Of the four presidential assassinations in American history, James A. Garfield’s carries the most significance for Americans today. In office only four months before being shot in a Washington train station, Garfield clung to life for an additional two months, earning him the dubious distinction of being the slain American president with the shortest tenure in office and the longest period in agony. A return to political patronage jobs? Bad idea. President Trump was done in by backstabbing leakers. He simply could not find enough people with integrity or morals. There aren't enough decent people in the US who are interested in being drowned the cesspool of corruption that is Washington DC. . The solution is to shut off the money. That will shrink government and limit the damage the Deep State can cause.

What would the United States of America be like like if federal employees were selected and retained by meritocracy and if the mainstream media were politicly neutral? 99% of our country's ills would no longer be an issue. America would be the closest thing to utopia one could imagine.

Poor Garfield. He was a Civil War general and university president before becoming POTUS. He taught mathematics and has one of the many proofs of Pythagoras' theorem. It was said jokingly that he could write in Greek with one hand and Latin with the other. Contrast that with our current El Presidente Cabbage Head who can steal classified documents with either hand.

The system is corrupt as it operates today. I would imagine that 80%+ of government employees are democrats which is a problem right off the bat. I am not saying that Republicans are sinless but I do believe they at least have a respectful view of the role of government and the need for honest people doing the work of we the people. All groups need to be held accountable and our government is accountable to no one. People will do what they can get away with and clearly, bureaucrats feel they are untouchable. It’s way past time to bring real accountability back into the government. Lower the boom on these partisan hacks. Make them accountable for their decisions and hold them responsible for the outcome of their work product. Make the audits of their departments transparent. Put them online and make them defend every dime spent. With the shape the country is in financially we need to know where the waste and fraud are located and get rid of it along with the people participating in it or looking the other way. When people are paying $7 for a dozen eggs, this is the time to tighten the government’s belt. It’s bad enough that Congress is spending like drunken sailors but the bureaucracy is wasting money if they are not actively stealing it. This has to stop. We have to pay taxes under penalty of incarceration. The government should be made to be accountable for every cent they spend of our tax dollars under the same threat.

I have a soft spot for James Garfield. "Destiny of the Republic " by Candice Miller Is a wonderful read. Garfield actually got the Republican nomination as a compromise candidate when the convention could not choose a nominee. This was the fabled smoke filled room at the Congress hotel in Chicago. They chose an extremely intelligent and decent man. And he probably would have survived the gunshot wound had the doctors done nothing. Medical practices at the time ultimately killed him but had a great effect fostering more sanitary and modern techniques. And if you read the book you're going to learn an awful lot about Alexander Graham Bell.

In recent years, government in the U.S. has never been bigger, in terms of both spending and its power over individuals and the economy. Some have begun to openly wonder: Is the U.S. evolving into a socialist-style economy? And is that what Americans want? The latest I&I/TIPP Poll has answers. Over the last three years, due to the COVID pandemic, government spending at all levels averaged just over 44% of GDP, the highest since World War II, when much of the economy was essentially socialized in order to boost war spending. Today, a majority of Americans agree that the sudden, rapid growth from COVID-related spending and burgeoning top-down control o

Last week, the Biden administration once again extended the COVID public health emergency, the 12th time it’s been extended in the past three years. Just weeks before, however, team Biden told the Supreme Court that there is no COVID emergency, and there hasn’t been one since last April. Why the two diametrically opposed positions? Simple. Extending the public health emergency declaration lets Joe Biden keep millions of recipients on Medicaid and continue his student loan bailout. Claiming that COVID isn’t an emergency will open the floodgates to illegal immigrants. Notice the connective tissue? It’s about

Joe Biden seems to be in a bit of trouble. The man who said Donald Trump was “totally irresponsible” for keeping classified documents at his Florida estate now has his own document-gate dragging him down. But his defenders respond, “that’s OK, at least you’re not Trump.” Are there any offenses that Never Trumpers and Democrats say Trump has committed that Biden hasn’t also perpetrated, or done worse?  The stumbling Biden, whose presidency seems to be an effort in trying to manage, and maybe direct, the decline of the U.S., has apparently left a trail of unsecured classified documents, some so sensitive they were declared top secret.

