Tim Scott’s announcement here Monday that he’s running for president came mere days before Ron DeSantis is expected to declare his own, far more ballyhooed campaign, joining Donald Trump in what has looked for months like a two-person race for the Republican nomination.
Scott, polling in low single digits, is starting far behind. But in what’s likely to become an even wider field of longshot candidates, the South Carolina senator is plotting a path that many Republican donors and strategists consider credible if Trump or DeSantis falters. His campaign is powered by a sizable war chest and a record of electoral success in his home state that suggests

Don't be too quick to count him out. He is personally appealing, has a good story to tell, doesn't make anyone feel threatened.
I think there is a strong contingent among the GOP rank & file that wants to leave Trump and all of the attendant drama behind. It's not fair, but it's out there. Today's polls mean nothing and surprises do happen in politics. We will see.

To answer the headline: not anymore. If anything makes voters suspicious, it's loads of money you didn't earn yourself.

Frankly I don't give a........... I will not back anyone that is bought and paid for. DT proved what he can do for America, even with one hand tied behind his back. I would rather have turmoil in DC with a great economy, strong world leader, then to gamble on anyone else. The Left and the RINOs do not want DT. That is good enough for me. I want DT and only DT.

Tim Scott is young but a good man and will only get better with experience. The only negative I see is the stink left by Barack Obama which may sour some people on voting for a black man. Tim Scott is no Barack Obama and we are all thankful for that.

No. He won't and can't win.
But he can certainly split the conservative vote, thus giving the win to the Dems.
Which is, of course, the main idea.
Call it what it is, the "Perot Gambit".

Part of me likes Tim Scott and think that he might make for a decent VP candidate for Trump. However, another part of me thinks Tim Scott might be an inside the beltway plant. Scott has appeared dozens of times on Fox shows over the last couple of years and since Fox has been firing every conservative commentator that they have had on their network, I'm wondering if Tim Scott is as conservative as he's portrayed by the current Fox commentators.

He isn't running as a third party candidate. He's more likely running for VP. He will also raise his national profile for future elections.

The third article on Scott, etc., by Politico’s Allison to be posted here. Does she xerox her pieces, change wordin around, and add a few bits? A self-plagiarizer? Her theme is that he’ll win with “evangelicals, Iowa and tons of cash… This appears to be a new bit as she rolls along:
Ahead of Scott’s announcement, two Republican colleagues, South Dakota Sens. John Thune and Mike Rounds, have already endorsed his bid, with Rounds calling Scott “the closest to Ronald Reagan that you’re going to see.” Thune, the No. 2 Senate Republican, gave the opening prayer Monday at Scott’s campaign launch rally. Glen McCall, the Republican National Committeeman from South Carolina, led the pledge ahead of Scott’s speech. Among those in the crowd of supporters was former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, former Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, who is serving as Scott’s national campaign co-chair and Larry Ellison, the billionaire founder of Oracle whom Scott from the stage called a “mentor.”
Rounds’s gush was over the top, … Scott ain’t and never will be another Ronald Reagan. Not even close.

I’ll take President Trumo;s “drama” for four more years of a secure border, a thriving economy, no wars, no loss of life and capital in the wars of others. And no more kowtowing to China.

PS: Fossii fuel in my home and my car. Incandescent lightbulbs. No more global warming rubbish. The list goes on and on and will continue to do so.
I forgot the most important one: truth. President Trump did not lie to us. Some could not take his being what his daughter described as “blunt”. The dictionary says this means “uncompromisingly straightforward”. Sounds good to me. Spare us the timidity. The timid will sink us.
