California DA calls Newsom a 'menace to
public safety' in escalating war of words
over police officer's death

A California district attorney unloaded on Gov. Gavin Newsom Friday as the state officials remain locked in a war of words over the death of a police officer allegedly gunned down by a released convict while on duty. Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp has squarely blamed liberal leaders' criminal justice reforms for the tragedy, saying Newsom has "blood" on his hands. Newsom, in a heated response, pointed the finger at Smittcamp's prosecutorial discretion in the case. Gonzalo Carrasco Jr., a 24-year-old officer with the Selma Police Department, was allegedly gunned down by a released convict on the job Tuesday. Authorities have identified the suspect as 23-year-old Nathaniel Dixon

Comments:

Fresno is out in the saner part of California, where people farm and ranch for a living and are far more connected to reality than too many in SanFran and LA.

Newsom has turned California into a socialist hellhole and people are fleeing the state by the thousands. Yet he presses on knowing that his tax base is steadily shrinking. This is the definition of insanity. Does he really think he can sell his record to the rest of the country in a Presidential election? I mean in an election that isn’t won by fraud.

So migrants do indeed enter countries illegally and bring with them a lot of crime. That's what anyone who lives in a migrant zone, which includes Europe, already knows, given the scope of soaring crime in such areas.  A recent Swedish study, cited below, certainly found a link: According to a RealClearPolitics investigation, by respected researchers John R. Lott, Jr. and James Varney, a Swedish study has proven that there is a significant link between illegal immigration and violent crime, noting Sweden's sudden upsurge in violent crime traced to unassimilated illegal immigrants.  RCI collected homicide data for the European Union from the United Nations

n Tuesday, Iowa became the second state in the country to pass universal school choice, directly providing families with funds to support their children’s education. Arizona was the trendsetter for this new wave of educational freedom after Gov. Doug Ducey signed universal school choice into law on July 7, 2022.  Now the race is on to advance educational freedom, with several red states looking to follow suit. The significance of these developments can hardly be overstated. What was once a pipe dream for many education reformers — the enabling of school choice at scale during their lifetimes — is now becoming a reality.

Bloomberg Business Week, no foe of green energy, headlines: Wind Turbines Taller Than the Statue of Liberty Are Falling Over.” [snip] A motorist had reported that one of the huge turbines at a nearby wind farm had collapsed in dramatic fashion. The steel tower, which once stood hundreds of feet tall, was buckled in half, and the turbine blades, whose rotation took the machine higher than the Statue of Liberty, were splayed across the wheat field below. The turbine, made by General Electric Co., had been in operation less than a year.

We are now three years after the COVID-19 apocalypse began, and the CDC and WHO still refuse to acknowledge that the virus was created in and escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). But they, along with all our institutions, have lied so often and so egregiously that 72% of the public doesn’t believe them. If nothing else, that is a very positive sign. The evidence for the lab leak is as overwhelming as the evidence for a zoonotic origin is non-existent. For anyone trained in the art of biology to deny the lab origin betrays either deceit or, worse, willful ignorance.

German authorities want to put a famous Jewish composer and Holocaust survivor into a psychiatric clinic and want to force her to take the COVID injection. According to the news outlet Report24, Inna Zhvanetskaya, who lives in Stuttgart, Germany, was supposed to be taken to a psychiatric institution for a string of claimed mental illnesses, and forcefully injected with the COVID vaccines on January 11, which she does not want. (Report24 says it has been in personal contact with Zhvanetskaya.) However, according to several reports, she has been transferred to a safe place by sympathetic activists who wanted to prevent her from being detained and vaccinated against her will.

In mid-December, Dr. John Lott, president of the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) and a world-recognized expert on guns and crime, testified before a Congressional subcommittee on violence and made some startling revelations. Perhaps one of the most important was that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) covered up the fact that armed citizens use their guns quite frequently to stop active shooter attacks. According to Lott’s testimony before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, the FBI grossly underreported the number of times armed citizens had stopped active shooters.

