It took a few tries by Elon Musk yesterday afternoon for the Republican presidential field to officially firm up, even if it’s not necessarily complete. Ron DeSantis patiently waited for a series of technical failures to resolve before officially announcing his candidacy for the presidency, and delivered a short speech before fielding a Q&A with several figures. And while the rocky start no doubt frustrated DeSantis and Musk, the fact that well over 600,000 people simultaneously attempted to participate in the campaign launch speaks to a lot of interest in DeSantis, if not outright support. Dear Mr. Morrissey—Everyone on this site and probably most of your readers agree. Now all you have to do is to convince Mitch McConnell and The Undertakers (who stand behind him whenever Mitch makes a pronouncement) to move the Deep State/Swamp/RINOs to action.

Tim Scott’s keys to 2024: Iowa, evangelicals

Tim Scott’s announcement here Monday that he’s running for president came mere days before Ron DeSantis is expected to declare his own, far more ballyhooed campaign, joining Donald Trump in what has looked for months like a two-person race for the Republican nomination. Scott, polling in low single digits, is starting far behind. But in what’s likely to become an even wider field of longshot candidates, the South Carolina senator is plotting a path that many Republican donors and strategists consider credible if Trump or DeSantis falters. His campaign is powered by a sizable war chest and a record of electoral success in his home state

One of the tedious chores that must be performed by any conscientious member of the commentariat involves perusing America’s “newspaper of record.” Despite its dishonest reporting, the Times provides a useful preview of the spin that will be adopted by the corporate media on major news stories. To be fair, the Gray Lady does contain one section that offers some respite from an otherwise painful read. Its opinion page is a rich source of comic relief. A recent example is a thigh-slapper in which the editorial board asks, “Why Is George Santos Still in Office?”

The just-released Durham report confirmed that the FBI not only failed to corroborate the Steele dossier, Hillary Clinton’s oppo-doc against Donald Trump, but it regularly ignored existing, sometimes dispositive, evidence to keep the investigation alive. Some officials were credulous. Others were devious. But no one “stole” our democracy — other than perhaps intelligence officials and the journalists who helped feed the collective hysteria over Russia. John Brennan, Hamas-loving authoritarian and partisan propagandist, almost surely knew it was a con from the start. Yet he spent four years on television sounding like a deranged subreddit commenter.

For some reason, Illinois’ Democrat Gov. J.B. Pritzker – much like his California counterpart Gavin Newsom – thinks taking periodic swipes at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is a good idea.Unfortunately for both of them, DeSantis is usually able to knock them down with without breaking a sweat, exposing their two-faced nature in the process. That is exactly how things played out last Thursday and Friday after an obviously triggered Pritzker issued a buzzword-filled statement denouncing DeSantis’ upcoming visit to his state ahead of an anticipated 2024 presidential announcement. “Ron DeSantis swears that he is fighting to protect people’s ‘freedoms,’ but he has no problem taking away their reproductive rights,

It’s clear that the Democrats and their corporate media partners believe President Biden’s best chance of remaining in the White House after 2024 is to assure that his Republican opponent in the general election is former President Trump. To that end, they have launched the political equivalent of the old “pump and dump” investment scam in which fraudsters disseminate false information to artificially drive up the price of a stock and suddenly sell off their own shares when its “value” peaks.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is gearing up for next year’s presidential race with the launch of a new department dedicated solely to election integrity. The new internal infrastructure will bring on year-round staff operating new technology designed to facilitate recruitment and litigation, according to a 35-page report shared exclusively with The Federalist. “The RNC built a historic election integrity program in 2022: we put 80,000 volunteers on the ground, secured key legal victories, and learned how we can grow even stronger in the future,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel told The Federalist.

The Justice Department did not deny the existence of a record alleging a criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden, the House Oversight Committee confirmed to Breitbart News Wednesday. On May 3, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) subpoenaed the FBI for records alleging the criminal scheme. The document, an FBI-generated FD-1023 form, allegedly details an arrangement involving an exchange of money for policy decisions between now-President Biden and a foreign national. Comer issued the subpoena following legally protected disclosures by a whistleblower to Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-IA) office

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the 89-year-old California Democrat who on Wednesday arrived in the Capitol after a near-three-month absence due to illness, reportedly confused one black man with another. Feinstein in 2021 approached Sen. Tim Scott, a Republican who has represented South Carolina in the Senate since 2013, "stuck out her hand, and told him she had been rooting for him and was so happy to have him serving with her in the Senate," according to a new book that Politico excerpted on Thursday. Scott and his staffers knew that "Feinstein had mistaken the South Carolinian for Raphael Warnock, the newly elected Democratic senator from Georgia," and "played along."

