Interesting that an earlier story ran with two gunshot wounds - though it could be a through and through with a rifle cartridge. I can't help but remember ALL the people who were inconvenient to the government who met their ends with suspicious suicides, or, in the case of McVeigh, the OKC bomber, a speedy trial and swift execution unheard of anywhere else. Just saying that there is something mighty peculiar about this whole incident.

Looks like this could be a perfect "Manchurian Candidate"l operation. Things are going badly for FJB so they activate this poor loser to divert attention away from FJB's many screw ups. The bonus is they get to make a move to get guns out of the hands of honest citizens.

I was disappointed with the handling of this all by Maine officials. I thought the press conference last night was shameful, especially the governor who came across as a flake. Very odd behavior in a tragic situation. I am sure they were relieved but they came across as giddy when so many people were mourning. I think he should have been found earlier and the “raid” on his home Thursday night demonstrated their incompetence. Very disappointing.

This man was known to have mental illness, what was done to help him? He should have been committed. People are dead because he was certified crazy and turned loose on the world.

Obviously not much was done to help the perpetrator, who was a Sergeant First Class in the Army reserve with his mental situation, including claiming that he intended to destroy a U.S. military base, other than give him three hots and a cot for a couple of weeks after he was committed to a mental health facility for a mental health evaluation, and then put him out on the street probably with some sort of drug prescription. Under the current federal gun control laws people who have been committed to mental health facilities for treatment are considered to be prohibited from being able to purchase firearms. Clearly such a person if it is believed that he or she is a dangerous person, and possesses a firearm should come under the State level so-called “red flag” and “yellow flag” laws relating to the authorities potentially temporarily confiscating such a mentally ill person’s firearms and then possibly permanently after the person is granted due process. Apparently those Federal and State laws are neutered by the medical privacy HIPA laws that deter mental health professionals from coordinating with law enforcement. So far at the highest level of government in DC we have Biden and some Democrats popping up calling for banning just about all modern firearms from law abiding Americans across the USA, attempting to take political advantage of the criminal acts perpetrated by the obvious “nut job” in Maine. Remember that the next time you vote.

How convenient.

As horrific as the facts are, don't forget that all the media was gleefully reporting "at least 20 dead, and 50 to 60 wounded" in the first few hours. The media would far more rather be first than to be accurate. This tendency of the media to gleefully exaggerate murder and mayhem in these events is just disgusting. I'm thankful that it was fewer than they seemed to want.
