It was not race, but bad policing that

The release of the videos from the lethal arrest of Tyre Nichols, 29, is shocking for its lack of professional tactics and procedures. This looks like adrenaline-filled rage … from the officers. At certain points, it is the suspect who sounds to be trying to de-escalate the situation. It is unfortunately not unique. In physical encounters, officers can escalate violence and lose control with lethal consequences. The footage helps establish a number of legal points. The force is clearly and undeniably excessive. It was a complete breakdown of training and supervision. It is hard to look at this tape objectively and analytically given the emotional impact of the scene. Yet

When you put the police badges, tazers, tear gas like sprays, and the like aside. What happened in Memphis looks and sounds like the kind of beatings that the uncivilized inner city Black street gangs, the members of which clearly have little or no self control when it comes to laying on extreme violence like drop kicking their foes in the head in incidents that they routinely perpetrate. Notice that after the incident in Memphis ended with the victim handcuffed and incapacitated that the officers involved stood around seemingly casually talking without any thought that they did anything out of the ordinary in very seriously injuring their victim.

The perps were fired, then arrested and jailed and murder charges filed. Why are there demonstrations after all that? Everything is under control, but after every one of these incidents there’s a “demonstration”. It’s automatic! What do these demonstrations hope to accomplish other than to riot and break things. I want to say they are stupid, but I’ll leave that to others,

These policemen were in a rage. Five big burly cops, likely with a bit of steroid here and there, totally brutalized a scrawny young man. What happened to them? They went insane. I've never condoned demonstrations, looting, destroying things, but this time I can accept it. That young man kept calling for his mama. There was no excuse in the world for this to have happened. My sympathies to his family.

This situation is common in cities with these proactive police units. All these officers belonged to a "Scorpion" team, one of three teams in Memphis. They are supposed to root out and combat crime, almost before it occurs. These guys need very tight SUPERVISION. Some years back, in NYC, a doctor got off a two day shift and missed his exit on the Cross Bronx Expwy. and ended up in a lousy part of town...the Bronx. Two scruffy individuals approached him at 3ish in the morning and he hit the gas thinking they were street criminals. They were undercover cops and they shot him to death. Proactive cop units have to be supervised very closely or plain old civilians are going to be killed. And by the way, if you make a cop run after your dumb a*s and catch you, I promise you a beat down. And as other posters have suggested, there is a certain culture from which you don't want a beat down. Quick surrender and nonresistance is the key to survival.

I don’t believe the police actions had anything to do with race. The aftermath, playing out in the streets, is ALL about race. One particular race. As usual.

5 might be on to something. It seemed personal, like one of the cops had a grudge or a beef with Tyre and the other cops had his back. They forgot a cop rule, which is cameras are everywhere.

I am sickened and disgusted by the video. I wonder how many others were beaten by the Scorpion team in the past. I support the police but this was not justified. These police officers are nothing more than criminals with a badge. Put them on trial and let the facts lead a jury to provide justice.

Something I have noticed frequently in these police incidents is that the police demand something and expect their demands be met immediately. When that does not happen, they go ballistic. Police demand someone pull over, or get out of a car, or get down on their stomach. When that does not happen, out comes the pepper spray, the tasers, the baton, and all too often, the gun. I also wonder what the specific cause of death will be. I can easily imagine if what happened to Nichols happened to me, I would end up with a bout of A-fib at minimum. If a police officer ever threatened to tase me, I would be telling them I'm on three different heart meds and not do it.

Tyre Nichols was an engaging young man who would light up a room, was kind to those he met, helpful to the disabled especially old ladies trying to cross the street, and learning how to be an absentee father. At age 29 he had hopes of becoming a nuclear physicist and thought rap music would aid him in understanding his world. It would never occur to him to be mouthy and profane during a routine traffic stop especially to policemen of color. He would never use the "N" word to what he might call fellow "Ns." He was just a well-rounded Black man living in Memphis studying particle physics with dreams of making a breakthrough in fusion or thorium while adjusting ear buds to rap music.

