Los Angeles County voters have chosen to pass Measure A, which will raise sales taxes by a quarter of a percent to fund homeless services. The referendum, which seemed in doubt until recently, passed with 57% support. CalMatters.org reported (original emphasis): Measure A, which is leading in the ballots counted thus far, would end the county’s existing quarter-cent sales tax for homelessness that was scheduled to expire in 2027 and replace it with a half-cent tax that would begin immediately and continue in perpetuity. That new tax is expected to raise $1 billion a year, and since it has no sunset,

Comments:

The voters have spoken. The last tax increase didn't fix it, so raise taxes some more.

Years ago I heard a speaker say, "When a car driver is going the wrong direction the last thing you want to do is give them more gas!" The taxpayers just voted to give the city more gas and told them to speed up. LA sales tax is already 9.5% to 10.25%! I bet many already pay more in sales tax than state and federal income tax. Sales tax is regressive. It hits the poorer people hardest.

Same as in Portland, it doesn't much fund homeless services; it mostly funds Democrat, homeless-services "providers." Lots of beach homes and tropical vacations purchased with the money shoved at providers.

Excluding the City of LA, there are 80+ incorporated municipalities spread around the county, from Agoura Hills to Whittier - some of which are quite nice and operate with fiscal and managerial sanity. You would have to be a duped fool not to sell your house and relocate a couple of miles down the street and into one of them.

Gunfire erupted on Tuskegee University’s campus as the streets were filled with students, alumni and community members celebrating the school’s 100th homecoming. Videos shared on social media show rapid-fire shots ringing out as terrified attendees hide crouched on the ground behind cars. Police responded to a shots fired call at 1200 West Montgomery Road, West Commons, one of the school’s apartment complexes. The victim was identified as a “non-university individual,” the university told The Post.

The white-haired woman was casting her ballot early at a firehouse in Hamilton Township, about five miles east of Trenton, on Oct. 26 when a poll worker asked her to take her pro-Trump hat off and get a jacket from her car to cover her shirt. Jill Moyer, the Mercer County Board of Elections chairperson, tried to tell the woman she would hold her place in line.
