On Thursday, a Chinese spy balloon was spotted over Montana. “US detects suspected Chinese surveillance balloon hovering over northern U.S. for days,” reported Upward News. The Pentagon released the following statement: “The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is over the continental United States right now.” “The balloon was spotted over Billings, Montana, on Wednesday. A senior defense official says the balloon is still over the U.S. but declined to say where it is now,” NBC reported. The spy balloon is the size of three school buses.

Still there, huh? I don't see where they state at what altitude it is nonchalantly cruising through the Montana skies, but I have to believe there are a few Montanans with the firepower to bring the damn thing down if the Gubermint won't.

If we sent a spy balloon over China, Russia, Cuba, North Korea, or any other country, it would have been shot down the second it was discovered!!!! But those countries all have leaders who actually lead, not a useless, impotent, senile old man who hates the country that he was illegally appointed to lead straight to the destruction of this republic!!! Don't you know the Chinese are rolling on the floor laughing right now at how easy we are going to be to defeat -- even easier than the Poles and French to Germany in WW-II!!!!

If it is a balloon it moves with the winds only. How high is it? Can the aircraft even get that high?

#6, I believe a volley of air-to-air missiles from a fighter or two could deal with it, even if the ceiling of the jets was limited. And there would probably be little left of it after incineration to reach the ground and cause our hand-wringing politicos cause for concern.

How does a high altitude balloon hover and turn to revisit sensitive areas without a propulsion system? This is no ordinary helium balloon.

It's a little late dontcha think? By now the Chicoms have a detailed set of target coordinates on our nuclear sites, ready to launch their hypersonic nukes when the time comes. Nice job Joe. They certainly get their money's worth. So nice you are allowing tracking of the spy balloon. Too bad you can't snag it out of the sir and take it to Area 51 for further analysis and reverse engineering of their spy technology.

The balloon is a test run for delivering an EMT burst over North America. So far the balloon is working. The NA militaries are doing nothing but allowing the balloon to float over the Western US. Thoroughly Modern Milley is probably on the phone to his buddies in the CCP and discussing what he will do next. That is how completely fubared America is.

Scrambles? Really? The Air Force had to scramble aircraft to check out a balloon? Was this a hypersonic balloon? Was it a stealthy balloon that couldn't be picked up on radar until the last minute? Were three planes enough just in case the balloon started shooting back? The Civil Air Patrol cold have checked this thing out in an old Piper Cub plane.

Montana is famed for its empty plains, wild river canyons and its status as home to one of the nation's three publicly known large-scale nuclear missile silos. So when a suspected Chinese spy balloon was spotted loitering in the air of the 'big sky state' it was not long before analysts suggested its most likely target: Malmstrom Air Force Base, which has been dubbed America's 'doomsday' base. 'Montana plays a vital national security role by housing nuclear missile silos at Malmstrom AFB,' state senator Steve Daines wrote in a letter to the Pentagon, raising the alarm on Thursday. Its location in the west of the country meant the air base was marked out in the 1950s

Former Pentagon officials have been left scratching their heads by the Biden administration's decision not to neutralize a Chinese spy balloon floating over U.S. mainland.  David Stillwell, who served as Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs under the Trump administration, told the balloon was likely form of mind game by Beijing ahead of the meeting between Sec. He noted that in 2007 the Chinese shot an anti-satellite weapon before then-Defense Sec. Robert Gates arrived in the nation. The U.S. didn't cancel, but 'should have,' Stillwell said.