This is one of those stories that you’re certain is from the Babylon Bee, and that is stunning in its implications when it turns out to be the truth. In this case, the truth is that, in accordance with UN and WEF climate recommendations, the city of Oxford (home to the famed university) approved plans mandating that citizens may not drive more than 15 minutes distance from their homes without permission. It’s called the “15 Minute City” and is intended to reduce auto emissions. Mostly, though, it will reduce liberty, which is what climate change madness has always been about.

There is a strange but all too widespread coalition of left-wing anti-war activists and alleged “right-wing” isolationists trying desperately to dimmish any perception that Russia and China are working together against American security. A focus has been the Ukraine invasion, the larger consequences of which they dismiss except to fear that it might lead to regime change in Moscow rather than Kyiv. The most ugly and ridiculous manifestation of this was Tucker Carlson’s disgraceful rant against President Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech to Congress. He embarrassed Fox News and insulted its patriotic audience by trotting out every New Left argument from the anti-Vietnam war era,

We are all Americans.  That said, there have been efforts for years to divide us for perceived political reasons.  Those who live in the bigger cities often tend to look down their noses to those who don't.  We have become a Blue America and a Red America.  I personally believe that the colors are reversed, but maybe that's just me.  A good representation of red vs. blue can be seen on the 2020 election map by counties. It has gotten so bad that there are discussions of secession and even civil war, God forbid.  It would be difficult to have states against states.  The real conflict appears to be larger cities versus the rest of America.

And while the able Carlson had valid points to make, his overall spiel on this particular event was Manichean and easily refutable. Fighter jets shot down the Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic today after Joe Biden vowed to 'take care of it' and the FAA shutdown three airports in the Carolinas. The balloon was seen bursting at 2.38pm and its payload - the metal structure carrying its cameras - appeared to have been separated as it plummeted towards the ocean off Myrtle Beach. The Biden administration confirmed the shoot-down order around 2pm after the President this morning vowed, 'We're gonna take care of it,' as he stepped off Air Force One at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, upstate NY.

Washington - The U.S. military on Saturday shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon off the Carolina coast after it traversed sensitive military sites across North America. China insisted the flyover was an accident involving a civilian aircraft and threatened repercussions. President Joe Biden issued the order but had wanted the balloon downed even earlier, on Wednesday. He was advised that the best time for the operation would be when it was over water, U.S. officials said. Military officials determined that bringing it down over land from an altitude of 60,000 feet would pose an undue risk to people on the ground. China responded

The U.S. was able to collect valuable information on China’s surveillance capabilities while observing the spy balloon as it traversed the continental U.S. for several days, a senior military official and senior defense official claimed Saturday. President Joe Biden asked for possible military options for removing the threat of the suspected Chinese spy balloon Tuesday, but the Department of Defense (DOD) opted against doing so Wednesday over concerns falling debris could endanger civilians, officials said at a briefing Saturday. However, they did not clarify whether a military option was considered when the craft transgressed U.S. airspace over Alaska’s Aleutian Islands on Jan. 28,

So we begin with a bit of a biographical note. Like many writers at PJ Media, I work from home. There was a knock at my door this morning, and I noticed a police vehicle outside. As we are law-abiding people, that was out of the ordinary. At my door was the animal control officer. That seemed odd since our dogs stay in the backyard and don’t roam around the neighborhood. The issue that warranted said knock on my door was the fact that I had inadvertently left one of our dogs out a little longer than usual.

The United States could bring down the Chinese surveillance balloon currently flying eastward across the country by shooting it with a laser, which would cause it to gradually descend without inflicting serious damage to civilians on the ground, according to an aerospace specialist. The Defense Department previously ruled out shooting down the balloon, which was first spotted earlier this week in Montana, saying that its size could cause a debris field large enough to harm Americans. But Art Thompson, CEO of California-based company Sage Cheshire Aerospace which provides stratospheric balloon launching and research services, believes that a “semi-controlled descent” could be a solution.

Stripped of all the technical jargon is this stark reality: "On an unadjusted basis, payrolls actually fell by 2.5 million last month."
