The US soccer federation displayed Iran's national flag on social media without the emblem of the Islamic Republic, saying the move supports protesters in Iran ahead of the two nations' World Cup match Tuesday.
Iran's government reacted by accusing America of removing the name of God from their national flag and called for FIFA to kick the USA out of the World Cup with a 10-game ban from soccer. Tasmin news agency - associated closely with the Iranian regime - says Iran's soccer federation will make the request to FIFA, soccer's governing body.
The symbol was later returned to the flag on the USA's website but

Ayatollah Hominy ... you know right where you can shove that, and I hope when it goes down it's got razor edges. "Them hominy grits," as was said in My Cousin Vinny.

Maybe FIFA ought to kick Iran out of the World Cup for murdering a young woman because she had too many hairs exposed?

Much as I hate Moslems and all their barbaric ways, I hate our own weirdo activists even more. These people go out of their way to insult and demean everything that is good in our culture without penalty, then they go over there and think they can get away with the same thing. I hope they get buried up to their necks and stoned to death, one at a time so they can all watch.

The stupid Iranian Govt wants us out? Thr very brave Iranian soccer players did not sing their own national anthem and several of them had their thumbs down in protest of the govt. That barbaric government arrested one of their teammates a few days before the World Cup started.
I am an American who likes soccer, college football and local hockey.

The US Soccer Federation has politicized just about everything during this World Cup. They seem more concerned with being Social Justice Warriors and proving their Wokeness than playing and winning high caliber soccer. From the LGBTQ flag arm patches (instead of US flag) to no the incorrect Iranian flag, shows that they care more about being loved for being PC than wining.

it is the "ugly American" syndrome
I happen to believe the Iranian government is detestable and wish their people would overthrow it .
But these are games and the US Soccer federation has no right to speak for the nation.
I also don't believe the lbxyz++#& patches are appropriate for the same reason and couldn't care less if the US wins a game. I thought the left was anti-nationalism (aka fascism)

They put gay ahead of the USA on their own logo and then mock their opponents by modifying Iranian flag. Who runs woke US Soccer? Get the politics out of sports and sports will be better for it.

It's amazing how regular Main Street Americans, Iranians, Russians and Chinese seem to have one thing in common; hatred of our political "leadership."

IMHO, Adding the symbol is tantamount to smearing the Flag with feces, so I'm ok with adding back the symbol!

Playing politics in sports, now who would do that? The NFL and the NBA lost a huge chunk of their income in the last few years and they didn't learn from that, how could the sports world not think that the ayatollahs would not be apoplectic over this insult? They might even threaten to nuke us for the 47,385th time.

Iran has been a thorn in our side since the 70s. They're also a state sponsor of terrorism and have given funds to such groups as ISIS, Hezbollah, Hamas and Boko Haram. I'm not a soccer fan but I hope that we mop the floor with the Iranians bigly.

I really don't care what country huffs and puffs about symbols...soccer is a sport where the best wins...or so WE'd like to believe...so let the games alone...I'm so sick to death of false narratives being forced on the viewers...so stand up....wear whatever ribbons you want...salute whatever flag you want...just play the game and good luck with your endeavors...

The rest of the world doesn't have as many pro sports or even college sports to attend or watch as we do in the U.S. All they really have is soccer and it's a low scoring dull sport that fans have to get drunk in order to enjoy it.

Soccer is boring to watch. In America millions play the game until they grow up, then leave it behind. There were aerial views of the Coliseum during the USC-Notre Dame with 75 thousand people in the stands. But, right next to the Coliseum is a tiny amphitheater for soccer that struggles with attendance even in a championship season. Last summer saw Arsenal play in London...yawn zzzzzzzzz.
