Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement in Germany after sustaining injuries during a trip to Luxembourg, a spokesperson said on Saturday. [Snip] "Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg for their excellent care and kindness. Speaker Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans," Krager added. The former speaker was taken by MEDEVAC to Landstuhl, Germany, a Defense official told NBC News, after Pelosi was injured Friday while on an official congressional trip to Luxembourg.

I understand the thing that Nancy is most upset about right now is that she won’t be able to dance at President Trump’s Inaugural Ball next month.
Poor Nancy 🙁

Hip replacement sounds awful and probably is. But, it is a standard medical procedure. Hope she gets a Get Well Card from President Trump.

So now she doesn't have only an artificial face, she has an artificial hip. Please stop with these replacements. Plastic lives for a long time.

Hip replacement is not an "illness" but only a temporary condition, unless one is an ultimate drama queen/king. My hubby got a hip replacement at 89 years of age, and kept walking and dancing until his time was up. The WWII generation was made of sterner stuff, apparently.

Yeah, that was my guess yesterday, that a hip replacement may be a faster route to walking than waiting for the bone to heal.
If you saw the shoes she was wearing....geez, what a stupid choice. High heels with a tiny bit of shoe over the toe, literally no shoe at all on the sides, just a foot on top of it. Zero lateral stability. Life is all about choices. At her age (any age?) those are a bad choice for shoes.

FTA: 'One of the oldest members of the House, Pelosi stepped down from her speakership position in 2022, ushering in a wave of generational change among the party's leadership.' That's NBC for you; they make it sound like it was voluntary. She just stepped aside to let someone else do the job.

Re #3. I've had a knee replacement and a college roommate has had two hip replacements. From talking to him, you are up and walking at least reasonably well very quickly from a hip replacement. I did very well with my knee, but PT folks tell my that my experience was better than usual with the knee (great doc) and usually hips are easier recovery.

She's 84 years old. This was a hip replacement due to trauma - it's not the same as an uninjured person getting a new hip. You're not supposed to fly for six weeks after a hip replacement; how is she going to get home? Once she leaves the hospital, she'll be in physical therapy three times a week for about eight weeks. It remains to be seen if she'll walk again; if she does, she'll have a big cane and move slowly.
One out of three people over 50 who fall and break a hip are dead within a year. She may not be around much longer.

Re #14, my college roommate, 71 for his second hip replacement, was walking the next day with a cane. About 3 weeks later we met in England for a vintage racing event, he was walking well....easily as well as my new knee, done just about a week or two ahead of his hip.
My doc told me to wear compression stockings and get up and walk for a couple of minutes every hour. I got hassled a bit by the flight attendants for going from the first class cabin to the back of the plane, but I told them I had to walk for medical reasons, they backed off. Apparently first class isn't supposed to go into the back of the plane. I have no idea why.

An online orthopedic surgery source says "a few weeks" walking with a walker, then transition to a cane after hip replacement. As vain as this old buzzard is, we'll never see her with a walker or cane, my bet.

Wow, good thing she has better insurance that we are allowed to have. Betcha she didn't have to wait for pre approval. And to have it doe so quickly, taking away from department of defense resources to do it.

If she makes it through the surgery, which is not a given at her age, she needs to RETIRE already!

It sounds like the hip was shattered, not broken. I hope it wasn't too painful.

I’ve had both hips replaced and it was not the least bit painful. I was walking without assistance within two days.

Medical technology continues to move forward rapidly. My sister had a hip replacement as on outpatient and was walking fine after physical therapy.

From the article I noticed her surgery was done at the US military base at Landstuhl. Why not use the wonderful socialist medicine in Europe. Would have only taken about 3 years for her to be seen.
