The Democrat Party has been a stain on the nation since its founding in 1828 by a virulently racist president, Andrew Jackson. It was the party of slavery and the Confederacy, it initiated racial segregation by legislating and brutally enforcing Jim Crow laws. It unabashedly aligned with and supported the Ku Klux Klan for over nine decades, thus promoting antisemitism, religious persecution and xenophobia. Over the past sixty-years the Party has embraced and promulgated cultural Marxism which espouses the transformation of traditional American culture and society. The Party has succeeded in undermining the family structure and religious freedom as well as mainstreaming abortions

just want to say, my immigrant forebears who went and volunteered for the Union Army, with the object of opposing slavery, were Democrats from Massachusetts. They went and opposed slavery because they did not like slavery. They were Democrats and their descendants were Democrats and continued to oppose racism, for 150 years. About half of their descendants that I know of, still are Democrats, and still with the same good intentions.

So if we take Marxism as the name of the philosophy behind classic communism that Marx called "Communism", then "socialism" is one of the last steps leading to true communism.
As with along philosophies/religions, Marxism is open to interpretation by later "philosophers". Lenin saw it as an INTERNATIONAL philosophy that would start in Russia and cover the world. Stalin saw it as a tool to conquer his part of the world and keep himself in power.
Mussolini and Hitler Marxism as a NATIONAL philosophy. Instead of the international party being run by the USSR, they wanted their own, home-grown version of Marxism.
Since the international Marxist group now had a lock on the name "Communism", the national Marxism groups chose to use "socialist" as part of the names of their parties. This worked quite well, as national socialist parties has sprung up everywhere. This just wasn't as scary as international communism and had always been an easier sell, such as the American Socialist Labor Party of 1877.
Famously, Hitler named his party "Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" (National Socialist German Workers' Party". That's a mouthful, so they abbreviated it to "Nazi" (NAtionalsoZIalistische - I bet Goebbels had a hand in this; he had a ear for such things.)
Political types set up a continuum with Communism on the extreme left and Nazism/fascism on the extreme right, as if they are opponents, rather than two side of the same coin. Stalin and Hitler certainly were opponents, but for the rest of the world, if was choice of being controlled by the communist dictator in Russia or the socialist dictator in Germany.
Nazism is literally just another name for socialism.

All those saying Hitler was a socialist and not communist haven’t read Frederick Hayek. He explained in the 1940’s that communism and socialism are opposite sides of the same coin. They were the same philosophies.

Say, wasn't this article originally published in 2015? I' pretty sure I read it or something like it in about fifty different "conservative" publications, like National Review, for example.

There is a good reason why Nazis and American Democrats are so similar: Democrat literature and philosophy taught the Nazis and the Communists, all they know.
Democrat philosophy forms the base of Nazi politics, as well as Marxist, Leninist and even Stalinist extremism.
