‘We have no protection’: Portland

A Portland raincoat shop owner has permanently shuttered her store because of all the incessant crime in the far-left utopia. Moreover, Marcy Landolfo has shuttered her Rains PDX shop in the most conspicuous way possible — with a large note on the store’s front door. “Rains PDX was a locally-owned small business. But, due to the constant, and unrelenting, criminal behavior, coupled with escalating safety issues for our employees, we have decided to permanently close,” the note reads. “Our city is in peril. Small businesses (and large) cannot sustain doing business, in our city’s current state. We have no protection, or recourse, against the criminal behavior that goes unpunished.

I have a couple of independent hotel customers in Portland. Both have had minor damage (spray paint, broken small windows) but have to deal with low occupancy because business and leisure traffic to Portland has fallen due to COVID and the local problems. Plus, it's hard to find workers willing to travel into downtown or work night shifts. Let's Go Brandon!

I cannot imagine living under such conditions and not responding with overwhelming violence. If the crooks can get away with pretty much any crime, why cant the business owners get away with defending their businesses? No law is no law, right? Didn't San Francisco institute private vigilance committees in the 1800's to combat just this kind of thing? Relying on the government or the police is often a bad idea.

In what I suspect is a spate of misinformed zealotry, Apple has threatened to remove the Twitter app from its App Store. At least, according to Twitter CEO Elon Musk. This is all part of the effort by left-wing zealots to “punish” Twitter for proposing to end censorship based on political leanings. Mr. Musk said that, if pressed, he would launch his own line of phones in response. Should Apple CEO Tim Cook take such a threat seriously, or can he laugh it off? I think he’d best take it very seriously.

The Georgia runoff election is now just a little over a week away, yet the White House is still mum on whether President Joe Biden's plans to campaign for Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) against his Republican opponent, Herschel Walker.  During Monday's White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had been asked by a reporter if there were "any plans for the president to go to Georgia in the final days of the Senate runoff." Again, that election is just eight days away, so it is indeed "the final days."

The damage that has been done to children by the “woke” left’s crusade to promote transgenderism is viewed by many as a national shame although critics of the sexualization of young kids as well as sexually mutilating “gender affirming” surgery are shut down by national political leaders and the media who smear them as bigots, but the tide against perceived perversion will eventually turn regardless of the ferociousness of its defenders. One who dares to speak out is former Democrat congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who since breaking with her party hasn’t shied away from calling out its historic abuses, and she laid out who is responsible for the plague of degeneracy

Georgia GOP Senate nominee Herschel Walker is hoping the state's most influential Republican can help him eke out a win in his runoff against Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock. In a new ad released Monday, Gov. Brian Kemp is shown at a Walker rally telling the audience he has "never been more optimistic about the future of our state" and implores Georgians to vote for Walker on Election Day. Kemp, who won reelection earlier this month against Stacey Abrams, tells voters that they "cannot rest on our laurels." "You're going to decide who our senator is. This is going to be a turnout election," he says.