A recent Washington Post headline labels the month-long torrent of attacks among left-of-center media and Senate Democrats "The polite struggle to do something—anything—about Clarence Thomas." The claim, now ubiquitous on the Left, is that the Supreme Court Justice has been bought by billionaire businessman Harlan Crow and has filed false federal financial disclosure forms to cover up the fact. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) have called for a Justice Department investigation of Justice Thomas. The only place these lies may be considered "polite," however, is the all-white beach and sailing clubs frequented by the Whitehouses.

Joe Biden has announced he will seek reelection as president. This comes as he is experiencing the lowest approval ratings of his presidency — 37 percent, according to Gallup. Former President Donald Trump or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will almost certainly be the GOP nominee. The blunt reality, however, is that regardless of who the GOP puts up against Biden, they will lose if the party isn’t prepared to get down in the mud and beat the Democratic National Committee (DNC) at their own dirty game: ballot harvesting. The 2020 election left conservatives shellshocked. How could Trump lose to a supposedly senile candidate who spoke to tiny, lackluster crowds?

Overheated rhetoric is not a new feature of the American news landscape. In the 19th century, newspapers were openly partisan and sometimes directly tied to a particular political party. And just as the “big three” era of alleged unbiased reporting gave way to more aggressive matchups on ideological cable news networks, so too the fallout from the split between primetime viewership leader Tucker Carlson and Fox News might be a glimpse of what the news business might look like in its next evolution. As Carlson himself said in his single video comment since parting ways with Fox, the problem with much of what passes for debate

The White House on Thursday released a broad national strategy to fight antisemitism, describing the initiative as unprecedented in scope amid a surge in anti-Jewish crime. However, the White House evaded an increasingly contentious debate over how to define antisemitism, avoiding a clear endorsement of a mainstream, widely accepted definition while simultaneously welcoming an alternative pushed by progressives who argue the former doesn't allow sufficient space to criticize Israel, the world's only Jewish state. The 60-page document details four pillars that undergird the strategy: increasing awareness and understanding of antisemitism and appreciation of Jewish American heritage,

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador again waded into the U.S. political situation on Thursday when he urged Hispanics not to vote for newly-declared presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — the latest example of the Mexican president meddling in U.S. elections against Republicans. Lopez Obrador spoke at a press conference a day after DeSantis declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. DeSantis has taken a hard stance against illegal immigration, and has called for greater security at the border — including shutting down the border with Mexico.

Upon receiving no reaction from the crowd, the first lady added, "I thought you might clap for that." The crowd promptly complied.

Bud Light is listed as a sponsor on the Cincinnati Pride Parade website. Planned Parenthood and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, which medically transitions minors, are both also listed. Meanwhile, in St. Louis, Missouri, where Anheuser-Busch is headquartered, the company is listed as the presenting sponsor of the St. Louis Pride Parade. A sponsorship packet explains that there are only four “presenting sponsor” slots available. The “Rainbow” sponsorship tier, located below the “presenting sponsor” tier, requires entities to pay $25,000.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., slammed the Supreme Court's ruling Thursday that limited the Environmental Protection Agency's ability to regulate bodies of water, calling it a "MAGA" court even though the decision was 9-0. On Thursday, the high court issued an opinion that narrowed the EPA's broad definition of Waters of the United States (WOTUS). The court said the federal government must define WOTUS as a water source with a "continuous surface connection" to major bodies of water. The decision upended an attempt by the Biden administration to regulate wetlands, lakes, ponds, streams and other "relatively permanent" waterways, which had relied on a broad reading of the EPA's authority

The current reports of executive branch illegality make Watergate look like kindergarten mischief. It is clear from the Durham report and the work of House Republican hearings that the current scandals in the Biden White House – and senior bureaucracies at the Justice Department, IRS, and elsewhere – are much deeper and more cancerous than Watergate ever was. It may be hard to remember, but Watergate came about due to a weird, dumb, and fairly narrow set of criminal behaviors which mushroomed into 69 officials being indicted and 48 imprisoned. I remember Watergate vividly, because I first ran for Congress in 1974 during the Watergate scandal.

Prosecutors have said during the trial that it was possible he could have handed the Russians Joe Biden’s medical records. A week ago Wednesday before the controversy erupted, Target’s stock closed at $160.96 a share, giving the big-box chain a market capitalization of $74.3 billion. As of early trading on Thursday, however, shares of the company were trading off 1% at $141.76 — capping a weeklong tumble that has shrunk the “cheap chic” discount retailer’s value to $65.3 billion. That amounts to a 12% drop that has shaved a whopping $9 billion off the company’s market capitalization.
