French company TotalEnergies has halted development of its planned offshore wind farm off the coast of New York following the victory of president-elect Donald Trump, who has vowed to kill such projects on day one of his second term. “In offshore wind, I decided to put the project on pause, because all the offshore wind projects are in Democratic states . . . we’ll see better in four years,” TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne said at an energy industry conference in London on Tuesday, according to Bloomberg News. “The advantage is that it’s only for four years.” The chief executive indicates that the energy firm could potentially revive

I'll believe it when I see it. Not that the situation doesn't call for a rational change of tactics and strategy for a proxy army that has wrought utter destruction upon itself and now has no allies worth relying on any longer. That's precisely the situation in which Hamas and what's left of its leadership finds itself. After Iran cut bait in Lebanon, this makes all sorts of sense, but Hamas has rarely acted rationally except in pursuit of total genocide of the Jews: One proposal discussed by some Hamas leaders would permit Israel to maintain a presence — at least temporarily — in the border region between Egypt and Gaza,

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has been communicating with President-elect Donald Trump in recent months through secret back channels, helping Trump and his team hammer out a policy agenda before and since his decisive win, according to an exclusive report from The New York Post. Four sources close to Trump's transition team told The Post that Dimon has acted as “a sounding board” for the incoming president's economic manifesto. First, a bit about Dimon. The 68-year-old who, like Trump, grew up in Queens, New York, has an estimated net worth of $2.6 billion. He has been the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JPMorgan Chase

More than 165 international constitutions include gender equality, and ours should, too. In January 2020, Virginia ratified the Equal Rights Amendment, becoming the final state needed to add about 170 million women and girls to our Constitution. All constitutional requirements have been met, according to the American Bar Association. And yet. For the past four years, America has been in a constitutional crisis. In 2020, for the first time in our nation’s history, publication of a fully ratified amendment was stopped by the executive branch. Why is the ratified ERA still not added to the Constitution?

French President Emmanuel Macron hailed the “sublime” rebuild of the magnificent 12th-century gothic Notre Dame de Paris cathedral as he toured it before reopening on Friday. Notre Dame de Paris will reopen on December 7th, in time for Christmas, some five years and eight months after it was tragically gutted by fire, burning out the roof and bringing down its magnificent timber and lead spire. French President Emmanuel Macron, who has somewhat tied himself politically to the rebuild — having promised to have it done in five years shortly after the blaze — made a final site visit to the church on Friday

England and Wales edged closer to legalizing assisted dying after lawmakers approved a contentious bill in the House of Commons on Friday to allow terminally ill adults to end their lives. Lawmakers voted 330 to 275 in Britain’s lower house for the assisted dying bill, which will now be sent on to further scrutiny in Parliament before it faces a final vote by lawmakers. The proposed bill would allow people over 18 with less than six months to live to request and be provided with help to end their lives, subject to safeguards and protections. The vote came after hours of emotional debate that saw personal stories of loss and suffering shared.

The successful launch of India’s first long-range hypersonic missile and the first test of the 3,500km K-4 nuclear-capable ballistic missile from a submarine have put the spotlight on the country’s growing prowess in indigenously developing advanced weapon systems to strengthen the military’s capabilities. This includes achievements ranging from successfully testing the second phase of India’s ballistic missile defence system to developing the Agni-5 missile with multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicle (MIRV) technology, and from the first anti-radiation missile Rudram to the supersonic missile-assisted release of torpedo (SMART) system to target submarines at long ranges, officials aware of the matter said on Thursday.

Wednesday’s complaint filed in the federal court in Tyler, Texas, is among the highest profile lawsuits targeting efforts to promote environmental, social and governance goals, or ESG. The defendants were accused of exploiting their market power and involvement in climate advocacy groups to pressure coal companies to slash output and reduce carbon emissions from coal by more than 50% by 2030, driving up consumers’ utility bills.

A Chinese commercial ship is suspected of deliberately dragging its anchor to cut undersea cables that connect countries over the internet, The Wall Street Journal reports. International investigators reportedly believe the crew aboard Yi Peng 3, a bulk carrier full of Russian fertilizer, dragged its anchor for more than 100 miles across the Baltic seabed, damaging the cables that run across it. Two different internet links — one between Sweden’s Gotland Island and Lithuania, and another between Finland and Germany — stopped working earlier this month, prompting the investigation by authorities from all four countries and other nations, according to the Journal.

One of the best things President-elect Trump has initiated is the Department of Government Efficiency - the DOGE. Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are preparing to let the DOGE off the leash, and if a recent X post from Elon is any indication, the DOGE may be taking a bite out of Senator Elizabeth Warren's brainchild, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB.) That seems a good idea; the federal government is massively feather-bedded, and we got along just fine without the CFPB until 2011; it seems we could get along without it again. California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a list of suggestions Nov. 26 for shoppers to avoid scams during the holiday season and requested consumers file reports about department stores that lack gender-neutral children’s sections. State law, established by the passage of Assembly Bill 1084 in 2021, which took effect at the beginning of 2024, requires department stores with at least 500 employees across California locations to offer children’s sections that do not separate items based on gender. “By requiring large retailers to maintain a gender-neutral section, AB 1084 makes it more difficult for these retailers to engage in gender-based pricing discrimination and reduces the imposition of gender stereotypes on children,”

Emo is a township of about 1,300 people located in the far west of Ontario, along the border with Minnesota. In a decision handed down last week, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario ruled that Emo, its mayor and two of its councillors had violated the Ontario Human Rights Code by refusing to proclaim June as “Pride Month.” The town was also cited for failing to fly “an LGBTQ2 rainbow flag,” despite the fact that they don’t have an official flag pole.
