A couple was killed and numerous other people injured just hours into the New Year when a deranged man driving a car filled with explosives barreled into a crowd leaving a rock concert in upstate New York, police said. Law-enforcement sources initially reported that the crash was being investigated as possible domestic terrorism but said Tuesday there was no terror link. The fiery crash occurred at 12:50 a.m. outside the Kodak Center in Rochester, where roughly 1,000 people were filing out after a New Year’s Eve moe. show. Rochester officers were helping pedestrians cross the street when Michael Avery, a suspected bipolar man from Syracuse, sped his rented Ford Expedition

We used to put crazy people in locked institutions to protect us and them. Now we are far more advanced and let them kill and maim without any interference.

U.S. Should Destroy Fordow — but Only
If Israel Can’t

Israel's remarkable early success in its campaign against Iran has clearly won over President Trump, who has now taken to using the term “we” when discussing the operation. This has increased the debate over whether — and to what extent — the U.S. should join the effort. In under a week, Israel has achieved complete air supremacy, allowing its pilots to hit targets in Iran without fear of harassment. Though the conflict has taken a toll (Iran’s indiscriminate ballistic missile attacks have killed dozens of Israelis and injured hundreds more), the Iranian counterstrikes have not destroyed any significant strategic targets.

For political junkies who cut their teeth on “60 Minutes,” “Meet the Press,” CNN, and Fox News, longform podcasts were a godsend. Finally freed of commercial restraints and surface-level superficialities, longform podcasts took you beyond the talking points, treating audiences to a deep dive of a topic’s intricacies. Even when the podcast host had limited knowledge of the subject matter (Joe Rogan, I’m looking at you), the benefit of the longform platform was that it facilitated an open-ended, free-floating conversation where both sides learned more about the other. But there was an important catch: It only worked when both sides were acting in good faith.

Democratic strategist James Carville said Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “The Will Cain Show” that the “Democratic Party has been the most effective political party in the history of the world.” Host Will Cain said, “I think you’ve got a deeper problem in the way that the left is talking about America.” Carville said, “If I take everything that they all said, it wouldn’t amount to what Mike Lee said, who’s actually a United States Senator who actually said something very harmful and very hurtful and is not apologize for it. So, I mean, we can go on. I mean, I’m not here to defend Whoopi Goldberg.

I wrote here that I didn’t expect the Iran-Israel war to seriously divide MAGA, and that I thought the “anti-Israel/pacifist wing of the right” would prove to be “barely discernible.” This survey by J.L. Partners supports that view: * 58% of Republicans back U.S. military strikes on Iran, compared to just 25% opposed. * Among MAGA Republicans, support jumps to 65%, with just 19% against. This is higher than among self-described Traditional Republicans (51% support). Two striking things about these findings: 1) Most Republicans say they support U.S. military strikes on Iran, which so far are not on the table. And 2) MAGA Republicans are more likely to support
Democrats Now Begging to Be Arrested 6 replies

Democrats learned a lesson from Donald Trump's return to the White House: getting arrested is good politics. It's for good reasons that Americans recoil when prominent political figures are manhandled, put in handcuffs, or have their mugshot taken live on camera. We all love the idea of politicians in handcuffs or being thrown into jail, but we rightly expect that this will only happen if they commit crimes. Lawfare is incompatible with our values. Of course, Democrats engaged in a multi-year campaign of lawfare against Donald Trump and his associates, and it didn't work out so well for them. So, in an odd twist,

As we've been chronicling here at Hot Air for weeks, things have not been running very smoothly behind the scenes at the DNC. First there was the blowup over David Hogg's plan to primary some moderate Democrats. That eventually led to Hogg being unelected in a do-over vote (they claimed the initial vote violated the rules) but not before someone leaked an embarrassing tape of DNC Chair Ken Martin saying he was considering giving up on his job because of the conflict with Hogg. Not long after all of that drama made news, we learned that two union bigwigs, Randi Weingarten and Lee Saunders, were leaving their positions over disagreements

Donald Trump told senior aides late Tuesday that he approved attack plans for Iran. The development comes amid intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel,as both nations continue to exchange fire in what has become the region’s most volatile standoff in years. The president has however withheld a final order to see if Tehran would abandon its nuclear program, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing three people familiar with the deliberations. The Pentagon is providing options to the President as he decides next steps - but would not confirm whether the military was planning to assist with Israeli strikes.

