It’s been nearly two weeks since UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed in midtown Manhattan. Thankfully, his alleged killer, Luigi Mangione, 26, was captured after someone recognized him at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pa. While the evidence all appears to confirm Mangione is the killer, in a lot of ways, it just doesn’t make sense why this kid, who grew up privileged and went to an Ivy League school and everything, would be driven to murder. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has something to say on that issue that the Democrats won’t be happy about. Adams bluntly described a disturbing trend he’s witnessed among young people

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has loudly announced his intention to "Trump proof" the state ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2025. Some of the things he wants to do will be extremely unpopular with the state's residents, and legislators who watched their districts vote for Trump (or saw big leaps in that direction) will be wary of publicly signing on to his radical agenda. He's in a bit of a conundrum. He's probably been longing for the unchecked power he had from March 2020 through February 28, 2023, when Californians lived under a State of Emergency for the COVID pandemic.

Democrats have engaged in many election post mortems, but they are either unable or unwilling to come go grips with the real reasons why they lost the 2024 election. One of many cases in point is this op-ed by Rahm Emanuel in The Washington Post. Emanuel’s theme is that the Democrats are too nice, and too joyful, for their own good. The Post’s subhed for the piece is “Campaigns of joy in an era of rage don’t win elections.” Which means that the Post can’t tell the difference between joy and gaslighting.

In a letter to Judge Juan Merchan unsealed Tuesday, Trump attorneys Todd Blanche and Emil Bove claimed the legal team has “evidence of grave juror misconduct during the trial.”
“The jury in this case was not anywhere near fair and impartial,” they alleged.
But prosecutors with the Manhattan district attorney’s office called the allegations “untested” and “unsworn,” casting the claim as an effort to undermine public confidence in the case.
Tech mogul Elon Musk continued his tirade against the newly unveiled end-of-year funding deal Wednesday, calling for any lawmaker who supports the continuing resolution to be voted out of office.
“Any member of the House or Senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in 2 years!” Musk wrote in a post on his social platform X.
“Please call your elected representatives right away to tell them how you feel!” he added in a separate post. “They are trying to get this passed today while no one is paying attention.”
Musk also called for a moratorium on all legislation until President-elect Trump takes office.
The US central bank has cut interest rates for a third time, despite concerns that the move will deliver a boost to the economy that risks re-igniting price inflation.
The decision was expected, setting the Federal Reserve's key lending rate in a target range of 4.25% to 4.5%.
That is down a full percentage point since September, when the bank started lowering borrowing costs, citing progress stabilising prices and a desire to head off economic weakening.
Reports since then indicate the job market has been more resilient than expected while price rises have continued to bubble.
