Here are the tentative agreements and offers that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has made, and others under discussion, as he aims to woo the 20 Republicans voting against him for Speaker.  Thirteen of those 20 Republicans backed McCarthy in Friday’s vote, edging him closer to the Speakership.   Several said their votes were pending negotiations.   What McCarthy has offered  Motion to vacate: McCarthy has offered to lower the threshold to bring up a move to force a vote on ousting the House Speaker down to just one member, a change from a threshold of five members that was revealed

Comments:

The article contains a concise list which leaves one wondering, why would McCarthy hold out against such proposals for so long? These are common sense proposals and we should be thankful to the few who held his feet to the fire.

The Republican political class members are elitists. Power is to be concentrated, pay to play, without the consent of the governed. Us and them. This time, the thems won. She who identified crony capitalism was scorned, silenced and mocked. And right.

Initially I was opposed to the five members who threw a wrench into McCarthy’s coronation. I was wrong. Gaetz, Biggs, and the others who joined the five were absolutely correct to demand concessions from McCarthy. Good for them. I wish McCarthy well and hope this fight stiffened his spine. I’m not as negative and defeatist as many posters here. Life is too short for that.

I hope Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell's egos were taken down several notches. It is time they pay attention to the people who voted for them. Now we need to get Ronna McDaniel out. . .

Offerings and promises by politicians are worth about as much as one of Hunter Biden's paintings. Now that McCarthy has wormed his way into the position, we will shortly begin to see the California politician that resides inside that suit. Don't forget to act surprised.

Get ready to hear from McCarthy what we heard from Boehner in 2011 - "Well, we're only 1/2 of 1/3 of govt". "There isn't much we can do without the Senate." So, in Jan 2015 we gave the GOP the Senate and McConnell said it doesn't matter what we do Obama will just veto everything. We need the WH too. So, in Jan 2017 we gave the GOP full control of Congress and Trump in the WH. What did we get? A tax cut with an expiration date and nothing else. Meanwhile, both party's fought Trump tooth and nail while trying to throw him out of the WH. Paul Ryan sat on his thumbs and did nothing while McConnell made backroom deals with Schumer. Expect McCarthy to backstab his fellow conservatives in the House (especially Gaetz), and do his best to move the Marxist Dem agenda forward.

There are few here that were frustrated with the action of Gaetz and 'the rebels' time will prove they are right. Those in Congress, republicans, who scorned them are all RINOs. If we plan to support Trump the same suspects will show their non-support it's in the spineless republicans DNA. McCarthy is just another uniparty aisle crosser like the tan face drunkard and the twerp who lost a debate to Joe Biden. Time will tell is McCarthy is true to the conservatives, but I don't believe he is.

PHOENIX The U.S. government sued Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and the state Wednesday over the placement of shipping containers as a barrier on the border with Mexico, saying it is trespassing on federal lands. The complaint filed in U.S. District Court comes three weeks before the Republican governor steps aside for Democratic Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs, who has said she opposes the construction. Ducey told U.S. officials earlier this week that Arizona is ready to help remove the containers, which he says were placed as a temporary barrier. But he wants the U.S. government to say when it will fill any

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will no longer be Speaker of the House of Representatives — but she could nominate the next Speaker. In doing so, she could point the way toward the political accommodations so badly needed in a polarized America. (snip) The nominee would need to be a person who has earned the respect of both parties and demonstrated commitment to finding common ground among partisans, whenever possible. Such people exist. John Kasich, former governor of Ohio and erstwhile chairman of the House Budget Committee, and Paul Ryan, a former House Speaker and vice presidential candidate, would stand high

If Republican candidates do as well as expected on Tuesday, they can credit the new, widespread, and coordinated effort to begin securing U.S. elections, helping give candidates the best opportunity possible to win a fair fight in the new voting environment of mail-in balloting. The Republican National Committee, other party entities, and dozens of public interest election nonprofit groups built over the last two years a multimillion-dollar election integrity infrastructure that passed laws improving voter ID and other election security measures, defended those laws from legal attacks by Democrats, and sued states and localities that failed to follow the law.

Here is a question for Republicans to consider before next week’s midterm elections: How far does former President Donald Trump have to go before the GOP kicks him out of the party? Put another way, will the Republican Party save itself before it has completely lost its soul? It has been equally disappointing to see so many Americans buy Trump’s “big lie” about the 2020 election. (snip) Trump continues corrupting the party of Lincoln

We live in an era of stark political division, but there's at least one aspect of politics both sides agree on: a maximum age limit for elected officials. Most feel that after a certain age they should not be permitted to hold office. There isn't just agreement across political lines, but across demographic groups, like age, too. Young and old, including seniors, favor maximum age limits for elected officials. Mr McCarthy's party had taken control of the House – the US lower chamber – following the midterm elections in the autumn, with a slim 222-212 majority.
