French President Emmanuel Macron hailed the “sublime” rebuild of the magnificent 12th-century gothic Notre Dame de Paris cathedral as he toured it before reopening on Friday.
Notre Dame de Paris will reopen on December 7th, in time for Christmas, some five years and eight months after it was tragically gutted by fire, burning out the roof and bringing down its magnificent timber and lead spire. French President Emmanuel Macron, who has somewhat tied himself politically to the rebuild — having promised to have it done in five years shortly after the blaze — made a final site visit to the church on Friday

The concern about the man walking around the cathedral just before the fire isn't important anymore.

And weren't some of the important items already removed from the church? I thought I read that somewhere.

Why was Moochelle sipping champagne and watching it burn from a boat on the Seine?

We have been to Notre Dame several times, starting in the early 1970s, and most recently a tour of the bell tower and roof in the 2015-ish time frame, which took us through the roof area, where we saw the giant oak beams that supported the roof, and which eventually burned.
So happy to see it back in good condition. We once enjoyed a practice session with the magnificent organ, and the acoustics of the great cathedral were truly breathtaking.

Wasn't there some talk of turning it into a multireligious place of worship including Islam? I guess they came to their senses.

Yes, but do the French go to church? That's my inconvenient question.

It's truly amazing what a mere cleaning can do in these ancient cathedrals. We first visited the cathedral at Chartre in 1970, after studying about it in college. It was built in 1145 and the interior has been lit with various candles, whale oil lamps and similar smoky light sources for almost 900 years. In the last decade or so, there has been a project to clean the interior stonework, ceilings and some of the sculptures. Some of the 'old timers' have been throwing a hissy fit as they see the "character of the cathedral being destroyed"....by clearing off a layer of nasty black grime. And the results are magnificent! The cleaned areas just pop, and the architectural beauty of the stone ceiling vaults and the details of the sculptures are now so much clearer.
My wife said "If the makers could have visited in the 1980s they would have been very upset and said "Why haven't you people taken care of the beautiful cathedral we built? You have let it get so filthy, dark and run down!' "
I agreed. But today, the cleaning is showing the beauty that was so long hidden under black grime.
And the same with Notre Dame. The newly cleaned and repaired areas are so much brighter and the art and architectural details are so much more visible. It's wonderful.
And also, when we visited Chartre in 2019, there just happened to be a British choir group visiting, made up of what appeared to be 10-12 year old kids. They were singing just beautifully and the old cathedral's wonderful acoustics just made their angelic young voices sound so much more amazing. We had planned a short stop, and to push on to Paris, but wound up spending a bunch of extra time just enjoying the choir singing in that magnificent setting. I recorded some of it on video, and it's wonderful.

#7 Notre Dame is an historical landmark and gives testimony to man's talents of a thousand years ago as well as devotion to God. whether the French worship there or not is of little consequence. as for the renovations, they are stunning - although i could do without the modern touches of those ugly chairs and one or two of the futuristic altars.

I am a great believer in signs and wonders, and Our Lady's Cathedral being rebuilt at this time, is a wonderful sign of good things to come for us all. Thank you, God.

Beautifully done and a credit to the restorers. However, I think it was done less for religious or aesthetic reasons but, to keep the tourists and their money flooding into Paris.

There's a purpose to everything under heaven...and the new face at Notre Dame works for me...as WE face a new phase in our lives....with President Trump leading the way....I recall and ole shaman...no eyes... saying 20 years ago...there would be turmoil and many deaths before the coming of the Phoenix rising....get ready folks...I think the Phoenix is flapping his wings ...ready to take off....and the world is anxiously awaiting the ascent!!

FTA: “we do not know where the fire started, because there are not enough personnel to monitor the cathedral. I actually think that we have not given ourselves the means to avoid it”
Seems like surveillance cameras, saving images to a remote server, would be something even Notre Dame could afford, and would provide the needed security...????