Well, well, well... From another article: "According to a source within the Memphis PD, the 5 charged officers weren’t hired through the usual structured PD hiring process. City leaders felt the existing process was too strict and kept certain people from getting jobs at the department. City leaders began their own hiring process and then pushed new hires into the agency, bypassing the testing procedures in place at the department. You can read between the lines what that all means. All 5 of the charged officers were hired by the City, and didn’t go through the rigorous PD testing process. This is what quota hiring looks like. Lawsuits and dead innocents. The city should pay the lawsuits instead of the Police department. This Murder wasn’t created by old school policing or by “white supremacy”. This murder was directly facilitated by liberal policy."

What struck me when watching the video was a question. Why is the goal of the police to get Tyre Nichols to "comply"? Why instead isn't the goal to simply subdue him? They could've achieved this relatively easily by one of the many officers sitting on his legs while he was cuffed by another. 5 cops and they couldn't achieve that? Gimme a break. They enjoyed punishing this guy. They got off on it. Pure evil. Police departments need to stop expecting "compliance/surrender" and instead focus on how fast they can subdue/cuff.

Bad policing was secondary. First, it was a spiritual matter of a lack of conscience and evil intent. As Dan Bongino asked, “Who does this?” Those who do this are without conscience, evil. That isn’t fixed by better training. It is fixed by knowing God and His commandments.

I'm a big supporter of the "thin blue line" and all LEOs in general. But I don't support these thugs in uniform. The dead man's crime didn't rise to the level of treatment he received. Here's the ugly facts: The police --- nationwide --- have been torn down so much recently that good, honest and well meaning men and woman no long want to go into service dressed in blue. Why risk your life and then get no support? Would you encourage your kid to be a cop these days? This is particularly true in heavy crime cities. So ... who becomes a cop now in these bad situations? All the standards have to be lowered and then you get ... shall we nicely say ... a "different element" becoming police officers. The recruits are most likely to be way below average in everything: intelligence, morality, self-control, manners, criminal records themselves, etc. In a city as criminally bad off as some sections of Memphis are (sorry to those still trying to live there!) you get men wanting to become cops who are a lot rougher around the edges than in other cities . In fact, being a cop is a great job for them in that area: good pay (better than a factory or fast food), decent fringe benefits and a pretty good pension. (Usually). Those guys who beat that poor man to death are only one step above the Gestapo --- and all the best training could not change the world view they brought to their jobs in the first place --- which no doubt held a heavy emphasis on their own greatness. Giving any of them a gun and the power to enforce the law --- as they see it --- is just like having a lit candle in a gunpowder warehouse. Sooner of later something is going to go "boom"!

The female Memphis Chief of Police was fired from her job on the Atlanta Police back in 2008 for her inappropriate involvement in a sex crimes investigation. She was busted from Major to Lieutenant before eventually being fired. Sounds like she's known to "bend the rules" a bit. "It was not race..." I disagree: it WAS race. Backfiring. The culture, born and bred in American schools and black (fatherless) families provided the fertile soil for Tyre's death. That is why PDT is launching his push to bring about a renaissance in American education. Something, without which, our civilization will die.

The issue, apart from possible overuse of steroids, is Big Me v Little You. You do as I say. You do not ask questions. That said, I see no difference when a cop beats a citizen and the molestation of a of a parishioner by a priest; when a parent abuses a child; when a spouse abuses a partner. Then there are the psychopaths! Sin is sin, no matter who is committing it.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., tore into his Democratic rivals and Republicans who helped pass the omnibus package, saying President Biden appears to believe there is not a cent of waste in current government spending. On "Life, Liberty & Levin," host Mark Levin asked McCarthy whether the Democrats' playbook for fending off conservative Republicans' calls for budget cuts is to add hundreds of billions of dollars in new debt, then accuse the GOP of trying to shut down the government when they advocate for clawing back some of the new spending. "That's exactly the trick," McCarthy said. "But you've got to think about too, who are the senators who

On Christmas Eve, members of Shenzhen Holy Reformed Church, who fled China several years ago, had their celebrations abruptly cut short. The congregation had initially sought refuge in South Korea, but was denied a haven there after three years of immigration court proceedings. The next port of call was Thailand, which they hoped would be a peaceful, if temporary, home before being granted sanctuary in the United States. But on December 24, the landlord for the apartments where the 64 church members – roughly half adults and half children – were staying suddenly informed them that Thai police had demanded copies of all their passports, IDs, and visas.

