The Libertarian Party on Sunday nominated party activist Chase Oliver for president, rejecting former President Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after they each spoke at the party’s convention.
Third parties have rarely been competitive in U.S. presidential elections and the Libertarian candidate four years ago won 1% of the vote. But the party’s decision is getting more attention this year due to the rematch between Trump and Democratic President Joe Biden, which could hinge again on small vote margins in a handful of contested states.
“We did it! I am officially the presidential nominee,” Oliver posted Sunday on X, formerly Twitter. “It’s time to unify and move forward for liberty.”

There are some parts of the Libertarian platform I agree with. But siding with Hamas will isolate them from most conservatives. They have nowhere to go from there.

Unfortunately a bunch of freaks took over the Libertarian party years ago. Now they're just embarrassing and no sane person wants to be in their party.

Will they even get to 3% this year? I doubt it.

Not a serious party. Not so much libertarian as egotarian ("I want to be free to do whatever I want to do" is their real motto.) 3%? They'll be lucky to get 1%.

As bad as this country needs a real third party the Libertarians just doesn't cut the mustard.
They are pretty much a joke.

They could have just nominated a rock. It would have just as much name recognition and chance of winning as this person.

Go ahead, Ass Press, yuk it up that the insignificant Libertarian Party didn't nominate President Trump as their candidate. And they didn't nominate Leftist pretender RFK Jr either.
I doubt the Libertarians had any interest at all in pedo FJB, and instead nominated a gay man

He’s in favor of ranked choice voting. That alone is sufficient reason to oppose him.

Once a 1% party, always a 1% party.
Oliver is no more a "libertatian" than Barack Øbama is. Oh...wait...Oliver is so attached to Øbama he knows had for lunch yesterday.

I like the idea of people being left alone to go to Hell in their own way without government interference. Nothing about my personal life is any of the governments business. Not to ban, not to regulate, not to tax.
The idea got some good traction back in 1776 but not so much now. People are happy in their servitude. Bringing high profile weirdos on board doesn't help.

They have made it a fringe group. When it has the potential not to be so. That is why Trump went there. Well, ignorance is curable. You can't help stupid!

It looks like the party has decided to go with under 1% this year. Trump will make this the worst year for the Libertarian Party ever.

Interesting that AP didn't mention that Chase Oliver is their first openly-gay presidential candidate.

Their loss. Either candidate would have been better than what they chose... Or even none of the above.
Libertarians have gotten decidedly odd, over the years.

I once thought Libertarianism, with its radical belief in individual rights, was the best alternative to either of the two halves of the Uniparty. But after this glimpse at their convention, I think they really are a bunch of loonys. Too bad.

Best of luck, Libertarians! From what I read and saw, Oliver will siphon a few votes from the Veg Head-in-Chief.

Yeah, making themselves irrelevant in the next election. Every election at this point. President Trump chased their vote as much as he should during their convention. Their booing was a plus for our side. Bye-bye, loonies.
