Call me old-fashioned, but I've always believed that the government's job was to provide basic services like roads and infrastructure and otherwise stay out of the way so people could make their lives better. At the very least, I figured it was the government's job to not make things worse.
That's exactly why I left San Francisco 30 years ago when, as I liked to joke, the state had made it impossible even to take a leak without first filing a CalEPA environmental impact statement. In triplicate, of course. And with a hefty filing fee.
On January 1, life in San Francisco will get that much worse

Was it Bob Hope who said he had to leave California before they made being gay mandatory? Probably get cancelled of boycotted for making that joke now.

From the article:
"San Francisco is losing 14,000 parking spots and doesn’t even have the budget to paint the curbs"
San Fran Sicko. Enjoy.

A car? Sure you can still have a car in CA. You won't be able to gas it up or hook it up to a charging station easily. But yeah, you can have a car. Oh, one more thing. You won't be able to park anywhere. But feel free to drive around. At least for now. We are working on making autos totally obsolete. Why would you want to drive when you can be inconvenienced by bus service? Baby steps people but we will get there. With FKH on the horizon as the next governor we are feeling positive about the future of CA. You don't need no stinking car.

Shortly after BART was implemented. I took my family to a station outside the city. I knew San Francisco was a challenge for driving. We rode BART into the city. Had a great time, and rode back with minimum hassle. This was 1985. Nowadays, there’s no way anyone normal can enjoy SF.

Every time I read about San Francisco, I'm glad I moved. Sure, CO is a blue state, but at least they aren't California crazy.
I rarely went to San Francisco, but when I did, it was nearly impossible to find a parking spot. The consensus then was they had more cars than parking spots. Now, it's got to be even worse.
I guess things aren't bad enough, yet, in CA, to throw out the lunatic lefties (but then, I repeat myself) and bring some sane people to Sacratomato to undo all the lefty craziness!

The homeless drug addicts are outraged over this newe law that directly decreases their earning potential by 20%. Fortunately, the San Francisco city council implemented a 50% tax on toilet paper to make up the lost income.

You can bet that the lefty nitwits that came up with this garbage either get to work in a taxpayer funded SUV (with driver) or have designated spaces to park in a parking garage. ''Let them eat cake.''

The majority of Californians must be masochist or brainwashed, because they keep voting for democrats.

To those who didn't read this story, San Francisco did not eliminate 14,000 parking spaces on a left-wing whim. The loss will be due to a state law that prevents parking 20 feet from a cross walk. That applies everywhere in California, This story did have one bit of good news, as an ex-San Franciscan who flourished and greatly enjoyed the city for 45 years, leaving right before Covid in search of warm weather for my retirement,. San Francisco's population, on the decline since the Covid hysteria, grew last year. People are heading back, as I knew they would.

When new developments were built, they were not allowed to have even one spot per unit (knowing that there would be multiple cars per unit). I think the last development I knew of was 67% parking--so for a hundred units, only 67 parking spots were allowed. Where did everyone else park? On the street, pushing out homeowners who also needed to park on the street. I'd blame the government, but people keep putting them back in office. Those of us with any smarts (ahem) left.

I didn't know there had ever been parking spaces in SF. Decades ago good friend/an executive parked his car in a garage just outside the City for travel elsewhere and rode a motorcycle in SF. For travel within the City cabs were cheaper than parking one's own car.

PS. Most native and longtime Californians view SF as one would view a foreign country.