On President Biden’s first day in office, then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki vowed that the administration would “bring transparency and truth back to government.” What a useless promise. It’s always the way with political memoirs that everyone sifts them for the high-grade gossip. So it is with Mike Pompeo’s memoir, “Never Give an Inch” released this week. Media reports have understandably focused on the former CIA director and Secretary of State’s opinions on Donald Trump, John Bolton, Kim Jong-Un and a bunch of other folks. But as is often the case, one of the biggest stories in the book has so far been overlooked. When Pompeo was Secretary of State he took probably the most hawkish view any American official has yet taken towards the Communist Party of China. In a speech in October 2019, he told an audience

They should do so, I said, by applying the Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer standards to the newly-created Supreme Court vacancy, following the death of the late great Justice Antonin Scalia. The ultra-strong opioid being cut with virtually every street drug in the country killed a record 75,000 Americans in 2021, the equivalent of 1,500 lives lost every week.  Fentanyl - which is 100 times more potent than morphine - started off as a cheap and potent alternative to heroin and was used by only the most hardcore drug addicts in the US, who mainly injected it or smoked it through a pipe. But its cheap manufacturing costs and potency have made it the go-to cutting agent

Jews eat kosher, Muslims have halal, Hindus eschew meat, and many Christians fast during Lent. So naturally, the fastest-growing religion today — earth and climate worship — is developing its own faith-based dietary restrictions. “Climatarians” (also called “reducitarians” or “climavores”) are people who make their food choices based on how what they eat will impact the earth, with the aim of reducing their carbon “foodprint.” The Earthist version of original sin is that, simply by living, people commit climate sin every time they eat, breathe, travel, and heat or cool their homes. Naturally, the younger generations are the most pious Earthists,

Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) said Saturday on MSNBC’s “Ayman” that some of the so-called right-wing conservatives in the House of Representatives were “domestic terrorists.” Anchor Ayman Mohyeldin said, “I know that politicians tried to sound optimistic as much as they can but right now, with the leadership that we see in the House, is there any path forward for police reform in Congress after this later on tragic killing?” Waters said, “It is the Marjorie Taylor Greene Republican caucus. You heard what McCarthy said. He said that he just loves her and that he is going to do everything he can to protect her

It is a day that could go down in history as the moment humans took their first small step in what will be a giant leap to becoming a multi-planetary species. Elon Musk's $3 billion (£2.4 billion) Starship – a vehicle that could be a game-changer for long-distance space travel – is now just weeks away from shooting for the stars in what will be a highly-anticipated maiden orbital launch. On Monday, the 395ft-tall rocket and its accompanying craft achieved a major milestone after being fuelled up and fully stacked for the first time ever, meaning lift-off could happen as early as next month. So what is Musk's grand vision for Starship,

When I was 7, America elected a fellow named John Kennedy president. He had been a senator and he was witty.(snip)Looking back as an adult, I realize he was not joking. He was bragging. But he was so charming that I secretly have wished for a Republican John Kennedy. Ronald Reagan came close. Donald Trump too. Maybe the John Kennedy we need is the senator by that very name from Louisiana. He uses humor and common sense to make his point and his points are always good ones.(snip)He was a Louisiana Democrat until he (snip)converted to Republican but skipped the testicle-removal ceremony.

In a recent appearance on Fox News, Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, listened while host Sean Hannity listed some of the potential Republican candidates she might have to run against if she decides to seek the White House in 2024. After he named former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, former Secretary of State and former CIA director Mike Pompeo, and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Haley paused and then said with a smile, “Most of them are my friends. … Let the best woman win.” It was a clever line, but does it hint at
