More than 640 people have been killed and thousands more injured overnight in a catastrophic 7.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria, flattening entire neighbourhoods while many families were still asleep. Tremors from the deadly quake - which lasted about a minute - were felt as far away as Egypt, Lebanon and the island of Cyprus, while a tsunami warning was briefly issued by authorities in Italy along the country's coast. Residents fled from their homes in terror in cities across southeast Turkey and northern Syria, taking shelter in cars fearing aftershocks and collapsing buildings.

It must be due to global warming that causes all other natural disasters from hurricanes to floods.

The Incas knew how to build houses and buildings to resist earthquakes. Too bad millions of people never learned that skill elsewhere so earthquakes often cause great loss of life.

This was/is a rare enough event that an ancient castle built by the romans collapsed, as did the nearby Mosque built in the 17th century after the Romans had been driven out. I was in SF for the Loma Preita quake, the marina district and embarkadero had similar structural collapses, though mainly large single family structures , not jam packed multi family.

And is the People's Republic of China rushing aid to the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria? No, of course not. It will be the people of the USA, ever-generous to a fault, leading the effort to help these people.

Former President Donald Trump responded to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address Tuesday night, focusing on the mass illegal immigration taking place at the southern border, crime, drops in real wages, and “corruption.” “Here’s the real State of the Union: Over the past two years under Biden, millions and millions of illegal aliens from 160 different countries have stormed across our southern border,” said Trump, the lone GOP candidate officially in the 2024 primary field. Since Biden assumed office in January 2021, 4.2 million migrants have been apprehended by Border Patrol agents along the southern border, marking a record high,

President Joe Biden's State of the Union address kicked off with a sudden smooch between first and second couple members and yet another bold fashion move by influential Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. The early fireworks opened up a speech that typically devolves into policy lists and platitudes as the night wears on Tuesday night's prime time event featured angry exchanges between Biden and House Republicans who booed him for claiming they want to 'sunset' Social Security and Medicare. Sinema made a bold entrance into the House chamber for the speech, after forcing Washington to hold its collective breath during talks on the Inflation Reduction Act, then later announcing she had switched from Democrat to independent.

Joe Biden used his State of the Union to tout his economic accomplishments, express his optimism for the future, and urge Republicans to work with him. However, many Republicans took the opportunity to point out that some of the claims he made in his speech on Tuesday night did not stack up. Eric Schmitt, senator for Missouri, said: 'I think it was a state of delusion, not a State of the Union speech.' Former President Donald Trump added: 'The good news is we are going to reverse every single crisis, calamity and disaster that Joe Biden has created.

CLAIM: President Joe Biden claimed during the State of the Union that over the the last two years, he “cut the deficit by more than $1.7 trillion – the largest deficit reduction in American history.” VERDICT: MISLEADING. Biden is “distorting reality” when he claims his administration is responsible for reducing the deficit, according to CNN: The deficit has been smaller under the Biden administration than it was at the end of President Donald Trump’s tenure. But the deficit has been bigger under the Biden administration than the nonpartisan federal Congressional Budget Office had projected it would be if the Biden-era federal government stuck with the laws that were in effect when Trump

Marjorie Taylor Greene called him a 'liar' after he blamed the nation's debt on Donald Trump. But it quickly turned contentious

There’s no mention of inflation, but Biden has already declared that it’s not his fault.

The Biden administration has been trying to plug a gigantic hole in their story about Chinese spy balloons flying over U.S. territory during the Trump administration with no one in the government aware of it. Initially, the Biden administration sought to deflect attention from their failure to shoot down the balloon by noting that Chinese spy balloons transited U.S. territory three times during the Trump years. But when several Trump administration officials hotly denied that charge, Biden administration officials changed their story. They claimed that the balloons were only over U.S. territory briefly — skirting Hawaii and flying over part of Florida — unlike this latest spy balloon, which traversed

I really miss Rush. Regardless how complex or critical the issue, I could always count on Rush Limbaugh’s entirely rational and moral analysis, delivered by an apex professional with genuine compassion, even for those with whom he disagreed. He was ensconced behind that golden EIB microphone; a master of ideas and argument. From his lofty height, he engaged with every thorny problem with an equanimity that drew a placid sagacity from an ocean of experience, and confidence. After all, Rush was “documented almost always right 99.7% of the time.” He was a compass that always pointed the precise bearing to truth. He was the constitutionalists’ loadstar.

Somehow, the weirdest thing that happened at the State of the Union was not Joe Biden proclaiming that he’ll veto any legislation that raises the cost of “frisizhnjubs,” a line I’m still trying to figure out.
