During a Friday night dinner rush, executive chef Peter Petti will have stainless steel pots of pasta water boiling while searing salmon and steaks, all 12 burners ignited on the gas stoves at Sojourn, a New American restaurant on the Upper East Side. Nearly everything on his menu – from a 30-day, dry-aged NY strip to a chocolate flambeed dessert – is cooked on the range.
“Some dishes require two or three pans on the burners,” said Petti, 45, who’s been cooking with gas since the beginning of his culinary career /snip/
On Monday, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said it was considering a nationwide ban on gas stoves,

Joe Biden was caught on camera making yet another blunder this weekend when he appeared to mistake a member of the Salvation Army for a secret service agent.
The gaffe occurred in El Paso, Texas, on Sunday, during a visit to the Mexican border ahead of this week's 'Three Amigos' summit between the US, Canadian and Mexican leaders. /snip/
Biden stepped towards the aid worker - who was also wearing a Salvation Army badge, name tag and standing in front of a Salvation Army banner - shook his hand and whispered: 'I spent some time with the Secret Service in Poland and Ukraine.' The man, clearly puzzled, smiled back at the President

Paris police are concerned over the growing problems with allegedly underage migrant criminals, who, despite being a small population, account for a significant source of many crimes in the French capital.
Around 2,000 supposed minor migrants, many of which are debated to be underage, live on the streets of Paris and have been behind a disproportionate number of crimes in the city in recent years, including 30 per cent of burglaries, 44 per cent of pickpocketing and 32 per cent of robberies with violence in 2020.
The Paris police prefecture has expressed concerns about the rise of minor migrant criminality in the city,

The College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) ordered clinical psychologist and author Jordan Peterson to complete six months of “re-education” about social media professionalism following complaints about comments he made on social media and on the Joe Rogan podcast, Peterson explained in a Wednesday Twitter thread.
Peterson is required to undergo six months of coaching to refine his social media etiquette, according to a document from the CPO he posted to Twitter. He previously claimed that he was under investigation because of online criticism of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The coaching sessions would require Peterson to “review, reflect on, and ameliorate [his] professionalism in public statements.” He claimed that he would

The Eleventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals voted on Friday to uphold a Florida school-board policy requiring students to use the bathroom of their biological sex.
In a vote that was perfectly split down party lines, seven Republican justices ruled that the St. Johns County School Board transgender bathroom ban was constitutional, while the remaining four Democratic justices all dissented.

President Joe Biden plans to appear with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in Kentucky on Wednesday, to promote infrastructure.
The president will use his appearance with McConnell to signal bipartisanship with establishment Republicans even as they take control of the House of Representatives.
Biden and McConnell are expected to celebrate the massive $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill passed in 2021, which McConnell and establishment Republicans worked with Democrats and the White House to get passed.

California’s SB 1327 went into effect on January 1, 2023, allowing private residents in the state to file suits against gun manufacturers who violate the state’s “assault weapons” ban or ban on gun sales to anyone under 21.
The Los Angeles Times reported that supporters of the new law view the lawsuit option as a way of “enlisting an army of grass-roots enforcers” to safeguard the state’s “assault weapons” ban and minimum age requirement.
SB 1327 was passed in reaction to the Texas heartbeat law, which allows abortionists to be sued for terminating pregnancies beyond six weeks of pregnancy.

Democrats claimed the Inflation Reduction Act would help ordinary Americans, but new analysis suggests people making less than $400,000 a year could end up paying $20 billion of the new tax revenue it brings in.
President Joe Biden signed the act into law in August, injecting $473 billion of new spending on climate and healthcare, yet there are strong concerns it will do little to reduce inflation.
In fact, middle class Americans will pay new taxes - directly contradicting Biden's promise to not raise penalties on people earning under $400,000.
Republicans continue to criticize the bill, claiming it will lead to taxes on ordinary Americans and do little to help reduce soaring costs.

The situation in Buffalo, NY, continues to break down. Power has been out for days as thousands of people remain snowed in as a result of a so-called “bomb cyclone” that brought freezing temperatures and precipitation. Buffalo was hit especially hard compared to other regions in the Northeast due to the effect of bordering Lake Erie.
Not everyone remains snowed in, though. Some have extricated themselves from their homes just in time to start looting. Videos of people ransacking businesses began to surface on Christmas Day. I’ve seen some suggest that this is acceptable because they are just stealing necessities. Yeah, well except they aren’t just stealing necessities,

In simple terms, “replacement theory” holds that welcoming immigration policies are part of a plan designed to undermine or “replace” the political power of conservatives in the U.S. Make no mistake: replacement theory is real — and the Democrat Party blatantly continues to embrace it at the southern border.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson has in the past been all but burned at the stake by the rabid left for daring to discuss replacement theory on his program, including by Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which laughably describes itself as an “anti-hate” group, went after Carlson in early 2021:

We reported earlier on the monstrosity of the $1.7 trillion Omnibus Bill that the Democrats are trying to shove through Congress. It’s giving Joe Biden and the Democrats everything they want without holding them to anything, including things like securing the border. This spending, coming at a time when we’re already dealing with crushing inflation because of overspending, is madness. The bill just dropped and is more than 4000 pages long. [snip] claiming that money for Ukraine is part of the number one priority for the United States just infuriated people,
