Mattel is adding a more diverse selection of Barbie dolls to its latest collection. [SNIP] “We recognize that Barbie is much more than just a doll; she represents self-expression and can create a sense of belonging," said Krista Berger, senior vice president of Barbie and global head of dolls, in a press release. “We proudly introduce a new blind Barbie doll and Black doll with Down syndrome to our Barbie Fashionistas line, reinforcing our commitment to creating products that represent global belonging and inclusivity in the doll aisle.”

#1 has a great reply, and certainly gave me a chuckle. It occurs to me, though, that it'll be woke parents buying these for their unwilling offspring because, you know, they need to brought up to think "inclusive". Most of these toys will subsequently wind up in the back of the kids' closets or the trash, because normal kids are smarter than woke adults.

This is from the Babylon Bee, right??? That's also what I thought when I saw that story about the baseball Orioles having their team name and players names in braille on their jerseys one series.

No, Krista, it’s a doll. It’s a fashion doll. Little girls play with Barbie to change her outfits, not because they want to identify with being obese or transgender. The only people who buy these stupid social justice Barbies are woke moms, trying to indoctrinate their little Whole Foods children.

I was wondering along that line, #5, But I was wondering if the Black Barbie with Downs Syndrome was also a lesbian. You know, I remember as a child, Santa brought me one of the very first Barbies. I believe it was around 1959.I always had good memories of that Christmas, until I read somewhere that the original Barbie (with pony tail and swim suit) is now worth more money than most of us have!

DEI Barbie.
I'm with #1, 3 and 15.
Possibly a future collector's item, as I would guess they'll be pretty rare rather shortly.

Kids play with dolls for fun, pretend imagination and fantasy. Kids don't have handicapped fantasies. Beyond a non-market sustaining specific audience, and collectors - won't be around long. It's not that we don't like handicapped people, but that'll be the woke take.

#16 has the correct take. Collectors have to have every one so this increases sales. Its not woke, being blind or Down syndrome are real things unlike woke conditions.

#15, correct. I’m a Boomer and got my first Barbie in 1964 - and several more over the years. All we girls (no, my brothers didn’t want to play with my dolls) wanted to do was change their outfits and make up stories. We didn’t even know from “inclusivity”.