President Donald Trump put a plan he had into place for a long time on Wednesday: flagpoles on the North and South Lawn of the White House. They're going to cost about $100,000 total, he said. He's paying for it as a gift to the country. Trump said he's always wondered why the White House didn't have "a flagpole from the grass." Trump came out to greet the workers. One of the workers thanked him for "bringing America back again." Trump spoke about the project and joked about how they were going to have a "lifting" or another word starting with an "E." He joked that

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Tennessee law restricting gender transition care for minors, delivering a major blow to transgender rights. The 6-3 ruling is likely to have a broad impact as 24 other states have already enacted laws similar to the one in Tennessee, which bars gender transition surgery, puberty blockers and hormone therapy for youth. The court was divided on ideological lines, with the six conservatives in the majority and the three liberals in dissent. Those laws now look set to survive similar legal challenges. The ruling does not affect states that do not have such bans

Border Patrol agents didn’t release a single migrant into the US last month — a staggering drop after the Biden administration allowed 62,000 illegal crossers in the country in May 2024, The Post can exclusively reveal. Agents caught 8,725 migrants crossing illegally at the southern border last month. That’s a 93% decrease from May 2024, when 117,905 were nabbed, according to internal data obtained by The Post. And acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Pete Flores said it’s a result of the Trump administration’s tough border policies. One of the most monumental policy changes made by Trump was the reversal of President Joe Biden’s catch-and-release scheme, which resulted in millions

If you don’t follow the press, you are uninformed, goes the old saw; if you do follow the press, you are misinformed. Nowadays you can actually be, you know, informed if you carefully follow the alternative press and social media. It’s a major reason why the organized left, the Democrats and the traditional media — but I repeat myself — have less traction today than they used to. My 2006 book “An Army of Davids” explored how citizen journalists revolutionized reporting on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and frustrated Dan Rather’s attempt to steal the 2004 election with forged records about George W. Bush and the Texas National Guard.

As President Donald Trump huddled with his top advisers in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday, U.S. officials signaled that the next 24 to 48 hours would be critical in determining whether a diplomatic solution with Iran is possible -- or if the president might resort to military action instead. Trump significantly ramped up his rhetoric against the Iranian regime ahead of the meeting, asserting that the U.S. knew exactly where Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was hiding. "He is an easy target, but is safe there -- We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers.

That's the stark warning from more than 60 of the world's leading climate scientists in the most up-to-date assessment of the state of global warming. Nearly 200 countries agreed to try to limit global temperature rises to 1.5C above levels of the late 1800s in a landmark agreement in 2015, with the aim of avoiding some of the worst impacts of climate change.

Carbon dioxide, we’ve been told over and again, is the enemy that must be subdued if we are to avoid catastrophic global warming. It is, however, a faulty premise. Physics, not politics, tells us that man’s CO2 emissions will not cause catastrophic climate change nor an increase in extreme weather. “The common belief that CO2 is the main driver of climate change and the EPA Endangerment Finding assertion that ‘elevated concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere may reasonably be anticipated’ to endanger the public health and welfare are scientifically false,” conclude the authors of a new paper.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Tennessee law that restricts access to gender-affirming care for minors experiencing gender dysphoria, clearing the way for the medical treatments for transgender youth to be limited in half of the country. The high court ruled 6-3 in rejecting the challenge from the Biden administration, three families and a physician who had argued that Tennessee's law violated the Constitution's guarantee of equal protection under the law. The court concluded that the state's measure, enacted in 2023, does not run afoul of the 14th Amendment.

Israel needs a 15-ton ‘bunker buster’ bomb to destroy the last untouched nuclear facility in Iran, but only the US has one. Such a powerful weapon – the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal – is needed because the target, Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, is built some 300 feet inside a mountain near the city of Qom, two hours south of Tehran. The heavyweight explosive is known as a GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator and was designed by Boeing for the United States Air Force. Its huge weight means it can only be delivered with a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber – a jet Israel’s air force does not possess.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared “the battle begins” in an ominous post Tuesday, hours after President Trump called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.” “In the name of #Haider, the battle begins. Ali returns to #Khaybar with his Zulfiqar.” Khamenei wrote on X in Farsi, referring to Islam’s first imam, Ali, who won the Battle of Khaybar with the sword Zulfiqar. Khamenei’s sinister message comes hours after the Islamic Republic’s state media also warned of a “surprise” on Tuesday night into Wednesday that the “world will remember for centuries.” The Israeli Defense Force reported multiple air raid sirens in northern Israel early Wednesday morning due to a “hostile aircraft infiltration.”
