Jeff Roe, longtime Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) consultant and chief architect of his flailing political operation, resigned Saturday from the super PAC charged with realizing the governor’s increasingly quixotic presidential aspirations.
Roe announced his departure hours after a damning Washington Post report on the collapse of Never Back Down (NBD), the super PAC Roe conceptualized to send DeSantis to the White House and usher in a new era of super PAC-driven presidential campaigns.

Interesting. So, Pencester, have you thrown in the towel, too?

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed with a politician. De Santis should have thrown his full support behind President Trump - - then completed his last two years as governor - - and THEN run for president in 2028 - - when he would still be only 49 years old.
He probably would have been a really good president - - following up on the success of President Trump. But egomania and blind ambition overcame his reasoning - - and he made an utter fool of himself in the process.

Maybe deep down he doesn’t really want to be president.

I remember all the DeSantis fanboys on this site; they wouldn't listen, they thought they were smarter than everybody else, and they inadvertently revealed their clandestine Trump hatred. What say you now?

IMHO If DeSantis would have waited and not listened to the Bushies he would have had a good shot in '28.

#2, you can place the blame squarely on his donors. DeSantis did as his donors wanted. What a waste of good talent. Thanks donors. But this is politics. Don't count him out of politics and a place in the Trump administration just yet.

His focus now should be to keep his ‘28 hopes alive. Any more opposition to Trump will not be forgiven by the rank and file

I wonder if the GOPe, including their "donors," realize that their day is past. A lot of us are not coming back. I held my nose in 2008 and 2012. Never again.
Maybe if they succeed in torpedoing Trump and their queen Nicki Haley gets her ass kicked.

In some ways, I can't blame DeSantis. He was a hot commodity after the 2022 elections and if the Republican electorate wanted to go some way other than Trump, he would be an excellent choice.
Learn his lessons in 2024 and get ready for 2028 is my advice.

When a ship is sinking, the smart sailors jump off early so as not to be pulled under by the sucking phenomenon as it goes down. Try again in four years.

Hubris will get you everytime. A wise man would have been able to read the room so to speak. He would have been his own man unable to be swayed by the vultures who fly around political talent. I hope he learned his lesson, but now I really don’t think very highly of him. He wasted all his cachet to feed his ego. Not too smart. If he can be convinced to act too soon, what else can he be convinced of? The what ifs are a killer. It will be interesting to see if he has learned his lesson or if he will continue to be influenced by political parasites.

romney mcdaniel doesn't care if Ron DeSantis stays in the race or not because
- her chips are on the Nikki Haley square and
- she is going to do everything she (and the rest of the semi-Republicans) can to derail our President's run in 2024
- it's as clear as spring water how the establishment Republicans do not want our President back in office

Ambition combined with impatience is dangerous. As many have posted, DeSantis should have supported Trump and he would have been rewarded in a way that would have had Trump supporting him in 2028. Getting into bed with the Bush/Chaney globalists was a serious misstep. I hope he recovers from this--if he endorses Trump as he announces his withdrawal from the contest, it would be a step in the right direction.

After this, especially comments associating him with the Bushes, why would we want DeSantis in 2028? As they say, I'm asking for a friend. Great governors don't always make great presidents. Remember Bush?

DeSantis took very bad advice and jumped into a race he had no hope of winning. He’s a great Governor and true conservative. In the next election he would have been a force to be reckoned with. He has lost a lot of respect and political capital with this folly. Perhaps in 4 years he can win it back.

I don't think anyone here has a substantive complaint with DeSantis. His only real "crime" was to seriously question the Donald's chances of being elected in 2024.For this he is to be denounced as an apostate and permanently exiled. A few posters here seem to know better, but most seem to think they can repudiate the best young talent we have and somehow come out ahead of the game.
This notion that DeSantis is somehow in bed with establishment forces is absurd. Just look at the man's record as governor.
So, go ahead and find encouragement in meaningless polls, and take delight in the pessimistic musings of David Axelrod & Co. When the smoke clears and Biden is trotted out to take the oath for the second time, have fun blaming everyone but yourselves.

Here's my take: Ron should've supported Trump, waited his turn and ascended. The fact he didn't wait-was swayed by Casey, or his donors, or Bushies, etc., likely disqualified him for the job. Maybe we are better knowing now?
