The editor of the Los Angeles Times opinion section has resigned from her post after the newspaper’s owner prevented the editorial board from endorsing a candidate for president. Mariel Garza, editor of the illustrious newspaper’s editorials, resigned in protest of the decision by Patrick Soon-Shiong, owner of the Times, to block the editorial staff from endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. “I am resigning because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with us being silent,” Garza told the Columbia Journalism Review in a phone interview with her former colleague Sewell Chan. “In dangerous times, honest people

All of these alleged editors and journalists always seem to forget that the ultimate editor and editorial decisions come from the person who signs their paychecks: the owner. The owner exercised his editorial powers to endorsement nobody in the Presidential election. He should have taken action sooner to stop the editorial Trump bashing also .

Only a low info halfwit would look for voting guidance from a newspaper - or any other media source. They are way overestimating their own importance. If you are the owner you have risked your money and you get to call the shots. This is a little known capitalist reality in the liberal world.

Though relatively rare, there was precedent. On several prior occasions, the LAT has declined to endorse major candidates on the basis that its readers already have sufficient knowledge of the person or subject matter. A newspaper is not a democratic institution. Writers report to editors, who report to publishers. Having long ago served as the editorial page director of a major university daily, I could understand her quitting before following an order to endorse a particular candidate in violation of conscience, but that was not the case. At the end of the day, the publisher decides whether the paper will comment.

But, the 538 founder added, if people press him to give an answer on who is favored, he will say Trump. “My

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are deadlocked in the latest national NBC News poll, with Trump bolstered by Republicans coming back home to support him after last month’s rough debate and a subsequent polling deficit, as well as by a favorable voter assessment of Trump’s term as president. These are among the findings of a new survey released three weeks before Election Day, which also shows Harris’ popularity declining compared to a month ago, after she got a big summertime boost; a massive gender gap between support for Harris and Trump; and voters viewing abortion as