After more than two months, the Justice Department has finally named a special counsel to look into President Joe Biden’s possession of classified government documents at his namesake think tank and his Delaware home. For this, give credit to the newly elected Republican Congress. As the saying goes, a new broom sweeps clean. And with a new Congress, comes new priorities. That includes investigating the Biden family’s possible criminal corruption in its “business ties” to Chinese, Ukrainian and Russian state-linked organizations. It took Attorney General Merrick Garland just days following Trump’s Nov. 16 announcement

The news that the federal government is seriously considering a ban on the sale of gas stoves caught many normal Americans off guard. It shouldn’t have. Nor should they believe it when a regulator says they won’t actually ever ban the thing. In recent decades, regulators have wormed their way into every corner of our lives – banning some products, ruining others, and pricing others out of reach of working families – all allegedly for our benefit. The only thing that’s surprising is that they hadn’t targeted gas stoves earlier. This week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. said that gas appliances

In theory, the newly elected Republican House of Representatives should be working full speed ahead on the nation’s business. But because it’s taken so long to name a House speaker, it’s been delayed. Even so, Americans have a full agenda for Congress once it gets under way, the most recent TIPP Poll data show. We asked Americans specifically what they wanted the new Congress to focus on during its first 100 days, the traditional time for a new group of lawmakers to unveil what their priorities and focus will be. The 15-round vote to finally elect a speaker of the House was, we were told by the political left, an embarrassment and evidence that the Republicans are untrustworthy. It was in reality our system in action and it produced at least two important outcomes, both of which will cause discomfort for the Democrats and their communications wing known as the mainstream media. Over the weekend, we learned that in order for Rep. Kevin McCarthy to earn their votes, the 20 holdout GOP lawmakers got a promise from the California moderate that two special investigative panels would be created. One would look into “the origins of the COVID-19 virus,”
Biden’s New Border Strategy: Blame Republicans First 9 replies

At a briefing last week, a daring reporter asked President Joe Biden why he decided to visit the border now, after Republicans have been calling for him to do so for nearly two years – during which time an unprecedented 4.4 million people crossed the border illegally. Biden’s answer: “Because the Republicans haven’t been serious about this at all. Come on. They haven’t been serious about this at all.” That answer makes no sense. If Republicans haven’t been serious – which is a bald-faced lie – then wouldn’t that be more of an incentive for Biden to take the reins? But nothing Biden is saying lately about the border makes sense.

Kris Kristofferson said that “freedom” is “just another word for nothin’ left to lose.” To the political left, freedom is an abomination that must be defined and controlled by the ruling class elites. And what better way to do that than to crack down on automobile travel? Cars are a favorite target of all progressives and most Democrats. No human invention has increased freedom as much as the automobile. That’s why they have chosen to go to war on cars. It’s a long-term campaign that will take decades to finish. But there are victories along the way, and one of them was won in Washington with the help of Republicans.

Greetings such as “aloha” and “shalom” are “culturally sensitive” and their use could “come off as mockery,” according to a recent USA Today piece demanding people “consider the cultural implications” before using such terms. In an essay published in USA Today on Friday, titled “Is it time to stop saying ‘aloha’ and other culturally sensitive words out of context?” reporter David Oliver argues, “just because you can say something doesn’t mean it’s always appropriate.” Claiming that “aloha” has a “deeper meaning” than just hello or goodbye, the author states, “If you’re not Hawaiian and you say it, it could come off as mockery.”

With each gallon of gas pumped in the United States since 1932, drivers have been paying taxes. The revenue is used for road repairs and public transportation such as train and bus systems. Currently, the Fed takes 18.4 cents per gallon for gas or 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel. State gas taxes range from a national high of 61 cents for gas in Pennsylvania, to a low of 8.95 cents in Alaska. But environmentally motivated improvements in fuel efficiency and the move to electric vehicles (EVs) translate to less gas sold, resulting less tax revenue collected. State and federal governments are looking for a new way to fund transportation.

The Democratic congresswoman introduced the Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023, which aims “to prevent and prosecute white supremacy inspired hate crime and conspiracy to commit white supremacy inspired hate crime.” The conspiracy addition means people who use hate speech online could face criminal charges under the legislation even if they don’t act on their threats.

Longtime journalist and Fox News co-host Geraldo Rivera received a wave of criticism on Twitter Tuesday after incorrectly identifying the AR-15 as an "automatic rifle." In an exchange on the opinion roundtable show, "The Five," Rivera discussed President Joe Biden's pledge to ban assault rifles with his fellow co-hosts. "I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, there is no legitimate reason ... to have an AR-15," Rivera tells the table. Fox News host Greg Gutfeld pushed back on Rivera's opinion, however, and asked the former correspondent, "What does 'AR' stand for?" "It is an automatic rifle," Rivera answered, to which Gutfeld said, "That's not what it is."

One thing that’s rare to see in Hollywood is honesty. When we see it, it tends to touch us. We saw that in the acceptance speech of Ke Huy Quan when he won Best Supporting Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes. We saw it from Brendan Fraser at the Critics Choice Awards. They were both so grateful and happy that after a long time “in the wilderness,” they were given a chance to act again and prove themselves in the roles in which they shined. But Richard Dreyfuss is showing us something else again with his quest. Maybe that’s because even though he worked in Hollywood,
