In a recent and now widely seen Tucker Carlson interview, a guest historian named Darryl Cooper casually presented a surprising number of flawed theories about World War II. He focused his misstatements on the respective roles of Winston Churchill’s Britain and Adolf Hitler’s Germany—especially in matters of the treatment and fate of Russian prisoners, the Holocaust, the systematic slaughtering of Jews, strategic bombing, and the nature of Winston Churchill. Because of the size of the audience Carlson introduced him to, and because of the gravity of Cooper’s falsehoods, his assertions deserve a response.

Well done by VDH. It is foolish to try and rewrite your own history when in earshot of Victor David Hansen.

Reading VDH is never a waste of time.
This concise review of the stupefying magnitude and savagery of World War II is a vital antidote to the natural inclination to rewrite and paper over events and policies that overwhelm reason and morality.

I didn't see the interview. Did Carlson buy into Cooper's version?

Completely agree with Victor on this matter. Historical Revisionism is usually the first step of a new wave of such atrocity. Check who funds Darryl Cooper's lectures. Russia is equally guilty. Hitler may have plotted to backstab his ally, but for Russia, especially under the Communists, this was SOP. Nazism was birthed from Communism, and both were reinforced by the writings of American and European Elites who were enamored of Eugenics and a world "rid of the superstitions of religion". Marx was an open Satanist, who may have believed he WAS Satan.
If the West was responsible for WWII or even WWI, for that matter, it was because of Liberal Elites poisoning the minds of Elite wannabes through their abhorrent philosophies.

I have not seen the Cooper interview by Tucker, just some snippets of aghast reactions on other sites. But, if Cooper was espousing falsehoods without push back from Tucker, then Tucker needs to get VDH on his platform to allow VDH to state his measured and intelligent reaction to Cooper's blathering.
I have read VDH's writings and book on WWII, and each is brilliant. Thanks VDH.

I absolutely agree with reply #6. If Carlson wants to retain so much as a soupcon of credibility after his disastrous and sycophantic Cooper interview, he absolutely needs to host a 'counterpoint' interview with Hanson, or he risks being written off as a crank.

I am deeply into VDH’s book ‘The Second World Wars’. I suggest Cooper and Carlson read it before further comment on WW2.

It appears that Tucker, unfortunately, has jumped the shark . . . getting more into weird conspiracy theories these days.

Careful, #10. If experience has shown us anything—especially these last three years—today’s “conspiracy theory” is tomorrow’s “I told you so.”

I wonder how many people born after 1980 have any sense of the monumental history that is WW2. I remember when Dole - a WW2 veteran - was still on the political scene and Clinton, born after WW2, was a newcomer, how Clinton thought that "World War 2 stuff" was so anachronistic for the times.
I wonder what currents - both of human natural and societal-geographic - predating WW2 are still at play, and what role whoever runs the US sees the US as having. Big Bidet was born in 1942, Trump in 1946. I can't believe that whoever runs this country believes in the wokeisms other than as a screen behind which to accomplish something nefarious, ie, a war type psyops.

A well-written rebuttal. The old saying, "In a war, truth is the first casualty" applies.
Don't know Carlson's heart. Sometimes, the bizarre sells.
FOX is about ratings, just like all other networks.

In a free society, it is never wrong to have the free exchange of ideas and theories and the orthodoxy can be very wrong as we have seen time and time again in countless wars. That said, when VDH literally waits less than 24 hours to rebut your entire premise and relay the documented facts, maybe you should reconsider your career choices.

Tucker was stupid to give a lunatic revisionist history jerk such a large audience.
Such nutballs exist, but we shouldn't pay attention to their falsehoods.
Thanks to VDH for correcting the record.

God bless VDH. This answers the call devoid of emotion. The smearing of the great Churchill made my blood boil. What a revisionist scum*bag this dude was. Shame on Tucker Carlson.

VDH is usually insightful and clear. That's why I tend to consider him a worthwhile read.
In this post, though, we have Cooper analyzing conventional history of WWII, Carlson analyzing Cooper's work, and VDH analyzing the whole thing (with focus on analyzing Carlson's work). With several layers of analysis, it's so necessary to be clear about who made what claim and what claim is true or false. Or the potential for double / triple negatives leave my head a little dizzy. I feel like I won't understand what VDH has said here, until I study more WWII history, then study Cooper's critique of that, and then watch Carlson's evaluation of that.
Case in point from the start: "It is simply not true, as Cooper alleges, that Hitler’s Wehrmacht was completely surprised"
Did Cooper allege the Wehrmacht was surprised? Or that the surprise claim is simply not true? I'll have to come back to this when I have more time.

I have always believed that fdr goaded japan into attacking us, so he could get us into the war and end the depression that he had not been able to with his leftwing lunatic policies.
