Misinformation is flowing ahead of Ohio
abortion vote. Some is coming from a legislative website

The following response to this article has been prompted by the oft-repeated perceptions of the liberal mind-set: “Rules for thee but not for me.” ~ Among claims asserted in one senator’s article are that the measure would “legalize abortion on demand at any stage of pregnancy " and allow for “THE DISMEMBERMENT OF FULLY CONSCIOUS CHILDREN.” “Issue 1 allows painful, late-term abortions through all nine months of pregnancy.” as well as a major loophole “allowing late-term abortions to protect the ‘health’ of the mother. The United States Supreme Court has interpreted ‘health’ to include not just a mother’s physical health, but also her mental, emotion, social and financial health, essentially permitting late-term abortion for any reason.” More than 60,000 abortions are performed annually “after 15 weeks WHEN AN UNBORN CHILD IS CAPABLE OF FEELING PAIN, and at least 10,000 are performed after 20 weeks.” ~ A featured snippet grabbed from the site that comes up during a Google search for Ohio Issue 1 says the measure “ignores Ohio’s existing exceptions for life and health of the mother in favor of establishing abortion on demand for all nine months.” See above response for abortion on demand. / “Emergency care for miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies is available in Ohio, and Issue 1 is not needed to ensure this care.” “Ohio abortion law contains an exception to protect the life of the mother. Section 2919.17 of the Ohio Revised Code states an abortion may be performed after 22 weeks if “[t]he abortion was necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman or a serious risk of the substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman.” / This news article reports: “Legal and medical experts consulted by The Associated Press have called these narratives false or misleading.” Reality Check: False or misleading narratives depends on facts, interpretation and understanding which, clearly, varies with an individual’s moral compass. ~ Another senator’s entry repeats without context a decades-old narrative that high rates of abortion among Black women are driven by an “evil” and “predatory” abortion industry. Whether an “evil” and “predatory” abortion industry exists, the reality is, “The national disparity in abortions is even more staggering. Overall, African-American women account for 36.4 percent of all pregnancy terminations in the United States, although blacks make up only 13 percent of the population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” ~ The proposed amendment expressly allows Ohio to regulate abortions once a fetus is viable outside the womb, as long as there are exceptions for the life or health of the woman. Ohio’s existing ban on most abortions once fetal cardiac activity is detected, now held up in court, has an exception for protecting the life of the woman as well as a more narrowly tailored health exception than Issue 1 contains. “The Heartbeat Bill is not currently in effect in Ohio as it is under a preliminary injunction. Instead, abortion is currently permitted in Ohio up to 22 weeks for any reason and abortion after 22 weeks is permitted to protect the life of the mother and to prevent “the substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman. Reminder: “After 15 weeks an unborn child is capable of feeling pain.” ~ Because the Ohio Senate is a government entity, supporters of the constitutional amendment worry that content posted to “On The Record” might be interpreted by voters as a source of objective information. Under Google’s search quality evaluator guidelines, government sites are generally given added weight on the grounds that they present trustworthy, verifiable, authoritative content in the interest of the common good. ... “My (Republican) colleagues say that this is done because the mainstream media won’t print their stuff. But of course, the mainstream media won’t pick this up because it’s factually incorrect and basically lies,” said Democratic state Sen. Bill DeMora, whose caucus was angered by the blog and its home on the Senate’s official page. The “On The Record” website includes the words editor, editorial(s), opinion(s) seven times; this AP news report, in the third paragraph, refers to the website as a blog thereby making the distinction that the website is just that, “opinion” of Republicans representing their side of debates that the mainstream media refuses to publish. The "Ape Pee" loves that "M" word, don't they. It's bad enough that politicians lie but the media lying on top of them confuses the public quite effectively.
