2-year diesel mechanic or corrosion AAS degree has potential employers bidding for them, and will start with a $60000+ salary. And in Texas all those workforce development programs have to report how many of their graduates are employed in their field within one year after graduation. Each school and each program is evaluated on their success rate and continued funding is dependent on overall success. Record keeping is a hassle, but it is for a good reason.

I'm looking forward to seeing McMahon body slam Butch Whinefartin followed by performing a suplex on the Ivy League schmucks.

This article doesn’t go far enough. These universities and the banks have to be the ones to forgive student debt and then be forced to cut tuitions back to reasonable levels, like 30 grand per year, otherwise, we tax their endowments. That is what will get their attention. Trump has already suggested this and McMahon should follow through.

Good news. This also needs to happen clear down to the K through 12 level. Also, she must free the teachers from the endless hours of implementing these ridiculous DEI programs and useless administrative recordkeeping.

It has been difficult for my grandson to chose a college...they are all so tainted with DEI and woke ideas...constant garage of leftie dribble comes at our kids on the media sites and choosing what's fact and what is not is a constant challenge...when Chicago forced busing I moved my children into private schools...at a hefty cost...and in addition paying taxes to support government schools...but...it was the best decision I ever made....WE need school choice....

All Diverusity. Equity and Inclusion statements (more properly called DIE, since DEI means “ of God” in Latin, Communists thimkmog everything) sshould be eliminated from applications and professor promotions.
I was surprised to learn that UCLA no longer requires SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) for admissions.
missions. They also favor illegal Dereamers.

Step One: Eliminate the Federal Department of Education, firing all its employees.
Step Two: Put an 'Auto-Reply' on all calls saying all questions should be referred one's State Department of Education.
Step Three: Tell them on the way off the call just how much this change has saved them in tax dollars, along with, "MAGA."

There needs to be a serious reckoning in K-12 education too. Lots of misspent funds via the Title programs and special education spending has ballooned because of all the kids who now have special ed diagnoses.

Another big part of the scam is charging college tuition for high school level courses because the DOE has failed at the elementary, junior high and high school levels to maintain any sort of standards. That freshman high school biology, algebra and English classes are even part of a junior college curriculum is criminal and an indictment on the failure of educational standards (or rather the lack thereof).

Good options: trade schools, community college. Another is to take a year or two off. You can learn more if you get the partying out of your system before you go. You learn what you don’t like, and you can learn a lot before you get in the classroom. Junior college is a great way to save money on your basic courses.
Avoid loans AT ALL COSTS. I graduated college in 1982, was in grad school for my10th high school reunion. High school friends who took on trades had nice cars, even owned houses. I had a 1971 Chevy Nova, and a low paying job teaching in an adult job training program.
