A Princeton University student argued in a Sunday night opinion article that the school’s Honor Code unfairly impacts racial minorities, citing parallels to the U.S. criminal justice system. The Ivy League school’s Undergraduate Honor Code lays out standards for student conduct that all undergraduate students must abide by and prohibits students from plagiarizing or cheating, according to its website. Emilly Santos, author of the op-ed and Princeton University student, likened the code to the United States criminal justice system to propose that it “disadvantages” minority students. (Snip) “FLI students, like many students, are often afraid of disappointing family and friends,”
FLI is less offensive to me than rich minority kids getting affirmative action.
Lots of poor whites in this country.

FTA: “FLI students, like many students, are often afraid of disappointing family and friends”
The solution to that is to study, just like everyone else.

So he's saying that minorities not only cheat and plagiarize but that they can't make it without doing so?

Because MLK was a plagiarist, I suppose.
What they are saying is that blacks have criminal tendencies that they can't control, and it is unfair to ask them to follow the laws that we all follow?

In order to avoid cheating claims the university should just award degrees to all incoming FLI's. Then the "Honor Code" will remain in effect for the remaining students.
The FLI's will then be able to seek high level government positions well in advance of the regular students who will struggle with loans and Master's degree pursuits.

Guess honesty will be racist just like math for some 'intellectuals'.
Frankly surprised these people haven't declared logic and reason racist.
They will in time.

Thomas Sowell has long said that putting minority students who are not academically prepared for rigorous demands at top universities is doing them no favor. Unfortunately the top student at a high school where only 15% of students can read at an 8th grade level is not prepared for the rigors of top schools. Sowell argues that they would be better off at lower tier Universities where they would do well. I believe something like less than 50% of minority students do well enough to graduate. They leave without a degree and in debt. Now the left says the answer is to let them cheat. The dumbing down institutions is their answer to everything. Equity is the goal not excellence.

#8, that was my first thought, too. “The soft bigotry of low expectations” is alive and well, living in an ivory tower at Princeton.

Cheating in college, the latest entitlement for blacks. Many are affirmative-action admits who don't meet requirements (test scores and GPAs) to even get in.

Okay. So the lesson to take away is minorities are cheaters & thieves and are admitting to it. Great. And we are supposed to accept this why?

And by the way, of what value is a degree if it was obtained under the low standards of condoned plagiarism and cheating? Why even bother getting a degree? It is like the new "participation trophy".

So, are they confirming that minority students are stupid and have to cheat? How insulting! If allowing this behavior for minorities, it will be a cold day in hell before I go to them if I get sick or need legal advice, much less let them build anything.

This is liberal racism exposed. These snot nosed self-proclaimed elites in training have decided that minorities can’t survive without cheating, therefore it must not only be accepted but encouraged. These students will not graduate college any smarter than when they started. Is that the plan?

Her argument is that since minorities cannot compete fairly they must be allowed to cheat.... Whether or not true, it seems a rather RACIST assumption on her part.

There is a certain symmetry in the allowance of lower ethical standards for minority students. After all, it does track consistently with inner cities allowing theft from local businesses.

So, minority students are ...inferior intellectually? lazy? morally degenerate? culturally inferior?
GWBush warned of the "bigotry of low expectations", and we have not ... no, not WE, THEY, the pompous and self-righteous Left elites, they have never expected more from minorities, because this is precisely how they think.
These elites include Blacks who have bought into the Left ideology, and are part of the cabal of wealthy politicians, pundits, entertainers and so-called "educators" who are still stuck in a fetid quagmire and depend on the perpetual servile state of their dependents to maintain their position of superiority.

Well this worked for criminal activity; minorities' who commit a disproportionate amount of crime claimed they were unfairly targeted by law enforcement because they were minorities, called it systemic racism. As a result they now get to shoplift at will, pay no bail, be set free from jail, or not even prosecuted.
If that is any precursor we will soon see cheating and plagiarism approved for minority students.

Interesting to see them reference their "code of honor" as I presume it only applies when they are actually attending the University.
After all, it seems far too many Ivy League alumni population positions of elected and nominated office, where that "code" seems to have been forgotten.

MIT used to plaster the walls with pictures of students who were the first in their families to attend college. Fine. What are their academic credentials? When I see so very many blacks traipsing through Harvard Yard, I, and no doubt many others, can't help but ask themselves are they here on merit or because of their skin color?

Actually it does take some effort to cheat and plagiarize and some of the students may not be able to handle that. Just give them the degree they want (summa cum laude of course) and charge the government full tuition.

The school’s Honor Code unfairly impacts racial minorities, citing parallels to the U.S. criminal justice system. Gee, ya think, and why. Just who are committing most of these transgressions. Who are committing most of the violent crimes, who are committing most of the hate crimes, who are committing most of the carjackings, assaults on police, home invasions, riots and looting. Are we living in a fantasy land. If there's a murder in Chicago, Baltimore, NYC, Atlanta or St. Louis, what are you going to do, look for a Chinese guy. People are sick of hearing about the disadvantaged. You commit a crime you pay for it End of story. Total insanity.

How about getting off your phone and STUDYING hard? I got two engineering degrees back to back and it was a six year difficult job. I worked hard for my high GPA and memberships in two engineering honor societies. Whiny little pukes like this who think that cheating is OK are just third rate losers, and aren't even in Princeton for any reason related to brains or capability....only because of their skin color.
