The owner of a Philadelphia gas station recently reported hiring a security team armed with AR-15s, and shotguns and decked out in Kevlar vests as he fights to combat the city's ongoing crime crisis.
Neil Patel, who oversees a Karco gas station in North Philadelphia, said he hired state S.I.T.E. agents to protect his employees and customers after several recent incidents during which his store was ransacked.
Patel told a local Fox outlet that criminals are 'forcing us to hire the security, high-level security, state-level.'
'We are tired of this nonsense; robbery, drug trafficking, hanging around, gangs,' he added.

Governments #1 job is to protect the citizens. THAT is why we pay taxes. If they do not then do not complain when citizens take matters into their own hands. Citizens should DIE because govt now wants to protect and coddle CRIMIINALS? THAT will not work. Notice the govt has security to protect them. THEY do not want criminals to harm them just us. The ones who pay their salary. While they leave US vulnerable.

How could a businessman even stay open with such losses? The cost of everything is too high to start with. Then you add in the expense of feral animals tearing the place up and stealing whatever they want without fear or conscience. You reduce that cost with the security company, but they need to be paid. The only way to win is to get out of places like that and start over in a civilized place.

This will not end well for someone, to whom I have no idea (owner? guard? or perp?).

From the article: "The steady stream of violent episodes prompted the Democratic city leader Jim Kenney to call an emergency meeting behind closed doors with city officials to discuss ways to reduce the violence in September."
These words were underneath the picture of Jim Kenney. Sounds like the gas station owner knew what to do. Government people have to meet because they are scratching their heads or behinds wondering which way to go? Says a lot about the state of government these days. . .

Remember stopping for gas in North Philadelphia years ag because I was running low.. Gave the man (don't ask ethnicity) behind the glass a $20 bill - it was enough in those days. He calmly looked at me and said "That will be twenty" I said "I just gave you one". He replied "No you didn't". With wife and kids in the car I simply handed over another bill and walked away. I have never returned to the area. This could be any Democrat run city. perhaps the entire US soon.

Wont work. Let one of the guards hurt one of these feral animals and see what happens to both him, and the store owner who hired him.
The only way out is to go somewhere else to do business, old timey "white flight" that we have heard so much about and dim-0s dont seem to comprehend WHY it happens, and claim that whites dont want to be around these animals because we are racists.

What do you expect. This is a city whose citizens voted to put a braindead imbecile in the Senate and also to defund their police. Just like all of our major cities run by democrats citizens are in danger because criminals are running amok with hardly any pushback. It's a shame that store owners have to result to other protective measures of their lives and property but that's where we are.

Eventually the station owner will probably find the cost of armed guards is just too much, and he will shut down. Then we'll hear cries of 'gas station deserts' in Philly.

Since in many places police don't do much to even reduce crime, let alone squelch it, armed private security or personal armed defense is the only remaining way.
How much longer will self defense be legal even in the narrowest sense?
In Europe, and I believe in Australia and New Zealand, armed self defense is pretty much entirely illegal.

Something seems amiss about the headline and story. AR-15s?! Seems like AKs would be a better choice. Bigger round and more stopping power. Are these experienced security persons?

I was born and raised in Philadelphia with relatives still living there. I won't return to the city as it is a deadly cesspool infested with violent, feral vermin. Bring in the exterminators.

I expect he won't be allowed to have armed guards for long. The city will find a reason to stop him. When they do, they'll swoop in and arrest him and the guards.

He will probably be forced out of business. How can anyone afford to have a business there. Leave the state to uncle Fester and the dead guy who was elected.

The photos do not show that the security guards are armed with AR-15 rifles. Actually they are armed with some other type rifles. To the liberal media any rifle that is black in color is deemed to be an AR-15 style rifle or assault weapon.

First photo of armed guard is definitely not an AR-15. Second photo is clearly a pistol caliber carbine and is most likely an AR style platform.

Does it bother anyone else that the State of Pennsylvania apparently has forces of armed agents that people can hire to protect their businesses, to do what the police, local and state won't do?
