Texas authorities captured the man they believe fatally shot five people — including a child — Tuesday after he was on the run for four days, according to an official. A person believed to be alleged gunman Francisco Oropesa, 38, was arrested in the Lone Star State Tuesday, San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon told NBC News. He was taken into custody in the city of Cut and Shoot, the prosecutor said. Authorities are awaiting a fingerprint match to confirm the person they grabbed is the correct suspect, Dillon reportedly said.

I think there should be a new meme about rewards to make it more palatable to those communities that might have the relevant info. 'Snitches get Riches'.

Former President Donald Trump sued The New York Times, three of its reporters, and his own niece in 2021 over an investigation into his tax returns. On Wednesday, a New York trial judge dismissed the suit, saying the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation into his finances was clearly protected by the First Amendment. As The Times eagerly reported, Trump accused the paper and three of its reporters of conspiring in an “insidious plot” with his estranged niece, Mary Trump, to improperly obtain his confidential tax records and federal tax returns for a series of stories published in 2018.

My thoughts on Karine Jean Pierre's job performance have been rather clear, and clear-eyed, since the very beginning. Having spoken to multiple people who used to occupy her exact role, as well as a number of public-facing Democrats, let's just say that my assessment is not an outlier. This week, on the subject of the border crisis, the White House Press Secretary did an especially poor and mendacious job on consecutive days. I say this not because she garbled words or offered little of value, which is par for the course, but because she told a massive lie, then got snippy and churlish in response to legitimate questioning

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA), who publicly advanced claims in the infamous Steele dossier, said Thursday on “CNN’s This Morning” that House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) is pushing out “unsubstantiated allegations.” Comer has subpoenaed the FBI for records alleging a criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden. Partial transcript as follows:KAITLAN COLLINS: Oversight chair James Comer is now subpoenaing records from the FBI. He has subpoena power, of course. He claims they could show then Vice President Biden receiving bribes allegedly from a foreign national in exchange for policy favors. I should note the White House has strenuously denied this. Two trend lines extend into the future. One tracks government's increased oppression, surveillance, and social control. The other tracks people's rising spiritual faith, desire for personal freedom, and determination that government should leave them alone. This is our reality. It also exposes the chink in totalitarianism's armor. The greater the government's coercion, the more convinced a growing share of the population becomes that illegitimate government must go. The same tug of war has played out time and again. With the luxury of hindsight, there is a clear trigger point when governing authorities cross a line into such unacceptable tyranny that their eventual fall becomes certain.

The easiest way to cut through the pretending nonsense is to ask the obvious question, ‘Why now?‘ The Florida Republican Legislature is changing the Sunshine Laws in Florida to block people from reviewing the travel records of the Florida Governor. [HB1495 Link] The claimed justification is security, to protect the governor and high-ranking state officials. However, the obvious timing of Ron DeSantis pending run for the White House, in combination with his administration refusing to give details on who/how the funding for his private charter flights have been taking place during the “book tour,” makes the new law much more suspicious as constructed.
