Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination as Donald Trump's attorney general amid a report alleging he had a threesome with one minor and one adult.
Gaetz announced his shocking decision on social media.
'I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback - and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance,' he wrote on X.

Matt Gaetz quit his House position. He's not going away. There is an easier path through the district attorney appointment process that carries the same power but under the radar. The chess match begins.

CNN notifies that they are running a story...from illegally leaked Congressional ethics committee testimony documents... that the 17yo claimed there was a 2nd encounter at the same party, with another adult prostitute..., the adult gave testimony to the SAME committee saying it never happened.

If they weren't willing to go for broke, demand release of ALL of the files, AND call out the hypocrites sitting in judgement, then this was a colossal waste of time/political capital and optics.

Now we know why Graham was so gracious yesterday. He knew taking a stand wouldn't cost him anything.
Its easy to see why he and McCain were such buds. Equally reprehensible.

Hmm. He resigned from the House. This seems to be a disaster, but perhaps there is something going on here.

I agree with #4. Every time our side caves, unwilling to go all the way, Deep State tactics win and are encouraged to do more of the same. This is tragic and I am buying none of the excuses. If Senate meetings went so well, then WHY did you pull out, Matt?

It won't matter who Trump's next pick is, loony liberals and dems will be against them. Dems agenda is to block, hamper, hinder Trump at his every step.

Part of the Plan? Gaetz gets out of scrutiny and DJT gets to pick another conservative.

Oh my! Congressmen having sex. With women. What's the world coming to? Am starting to like RFK, Jr. But if his sex history is fair game he couldn't get confirmed as a Home Room Monitor.

How about nominating Mark Levin. Let's see the deep state heads spin with that nomination.

I think this whole nomination was an elaborate plan. First Gaetz was just reelected. Trump nominates Gaetz knowing heads would explode. There is nothing to the allegations but Gaetz resigns to avoid distractions. Rubio is appointed Sec State. DeSantis now has an appointment to make. Gaetz will be the next senator from Florida. Epic explosion of heads follows.

I can say it now. Gaetz is not a good person. He is a man of low character and he is full of himself. He may have the right idea about the need to cleanup the DOJ but he would have been more disruptive than it's worth.

I think enough Senators told Gaetz and Vance yesterday that there were not nearly enough votes for confirmation, and Matt did the only sensible thing.

Ken Paxton, AG of Texas, is the perfect candidate for this job. And he may have been intended from the start, with Gaetz used as a stalking horse to see where the fire was coming from.

Re #13 - even if Gaetz was of the highest moral calibre, the Left would still do all they could to destroy his nomination (and him professionally and personally) just as they tried with Kavanaugh.

One thing didn't change on Nov 5: Mere allegations are enough for the MSM to harass Republicans out of office or off from nominations, while convictions of Democrats are routinely dismissed or even ignored by the same media.

I think Gaetz is an edgy person. That is, he is bold, pushes boundaries, and may even be somewhat reckless. When The Turtle and RINO Collins say they think he made the right move, you can be sure it was a Deep State pat on the back. Yes, it would have been a messy battle. So was the battle to get Kavanaugh confirmed for the SCOTUS and after he was approved, all the flimsy, fake accusations faded away. Would that happen with Gaetz? Probably, but Gaetz was right, a long battle is not what is needed, even if he eventually was confirmed.

The mistake was the ongoing whispers about recess appointments. Heck Gaetz might still be appointed, but he would make a fine Senator from the State of Florida, heard they need one.

Republicans are not allowed an AG. Democrats and Rino's will see to that. We have had Jeff Sessions, who recused, and never did the job, leaving a Democrat as acting AG. Then, we had Bill Barr, who promised to deliver next quarter on every Sunday talk show, but never did. Now, Gaetz is eliminated without even starting the confirmation process. Who will we get now? Some mediocre Congressman or Deep State nobody, who will protect the institution, code for not doing anything. The Republicans can be counted on to be mice and not men.

I would like to see Gaetz come in to the DOJ later in a position that doesn't require senate approval so that he can work with the Attorney General to purge the deep state from the FBI/DOJ. It's probably best that Gaetz withdrew since RINOs hate him and several GOP senators were already voicing their opposition in a thin GOP majority.

Trump can fire any or all US Attorneys if he felt like it. Have Gaetz be an US Attorney of New York or DC? And investigate the lawfare?

Washington did not want Gaetz and found a way to make him resign. Is Gaetz guilty of something? Probably, and the Senate has no high moral horse to climb upon.

Sex trafficking? Are you flipping kidding me?? The US is the largest consumer of child sex trafficking in the world. Know where those poor children are shipped? Hollywood and Washington DC. You want to play this game, Congress? Let’s do it.

There's no elaborate plan. This is a loss. Same ole same oh. You can't drain the swamp by giving them water. I'm so sick of this. The swamp is responsible for sex trafficking in spades, and Matt folds after accusations of one incident. What the heck? Put us and the administration through it. Some of US can take it. Now you muddy the waters; they can say they're all bad. Business as usual.

This was a miscalculation on both Gaetz part as well as Trump. Gaetz wad MAGA and a pitbull but he was'off the charts'' toxic. I said last werrk he was a twofer. Not only was he not going to be the AG but but not in the Congress

# 13 - Biden showered with his teen age daughter. Biden is constantly pawing and sniffing little girls, in public. Clinton had sex in the Oval Office while on the phone with senators about sending American soldiers to war. Ted Kennedy let Mary Jo Kopechne (sp) die, when he could have saved her, because he knew if he were found to have had her in the car with him (and rumor was she was pregnant) he wouldn't ever be president. His words. So you were saying.............

They will concentrate on getting rid of Pete Hegseth now.
They should not be engaged in the press where every denial can be used to embellish more and more outrageous lies. Let the press & accusers talk among themselves. Don’t give them anything to twist and feed their attacks. Interesting that it’s always accusations about sexual activity that supposedly happened years ago. Wait and confront the accusations under oath at the confirmation hearing.
Maybe there is strategy behind putting these people out there this soon. I know for certain that some of them are going to be viciously and relentlessly attacked publicly, as we have seen. I just think it’s better to stand your ground, & hold yourself above it as well as you can until it can be dealt with at a proper time and place. Let others report the facts. Kudos and thank you’s to those who have done that.
I agree that the meetings Matt Gaetz had with Republicans probably indicated to him that he didn’t have enough support to make sticking with it worth what he and his family were going through. That is what sickens me most about some of the Republicans in power. I always wonder if the reason why some of them aren’t openly attacked themselves is because they acquiesce privately when threatened. But, maybe they are actually the same as their Democrat colleagues, after all. Some of them obviously are. It seems they always end up doing more for Dems than for US in the long run. That’s why it’s imperative that We unite and stand strong together.
I pray for our reliance on God’s guidance and protection throughout this effort to MAGA. We cannot do it without Him.
