Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott - fed up with apparent inaction from President Joe Biden on the current immigration crisis at the Southern border - has approved a sweeping new law that allows police to arrest migrants who illegally cross into the US.
The law will also give local judges the authority to order migrants to leave the country, as roughly 2,000 cross the border with Mexico every day.
The law, known as SB4, takes effect in March and allows any Texas law enforcement officer to arrest people who are suspected of entering the country illegally. Those who re-enter face penalties ranging from 180 days in jail to 20 years

Can't wait to see the Biden administration challenge this in court by saying that only the federal government has the power to enforce federal immigration laws. Abbott can simply respond "then why aren't you?"

Full marks for Gov Abbott, he is using Dem tactics against Dems and will eventually force the Supreme Court to rule on border security, or lack thereof. Keep it up.

Border crossings in the first two months of 2024 should be epic, since this new law doesn't start until March!

All these powers (and the obligation to enforce) are part of the routine governance of a sovereign constitutional republic. They apply to all fifty states and should not require special 'enactment'.

This should have been done by Texas and Arizona three years ago. Private business managers identify little problems before they become big problems and take care of them but government people wait until they have a crisis so they can "declare" things. Three years and fifteen million people later, somebody does something. If you sit in a governor's mansion or a mayor's office, it's too easy to ignore something until it really bites you.

Exactly #8. Governor Abbott will have some aging democrat senator from CA (now deceased) hold onto a letter from some aging Minnie Pearl looking mousey voiced liar who will say that he raped her at a college party. She won't be able to recall what she was wearing, who she was with, how she got there and what really happened. He will have all of the facts on his side right down to a calendar with his schedule posted daily. Right down to his bedtime. She of course will be believed because, you know women don't ever lie and we must believe them all no questions asked. He will be vilified, with the left wondering why his wife married a rapist with them wishing it would happen to his daughter. All because he rightly believes that as a sovereign nation, we have borders that must be protected from foreign invasion. Also make no mistake the illegal aliens swarming our southern border like locusts from places like Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Haiti, China and Afghanistan is an invasion.

The Governor seems to be a day late and a dollar short, as they say. Why now? What about the MILLIONS who came in and who taxpayers are taking care of, quite nicely, I understand. Automatic $5,000 payment plus all the other bennies.

Now that Governor Abbott has signed it into Texas Law, let's see what happens--

Show down with the feds. B.S., Biden is destroying every state in the country. 8 million illegals since he came into office. Over 450 billion dollars a year of taxpayer money to support those parasites. What every governor should be doing and should have done immediately was put them back on the bus and ship them right back to Mexico. That still has to happen for this country to survive. And where is congress on this. How is it that taxpayer funds are even being distributed to the organizations supporting those illegals. I thought it was the power of the purse. Pathetic.

Interesting approach to the situation...now the feds will take Texas to court and delay the procedure even further...it's all a political game to the government...and Obama doesn't like to lose his chance to thin out the white herd here in America....

#18, Texas legislature responsible for this but if Ron DeSantis were our Governor, this basic move would have been done nearly three YEARS ago. This all sounds good but we have to see how, when this translates into ACTION.

I agree with some posters here, why in the world would you wait 3 months to enact a law? They can empty Mexico, and all countries south by that time. But it reminds me of the Bible verse that says "When a nation turns its face from God, He will allow foreign lands to take it over." In regards to No.13 comments, it is going to be rather hard for that argument, seeing as how Gov. Abbot has been in a wheel chair for years.

Watch as soon as Texas law enforcement starts arresting and deporting illegal aliens as Biden and his leftist crew file for a restraining order in the Federal Courts claiming that Abbott and Texas are violating the migrants (illegal aliens) constitutional rights.

Typical Abbott: a day late and a dollar short (in this case, 90 days late). More theater; give the LEOs the power, but kick it down the road for THREE months, so that they will be so swamped and tied by litigation, nothing will get done. I'm sick of Abbott's tricks; he has had YEARS and YEARS to fix the problem and always puts a band-aid on it to spare himself the harsh criticism he deserves. He has already approved directives/laws in the books to stem the invasion, he parades them in front of media, then they die a quiet death. See, he's heavily supported by the chamber of commerce crowd that pushes for cheap labor. He doesn't give a rip about anyone living on the border, away from the border, or stomping into Texas at the border. Disgusting.

Several posters question why wait until March instead of doing this immediately. It is done this way because it is an actual law, not just an executive (dictatorial) order. The 90 days is to allow citizens to get informed on and adjust to new laws instead of being hit with consequences of a law suddenly being enforced.
The constitution is on Texas' side but the courts may or may not agree. The constitution gives the President the control over foreign affairs. States still have the right to form their own navy or armed forces to take care of security if the national government refuses to do so. Of course, constitutional rights are sort of like votes, who does he county, or judging, can screw it all up.

Clearly the object of the Biden “Open Borders” scheme and the fraudulent guise that essentially the entire Third World population consisting mainly of billions of poor and uneducated peoples who fit within the minority group categories favored by Democrat identity politics may individually be eligible for asylum in the USA, so that unlimited numbers of those people who unlawfully gain entry to the USA by way of the borderline must be allowed to stay in the USA until they are given the opportunity to apply for asylum in the USA courts, a process that takes many years to complete because those courts are now backlogged with millions of such asylum cases of which about 90% are finally denied after judges found those cases to be fraudulent or did not meet the lawful requirements for a grant of asylum in the USA. Common sense will tell you that Biden policy is ridiculous and has been created to permanently change the ethnic and racial population demographics of the USA to favor the leftist Democrats and provide them with what the leftist Democrats believe will be many millions many millions of new foreign born supporters and voters.
